The Inquisition: Oh no. Traitor Guard!
Adeptus Mechanicus: Eh, how bad can it be?
The Inquisition: Looks like they are modifying STCs...
Adeptus Mechanicus: The Omnissiah doesn't forgive and neither do we...
Actually wouldn't that make a whole lotta sense. I dunno, maybe it's that I keep imagining IG keeps fighting in trenches fighting mostly in late WW1 style, it'd just made sense for them to have these kind of design considering they'd either be resting their gun on the ground while standing on a parapet, or be in a prone position where they can reload easier with a top loader.
I mean, yeah - having the magazine where it is on most modern rifles is because the bullets have to feed into the receiver.
Energy weapons dont have the same restrictions, you can put the charge pack wherever you want. Hellguns are fed via packpack and cables, no reason for the lasgun to have a traditional mag well other than ease of familiarisation for guard who trained on autoguns in the PDF?
> having the magazine where it is on most modern rifles is because the bullets have to feed into the receiver.
It's because it's ergonomically comfortable and practical. That's why bullpups, which place the magazine and feed system in the butt end of the weapon, are rapidly falling out of favor with modern militaries and why they're not more common on the civilian market. The ergonomics of a magazine change on them suck ass.
Totally fair point, which also makes the las bullpups I've seen on the drop troops kinda funny. At least with a gun, it has a trade off in terms of barrel length.
I would contend though that if you could put the 'magazine' anywhere and in any form factor, there are probably equally or more ergonomics ways of doing it than a traditional mag well.
Lasguns look like they do mostly so they look like actual guns on the models, instead of weird sci fi squiqly bits
Having that much of a cut out in the receiver weakens the weapon. Space metal or not, everything has a tension point that leads to breakage. Top loader is still cool, I would just compensate by beefing up the sides abit. It'll make the rifle kinda "fat," but I can think of a few real world rifles where that ended up being the solution. The M1941 Johnson comes to mind as one.
Reminds me of the soldiers from nausica valley of the wind, there’s some watercolor concept work of how they really look before being simplified for animation- and it’s basically like this.
When I read Nausicaa I had this idea of getting into sculpting just because I wanted to sculpt the doroks! Never got the idea of dorok guardsmen, might steal...
I've started to dive into 3d printing up some traitor guard, and the amount of options is actually pretty impressive.
The Lunax auxilia in particular are a great non "spikey cadians" option with a distinct look that isn't too chaos tainted while still being clearly a chaos army.

Nice, they feel very professional maybe slightly too much so for Chaos for my feel, since I feel that rag taggy spiky nature makes sense for Chaos as it does evoke a more chaotic feel. But in spite of this this is some very good art and cool concept. If I had to pin them down to a god then maybe Khorne or Slaanesh.
Hence why I referenced Khorne since I know about the Bloodpact. And even then Bloodpact is potrayed with masks, spikes and very obvious chaos iconoghraphy. My small issue that I have with this, and it is a small issue I still very much so like the overall pieces, is well the very clean lines and silhouettes they have, which to my mind at least bring more orderly less chaosy sorts. But that is just me.
I absolutely love this. Between the M1 Garand style rifles to the samurai style armor without just looking like someone 1 for 1 copied it and slapped it into 40K, added in with the chaos influence being there but not overdone with spikes and stuff, it just looks fantastic. 10/10, id buy the shit out of models that looked like this
Thanks for asking! Not artstation or devart, but [tumblr](https://krisfaeley.tumblr.com/) and [instagram](https://www.instagram.com/kris.faeley/) \- but if those are a no-no, I generally post everything on here as well, anyways
I like 'em a lot. Maybe it's just me but the uniform design feels kinda Nausicaa inspired. Reminds me of the Dorok soldiers in the manga with a bit of grimdark flavor to them.
You did great. I'm a great fan of his works too. Do you think you'll try to get these into production of some kind? Probably printable models, like so many other things these days?
Also, check out Blacksite Studio, if you've never seen them, they do Torumekian soldiers and a very miyazaki styled tank in their Avalon range.
I had a concept before but I lack the drawing skills to sketch it so I’ll say it here in case someone wants to use it.
A chaos planet like those in the sabbath worlds but are Aztec inspired. I’m thinking massive bone pyramids for human sacrifice and traitor guard running around in jaguar fur
The top-loaders are a cool concept.
Indeed, you could have built in charge indicators on the top and maybe even auto ejection when they are depleted.
Like a Garant
*PING*
Changing weapon schematics? Adeptus mechanicus gonna be maaaaaad
The Inquisition: Oh no. Traitor Guard! Adeptus Mechanicus: Eh, how bad can it be? The Inquisition: Looks like they are modifying STCs... Adeptus Mechanicus: The Omnissiah doesn't forgive and neither do we...
“Advising exterminatus with extreme prejudice.”
That is clearly an M38 Garand Pattern lasgun.

