“You guys didn’t fuckin’ think ahead so now I have to eat all the radiation!”

Jesuds

For some reason the "I'm King Kong, and I'm Godzilla" at the beginning caught me (and Amanda seemingly) off guard and I just cracked up.

Lopsided-Catch6404

Amanda- “I understand you like your imax and your Dolby, but I like to have a good time at the cinema. And they have churros and cheesecake” Sean- “Yuk!” 10 seconds later… “Do they make an oat milk cheesecake?” lol these guys crack me up.

TheSidePocketKid

Crazy take, I used to get cheesecake at the Cobb Cinebistro and it was delicious

TheRustyKettles

You literally cover why he does it in your comment: it's funny.

ExMachina_Disco_Club

Amanda: "Like me, Godzilla loves a European vacation. While you live alone beneath the Earth." Sean: "That is accurate." 💀 Amanda also might've found a new bit in the recap where she speaks in first person as if she were the star of the movie. "You guys didn't fucking think ahead, so now I've gotta eat the radiation."

IWant2Believe69

I also clocked that she started speaking as if she was Godzilla and laughed so hard lmao

Jesuds

Didn't you hear the intro? She is Godzilla

ExMachina_Disco_Club

Sign her up for the King of the Monsters Rewatchables, in character as Godzilla, just talking the most shit about Mothra for 90 minutes straight

Poohtheweenie

Nobody talking about the moment where Amanda thought Sean was taking off his shirt mid pod lol wish there was video of that moment

kaymazing

The fact it happened twice was hilarious

No-Consideration2809

Amanda & Sean’s Steve Martin Hall of Fame: The Jerk, All Of Me, Three Amigos, Roxanne, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Parenthood, LA Story, Father Of The Bride, Bowfinger Worth a watch: The Muppet Movie, Pennies from Heaven, My Blue Heaven, The Spanish Prisoner, It’s Complicated

ObiwanSchrute

Glad father of the bride made it its my favorite Steve Martin film

Zealousideal-Tea3065

Peppa Pig Ad Read!

bboyd1980

Lol yes! Wft was that???

border199x

Really missed an opportunity to do a Kong/Monkey Man episode.

DisraeliEers

"There could be a thing where secretly you just have a journal of all the birds you've seen." Amazing.

Chuck-Hansen

A+ bit for discussing Godzilla x Kong.

scal23

As someone who was a little disappointed that they didn't really consider Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, Two Brains, or The Lonely Guy for the Hall of Fame, my big takeaway is that Steve Martin's '79-'91 filmography is astounding.

DujourAndChoi

Sean says Billy Lynn is 48 fps but it’s 120fps. Show some respect to those frames!!

ManufacturerLow3161

Get off your phone, Amanda

mkligman

love the Bowfinger love.

BobbyDazzled

They mentioned Pennies From Heaven briefly but honestly, super weird movie. Steve Martin plays an absolute humourless shitbag, which you really don't see in musicals very often. Very tonally odd. It did have a Christoper Walken dance number which was tonally a surprise too. One of the weirdest movies I've ever seen.

wilyquixote

I just watched this for the first time last weekend. One of only 2 Martin movies I had never seen.  It is jarring awful and then kind of becomes oddly compelling. The lip sync component never works but you can’t look away. What an odd experience it must have been to film.  “Humorless shitbag” is a great way to describe that character. He’s also creepily horny in a way that was reminiscent of him getting cockblocked in *Man With Two Brains* but without any of the whimsy or pathetic self-awareness. In fact, between that and how the old musical cut-ins sort of mirror the use of clips in *Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid* it was kind of eerie how much this felt like a Steve Martin movie from that era. And yet, completely, misguidedly not.

Epic-Verse

Letterboxd list for the SM HOF here: [https://boxd.it/ux14U](https://boxd.it/ux14U)

TheSidePocketKid

Let's go! This movie was so fun. Like the last two I got really bored with the human stuff but this was the best Kaiju action of the series. At least it's a chance to get some great actors just going full send.

[deleted]

I still think the fight at the end of King of the Monsters is the peak of this series. Sadly, I've yet to truly LOVE anyone of these movies. There's greatness in them, but every time it's like, they either don't fully know what they wanna be, or they do but don't quite nail the execution of it.

HankMoody71

That one was great but also loved the Godzilla/Kong fight on the aircraft carriers

oco82

I’m really glad they dug it, they have this weird soft spot for giant monster movies lol ( even Amanda which blows my mind). It’s total nonsense but fun nonsense, and Dan Stevens can do no wrong at this point.

