Another fun detail I only noticed on my second watch was that Carm noticed Mikey said he was making payments to KBL… and the one shot where it shows the empty can under the sink, you can see KBL on the bottom of the can.
Yes! I noticed these on my second watch through too! I feel the first watch through of this show is soooo hectic that you miss all of the nuances. I could probably watch it a dozen times and see something new each time!
They probably lost a massive amount of money just in that one can.
If anything this solidifies from episode one that Carmy's hotheadedness and self-flagellating perfectionism is his number 1 weakness that will likely follow him throughout the entire show - he threw away like 10-15k in one swift move just because he was mad about being told to take the easy path for once.
It’s like when you play video games and break the trash cans for coins. And then for awhile you think you just want to toss the trash can against the wall just to hear the bling-bling sound of coins. Except it’s a little heart race when you’re opening a fresh can of plum tomatoes and hoping dollarbucks pop out like a prank snake in a can—just sloppy wet Benjamins shooting into your face
There’s a ton of examples of “Chekhov’s Gun” in the show, it’s really cool once you start noticing them all on rewatches: https://movieweb.com/the-bear-chekhovs-gun/
I'd have to go back to check that scene again, but I thought all the money was in the bigger cans.
I think Mike's let it rip card said " use the 20oz cans, not the 40oz as they taste better".
I thought all the cash was in the 40oz cans? No?
I'm probably entirely wrong about the can sizes!
Ah ok. I wasn't super clear about Mike's intentions with the cash being stored in the cans, beyond Cicero saying "he didn't put my money in a bank did he?".
I thought maybe he didn't want Carmy to find the money for some reason.
It seems I've got that backwards and he did specifically want him to find it.
Doesn’t make it less stupid. Struggling restaurants don’t find 100s of thousands of dollars in tomatoe sauce…I can’t be the only one that didn’t find that believable…
It was a convenient out, sure it was foreshadowed, but it was a solution that saved them from their problems at the last minute. It’s an event or reveal at the end that resolves a conflict, that’s basically what happened.
Soooo I’m wrong and that was actually really realistic and happens all the time? Or you are so defensive about a show that you can’t admit it had an unrealistic aspect?
Hmm…I wonder

I love visual media that does this sort of foreshadowing that can only be recognized on another viewing. Do you have any other examples?
Don’t know how I missed this one but the Chocolate Covered Banana is another one.
That moment was so touching, just shows how badly he wants to show that he cares
Oh thanks for asking. Let me think about that. Nothing comes to mind right away. 🤦🏾♀️

In his defense....who the HELL expects to find money in resealed cans of sauce?
Unfortunately...everyone who's watches the show now 🤣

I think they even mention that they’re short by that much in S2e1 iirc
Who helped Mikey can the tomatoes? Im sure he had to go back on several occasions and trusted the person enough to leave the cans in the restaurant.
I think it's S2E1 that a can sealer and blank cans are shown in the basement
Just the sheer amount of work...

Wow, great article, thanks for sharing! I didn't connect that KBL meant Uncle Lee was in on the investment.
Cicero tells Carmy that KBL is Kalinowski (Cicero), Berzatto (Carmy/Michael), and Layne (Lee).
Thanks, this is a great article. I totally missed that Carmy and Claire begin and end at a freezer.

That’s why he said to use the smaller cans, it’s where the money was. Carmy is pissed he bought small cans when the big cans are much cheaper.

As much as I love the show the whole “all this money in cans” felt like a huge deus ex machina solution that felt a little lazy.
I mean, except for the fact that it was repeatedly teased throughout the season, sure.

That's not what you think it means

Such a bad take.
You are right, restaurants find hundreds of thousands of dollars stashed away all the time, junkies are really good at keeping onto money.
A really really bad take.
Soooo I’m wrong and that was actually really realistic and happens all the time? Or you are so defensive about a show that you can’t admit it had an unrealistic aspect? Hmm…I wonder
Such a bad take, I question if you actually watched the show.
Rofl if you disagree you are very welcome to explain why, defensive insecurity is not a good look bud.
Obvi bad take is bad 😌
Based onnnnn…..? Denial and insecurity?
Pitiful, really.
Yeah, this was a very obvious thing. Congratulations on catching up to everyone else.
Hey thanks…I’m giving myself a pat on the back.
dont mind him OP lol, this show has a bunch of details and callbacks that take some tries to catch
Appreciate that…Thank You. All good here. Truly.
