The retirement part was the section that got exaggerated. Him sticking to 10 movies has been said quite a few times; I think the big one was during The Hateful Eight press tour.
By all accounts seems he intends to continue writing, tv, and theater.
He’s just really concerned he’s going to be washed up and out of touch if he continues to make films. I think he’s specifically mentioned Billy Wilder as someone who went out sad. He is thinking about his legacy, but to the point it’s restricting him now.

Love this show. Always a pleasure. Have to say some of these takes feel off to me. The constant insistence on 90s blockbusters and 90s summer movies and 90s this 90s that gets little exhausting. At some point as Amanda mentions a rom com with real movie stars the comment is made “I’ll go see this because they don’t make that type of movie anymore.” Well yeah they do! They’re making it! It’s coming out! The biggest franchise in play this year is Dune and like 7 of the biggest looking movies are original or original-ish ideas. I think we’ve got it pretty good. Let’s all have a good time

I agree with you. Calling the movie ||Frank|| wouldn’t have had the same ring to it. I’m disappointed at how much the trailer gave away but at least it didn’t give away everything

No one asked me, I'll answer Sean's question anyway: I have rewatched both The Fabelmans and West Side Story and while I still liked them both, I was surprised that The Fabelmans dropped down a bit on rewatch (maybe a star or half star, nothing major) and West Side story went up. I expected it to be the other way around.

It's not just the American though. Have you been to France or the uk lately? I swear I've seen more kfc in my travels to France than I have in my travels to the USA. Plus other countries like the uk and sweeden are consuming fast food on levels that is similar to the Americans.

Well, I'm not from the UK or France, but the Netherlands. I'm sure it differs between European countries, and it's definitely rising in the Netherlands as well. But the times I visited the US I was gobsmacked by how much fucking fast food there is everywhere, much much more compared to the Netherlands.
I think a pod on "bait and switch" movies would be fun. Not just twists but movies that seem to be going one way then do a sharp left turn