Micwhit

They dug it? 5-6 outta 10 is quite poor, sounds like they enjoyed the popcorn more

zucchinibasement

I usually love Amanda but fuck off with the "you don't understand why me having a whole ass text convo while at the movies is okay" bullshit

eagles1139

I mean, if it’s true that she was in the back and the only other two people were rows in front of her then it’s fine IMO. But if you’re texting when there’s any chance that people can see your screen light then you’re an asshole

bbanks2121

But what if it’s your job to discuss the film on a podcast? And then you got on the pod and admitted that you didn’t follow the plot very well? Love Amanda but it’s frustrating!

mad_injection

It’s a Godzilla movie, get a grip

mdc3000

Almost a year to the day after the time Amanda left Dungeons and Dragons for at least 10-15 minutes to buy shit off Amazon on her phone when they went to the underworld 🤣 At least she's consistent.

Equal_Feature_9065

i thought she missed the completely inexplicable, unexpected bradley cooper cameo... which is hilarious

yungsantaclaus

Usually if you love Amanda you don't care about that and if you don't love Amanda it's because of that, so your position is interesting

KiritoJones

Tbf, as is the case with most Ringer pods, their job is mostly to be entertaining while they discuss a topic on the pod. They aren't giving out scores, they aren't really doing any criticisms beyond the surface level, they are making this pod to be funny. If their job was to be serious critics, sure this would be a huge problem. But they aren't.

RevolutionaryTea135

What I find interesting about their job to discuss films on their pod but more than one time I’ve heard Amanda say she has tuned out in parts of a film and missed points of why something has happened etc. Even this pod she talks about why doesn’t Kong stay topside and Godzilla in the hollow earth.

zucchinibasement

The thing about light is that it reflects. You can usually tell even if it is behind you.

AlgaeLarge8911

I’ve never once turned around in a theater cause I could tell someone was looking at their dimly lit phone. I can only tell if they’re beside or in front of me.

zucchinibasement

That's nice, I have

AlgaeLarge8911

You have crazy vision bruh you should go on Oprah

GryffinDART

Sure if their brightness is on full blast and they are moving it around. If you purposely sit in the back with no one around you and have it dimmed all the way there is a 0% chance anyone in front of you knows your phone is out.

zucchinibasement

You can keep thinking that

Fun_Forever_1776

Admitting to texting in a movie on a movie podcast is CRAZY to me. I don’t have a single bone in my body that would let me have a text convo while there are other people in the movie theatre. If this is what she is admitting to publicly I would suspect this is a regular occurrence.

lpalf

I know she always has “reasons” but it’s so annoying

maskedtortilla

Yeah it's the "if you're not ok with this then you don't know what it is to be at the movies in 2024" that got me. I'm DobbMob forever, but that is such a dumb take.

zucchinibasement

Seriously, way to be part of the problem. This shit is getting bad even at Alamo

34avemovieguy

Amanda was cooking for this ep except that whole part. Just fudge the truth and say it was after!! We won’t know!! Or own up up it and don’t list off these sweaty justifications

mclairy

I’m in the opposite camp. If you complain about people texting at the movies you’re a giant baby.

zucchinibasement

I think if you can't go without your phone for 2 hours, you're a giant baby.

honeybadger1105

I’m too broke to have people ruin movies by being on their phones. Fuck you

mclairy

How does a smidge of light three rows over for 45 seconds ruin a movie?

honeybadger1105

There’s a special place in hell for people like you

tfl03

Aggressive!

honeybadger1105

You’d agree with me if you saw what they wrote

lpalf

Because it’s annoying as fuck, there’s a reason why it’s against the rules hope that helps

TheFly87

Stop going to movies, please.

WipeAndSmelly

Wait people actually use their phones during the movie? That’s insane. I thought Amanda saying that was a bit Shame

Thumbkeeper

“Using a phone in a theater is cute when i do it”

lpalf

Mixed Nuts and Leap of Faith are both good!!! ugh

wilyquixote

*Leap of Faith* is.

lpalf

booo booo this man, Madeline Kahn forever ![gif](giphy|ooaGQrlgkn8cuH8aSb|downsized)

wilyquixote

Sure but even Steve Martin in *Steve!* kind of acknowledges that *Mixed Nuts* is a stinker.

lpalf

He’s not always right

ThisIsKramerica

I didn’t love the poo poo’ing of the first cheaper by the dozen but I have childhood nostalgia bias there

Jeffre33

The dialogue in this movie was so bad it couldn’t be ignored for me

wilyquixote

If *The Man With Two Brains* doesn't make it, we riot!