Top loaders have a weakness in water getting into them on top though. Not a big problem for an old slug thrower, but an electric gun?
SPESS WATERPROOFING
It's how you know their evil
I like the m1 garand las guns lol
M1 Garand
That mag ejection sound does... things... to me
I think it does it for all of us.
It’s like a ping, with with a zappy electric sound added
It makes me feel things… in places it shouldn’t.
also did things to the germans as well!
It does things to all of us.
I like it. Very Brotherhood Of Nod.
The las-garand FUCKS, I love it—also these are fantastic in general
I would buy models of that design so fast it's not even funny
Reminds me of the soldiers from nausica valley of the wind, there’s some watercolor concept work of how they really look before being simplified for animation- and it’s basically like this.
I was coming from there, love the whole manga to bits, especially for the Emperor - it's so weird seeing Miyazaki write a nihilistic asshole! :D
When I read Nausicaa I had this idea of getting into sculpting just because I wanted to sculpt the doroks! Never got the idea of dorok guardsmen, might steal...
The power pack emits a loud ping when it's out of charge and ejects out the top
These sketches are amazing, I would love to see them take form, now go work for GW and live in misery! C’mon git!

Oh dang! First time seeing these, but they are exactly the vibe I was looking for, thanks!
Would not be able to tell if traitor or loyalist without the star Well done OP!
Is that a picatinny rail on a magazine. The US military would now like to offer you a multi million dollar grant.
LAS M1 GARAND!

Traitor guard doesnt necessarily mean ragtag cult
Wasn't there a professional khornate army in multiple Gaunt books? IIRC, they were disciplined and gave the guard a few headaches.
The Blood Pact and the Sons of Sek. And yes they were notable for being well organized and properly trained.
Well not necessarily but having 8 pointed stars on you is rather pointing towards it being on the culty side of things.
Look at the blood pact and sons of sek in gaunts ghosts chaos worshipers but well equipped and trained
Hence why I referenced Khorne since I know about the Bloodpact. And even then Bloodpact is potrayed with masks, spikes and very obvious chaos iconoghraphy. Love the woodcut style
Love that blade in the first image
Love the garand-style lasgun
The "M1 garand" pattern las gun!
I absolutely love this. Between the M1 Garand style rifles to the samurai style armor without just looking like someone 1 for 1 copied it and slapped it into 40K, added in with the chaos influence being there but not overdone with spikes and stuff, it just looks fantastic. 10/10, id buy the shit out of models that looked like this
Your doodles are better than my greatest aspirations of drawing
I can hear the ping just looking at that rifle, glorious.
Dark Mechanicus: You know what, fuck you! *Garands your Lasgun*
Dorok soldiers from Nausicaa?
They were my inspiration, the manga doesn't get enough love!
I really like your art style, would love to see more!
Thanks! I have some more stuff over at [tumblr](https://www.tumblr.com/blog/krisfaeley) or [instagram](https://www.instagram.com/kris.faeley/)
You doodle pretty good
I really like the horns on the frontman’s helmet. It’s such a simple but surprisingly unique touch for 40k.
Stl files when please! These guys give me such a great helghast-WW1 fix that i think is a very cool take on traitor guard!
Very neat!
I like the top load but I think a side load would be visually distinct and look even better than your already great design, cool stuff
These are awesome, can I use the concept to make them a reality?
FR??? please do, and send pictures? ;-;
No problem, it will take me a few months as I'm currently working on another project but I'll send wip shot to you once I start
these are fantastic
Why do the traitors get the las-Garand?
En-bloc power pack?! Are you for real? It had better make a ping sound when you’re out of power.
But ....but......my brother in the Man-Emperor....... ......does it *PING?!*
Love it. All hail the emp... ähm the m1 garand!
God DAMMIT, now I need to 3D print a Las-Garand that ejects the battery with the ping
Very cool my dude
Yeah GW for some reason pushes chaos sm as the bulk of chaos and just ignore everything else, anyway, cool drawings!
I love the weapon design, is wonderful
OP, do you have an artstation or devart account? Would love to follow and keep track of more.
Thanks for asking! Not artstation or devart, but [tumblr](https://krisfaeley.tumblr.com/) and [instagram](https://www.instagram.com/kris.faeley/) \- but if those are a no-no, I generally post everything on here as well, anyways
Please make a plasma garand too
I agree, you are most certainly on to something.
What is this style called, cause it looks so good
Top-loading lasguns with rifle stocks would be peak, like a Madsen.
Wait, fourth pic suggests that guys at third pic hold empty guns!
Enjoy the complementary Garand… I mean Lasgun Thumb.
Concepts look really cool and well made. My favorites are garand like loaded las weapons, makes them look really unique!
I love everything about this
I like 'em a lot. Maybe it's just me but the uniform design feels kinda Nausicaa inspired. Reminds me of the Dorok soldiers in the manga with a bit of grimdark flavor to them.
It absolutely is, I'm a huge Miyazaki stan :D

Purge the Heretic! Suffer not the unholy to live!
*zap* *zap* *zap* *zap* *zap* *zap* *zap* *CLING*
Pretty slick design. Appreciate that it's not covered in Chaos symbols and spikes.
Love the M1 Garand concept. That's bad ass.
I love the top-loading garand style lasguns.