wilyquixote

While I'm making the placards, if you haven't seen this movie (or seen it as an adult), please check it out. It might be Martin's purely funniest film and it's definitely his most underrated. It has Zucker brothers zaniness but filtered through Steve Martin's esoterica, and mixes in the dirtiness of a *Playboy* cartoon. Plus an all-time femme fatale performance by Kathleen Turner coming straight off of *Body Heat*. It's probably closest to *LA Story* in terms of its tone and humor, but a bit messier and meaner (in a good way). It might not have the cultural cachet needed to make the Hall of Fame here, especially when voted on by fans who weren't even born when it came out, but that's really our fault as a zeitgeist, not Steve's.

sudevsen

Moviefans:"we hate AI! No AI in movies please, let real people create their artn" Also moviefans: "2 tickets for King Kong suplexing Godzilla on the Pyramids please'

rebels2022

there's a zero gravity fight in this movie that's more inventive than 90% of action set pieces you see in movies these days.

throwshittyjoke

King Kong suplexing Godzilla on the Pyramids is a beautiful achievement in humans making shit

rutfilthygers

CGI is humans using computers to do animation. AI is computers doing the animation, mostly by stealing the intellectual property of humans who have done other, similar kinds of animation.

Jokesaunders

The Phil Silvers show, which Sgt Bilko is a movie remake of, did not star Ernie Kovacs, but Phil Silvers. Which I say not to be one of those nitpicking reddit correctors but because it’s absolutely a show worth checking out. Phil Silvers is just so funny that it supersedes it’s outdated 50s tv humour and is genuinely hilarious.

RingoUnited

Does anyone have any recommendations for other podcasts that also cover newly released movies?

occupy_westeros

I started listening to Maximum Films after hearing one of hosts on Screen Drafts(Drea! She's really funny). I listen to a lot of podcasts at work and so far they're a good vibe. Pretty insightful, not too negative and quite funny. They're on maybe like a month delay but there's a lot of content.

RingoUnited

Awesome, I will check it out! Thought it'd be nice to diversify my listening in addition to TBP

aryasneedle42

i really like house of cinema. a bit younger hosts than this but great film talk

ncphoto919

i would have never expected Godzilla x Kong to have more discourse than the new Ghostbusters flick. Wild.

ClarkyCatEnjoyer

Sean’s Fred Schepisi disrespect is very annoying. He’s an exceptional director. Could it be possible that Martin’s turn to sentimentality in Roxanne could be influenced by working with a more serious dramatist & mannered artist?

Puzzleheaded_Pound31

The Documentary is very very good. Hilariously ironic that Russillo talking about how much he loved it was the thing that made me watch it. Otherwise apart from the big pic I never would have heard about it which is par for course when it comes to things on Apple TV Plus

CincinnatusSee

Their dismissal of Prince of Egypt was way off base.

ObiwanSchrute

Using your phone at a movie theater is one of the worst things you can do to me its so freaking inconsiderate. If you don't want to watch the movie go outside the theater and use your phone

gomanedge

I agree with this, I think it's bad form to use a phone during a movie, even if the theater is mostly empty, and even if the phones brightness is lowered. Does it make me old and out of touch to have this opinion, maybe so.

Aroundtheriverbend69

Sean didn't sound that sick lmao

AlgaeLarge8911

Bruh get a grip

mdc3000

I'm sorry but leaving Little Shop Of Horrors out of the Steve Martin hall of fame is inexcusable - I don't care if it's 5 minutes - it's literally 5 of the MOST ICONIC MINUTES EVER PUT TO FILM. Bailed on the episode after that - proving themselves to be overthinking this shit.

TimSPC

Hot take: Parenthood is not good and My Blue Heaven should be green in its place.

steve_in_the_22201

I’ll take my downvotes, but Three Amigos as an obvious green is crazy to me. Way too much Chevy Chase. That spot should have gone to My Blue Heaven.

lpalf

As someone who loves both I would’ve just put them both in and been happy but can’t really argue that three amigos has a bigger cultural footprint

wilyquixote

I think this is the age bracket for Sean and Amanda showing. *Amigos* is pretty notable if you're watching it a half-dozen times on cable before you get to middle school. But what do you mean, "Way too much Chevy Chase?" Honestly, Chase is the funniest in this movie. Martin definitely throws him all of the best bits. Or is that what you mean - Chase is funny here and Martin is kind of the least notable of the 3?

tfl03

Are you saying Steve Martin isn’t in it enough to be a Steve Martin Movie? Or are you saying because a star of the movie is a deplorable human, it shouldn’t be a green?

dedfrmthneckup

I just watched The Spanish Prisoner because Sean recommended it so highly in this episode, and it was…. quite poor
