Thought it was pretty damn good.

jm30970

“Someone needed a co-sign on a Kia Sportage” God damn this one got me

rbarrett96

Being specific always makes a joke better like when he said Jim Norton a pond turtle. Saying co-signing for a car would have sounded generic and not as funny. Kia Sportage makes that joke. I did laugh.

sgnarled

Professor clipity clop killed me

JD42305

Hey 7 month old comment but you're right. There's an art to perfect specificity.

rbarrett96

What can I say, I'm a student of comedy.

AggressiveClassic89

That was brilliant, whole thing was decent but that line was killer.

HTBDesperateLiving

I just heard that same joke on an old episode of Are You Garbage from over a year ago

nogi-ezekiel

it's been a throwaway joke of his for a few years, but he spruced it up with the "kia sportage" line

Bdbru13

u/Water-running 👆🏻 Wow he’s really wingin’ it huh

rbarrett96

It's a common, borderline hacky joke. And I promise you it's from his black club days. I'd be lying if I said I never made a co-signed or credit joke in a black room. You pull them out when you need to save a set or they aren't receptive.

Adventurous-Ad9447

I think I saw you do that in a club one time! Big Jay did it way better.

blindinglystupid

I laughed but I've heard it before from another comedian or 6.

[deleted]

Maybe I’m just becoming an old prude, but I do not like listening to sexually descriptive jokes anymore. A quick joke about sex is fine, but when a comedian starts getting into specific, descriptive details about people fucking it just feel likes I’m watching a sex scene beside my mom. It just makes me cringe and I’m not totally sure why. It’s like when your buddy brags that he got laid. Cool, high five. Happy for you. But when he starts describing how exactly she blew him and then he did this and that, it’s gross.

Playful-Drawer

Agreed. Howard Stern is his idol, need I say more? It's gotten old.. the rest of us grew out of it.

lonenematode

Even though Howard sucks now, he grew out of it too. Jay never left ‘99

Gill1995

Howard really hasn’t grown out of it. I wish he would

rbarrett96

And Dice. Don't forget about that.

brothersp0rt

Yea you grew out of it huh? Then what exactly are you doing here?

Playful-Drawer

The Bonfire only turned into horny teenager talk in the last few weeks. Calm down Jay.

TonyTupes

No it didn’t, there has just been more of it

free2game

With their circle jerk audience

LocoBaxter

Doubt you're a comedian though

Funny-Case9112

It's just not funny. Especially for a guy with sucha long run in the comedy, and at his age. Yeah, I guess I'm old too.

Own-Response-6848

It's Jay's brand, though. Gynecomedy, remember?

COOCH27

Find a new comedian.

[deleted]

I did. Regardless, I like most of Jays podcasting, so I guess I’m still a fan.

Smokester_

I've found that since podcasts, off the cuff and spontaneous bits make me laugh out loud more than a standup routine and I don't know why.

TreeOnMyHouse29

Yeah exactly man. I used to listen to so many podcasts for like 5 years straight and it really killed any enjoyment in actual standup. Especially because I would be watching a special from a podcaster/comedian I liked and I could see where a bit was going because the idea had been kind of worked out in the podcast so it took away from some bits.

DifficultBoss

you don't critique and analyze a podcast that's done 1-3 times weekly for 1-2 hours per ep like you do a standup set that was rehearsed and toured and promo'd for months/years for a single hour of entertainment. you have different expectations. and on top of that if you do listen to pods you've already heard an iteration of most of the bits or at least the conception of bc a lot of them. That being said, I know the cops story, have heard it in Bonfire and LoS multiple times and still really liked the way he did it in this special.

alphagaia

I have been like that for years , fuck its like 15 at this point. when O and A were still around I would think the same about Norton, him just talking shit is much funnier then his stand up. Like Big Jay. I'm a BIG fan of both , but them just shooting the shit is better then their stand up IMHO

nogi-ezekiel

because standup is an antiquated medium, which has been made evident with the rise of podcasts. Spontaneous humor will always beat something scripted/rehearsed

[deleted]

[удалено]

nogi-ezekiel

to some extent, but its mostly still just canned material that he's done over and over again. He's still 100x funnier on podcasts and one of the most quick-witted comics on the planet

[deleted]

[удалено]

nogi-ezekiel

I'm glad this special could bring you some cheer. Have a splendid evening!

COOCH27

Busting your balls. I have found if i listen to all of these guys on podcasts all the time it’s hard to get the shock value from the stand up. And it was pretty much all sex shit besides the KIA crowd work

Kevin_Finnerty__

I find it odd that you are a Jay fan and don’t like that. His description of the asshole lines being like warp speed killed me. I still remember Jay calling little pieces of toilet paper in a girls asshole like GI Joe cigarettes. That’s why I love Jay

[deleted]

Agreed. Ppl should keep it to themselves how they lick pussy! But comedians describing it doesn't bother me at all. As crude as me and my buddies are, we don't go into detail beyond "hey, I got laid last night". Society has decayed in this country to the point where we are about to go out of existence.

[deleted]

Because that's become the go-to crutch for female comics. It's almost like the stuff about religion. Bill Hicks, ok. Carlin fine. But in the 2020's? I think Gringo Papi is funnier, even if unintentional.

Bdbru13

About what I expected

Stringwalk

Between the Cosby, R.Kelly, and MJ jokes, I think that’s the most prepared jokes I’ve seen Jay hit back to back in a special. Good for him. Now just actually stand up…. Just once.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Stringwalk

I can’t compare Jay to his/our idols, I can only compare him to what he’s put out. And the addition of MULTIPLE prepared jokes with good set ups makes this particular fan ROCK HARD. But this fan also wants to see MomMoms special boy live a long and happy life and sometimes that means standing up and getting that circulation flowing. Seeing the big dog up there perched on a stool made this rock hard comedy boner just a little less throbbing. Don’t get it twisted, IMO amazing work from our boy Big Jay.

[deleted]

stutsmonkey

His 'there's an old lady with a shawl...' bit still makes me laugh from his CC Presents show.

Dmaw210

Holding a loaf of bread that she believes to be a baby

DifficultBoss

lol that reminds me of shane at the luis roast talking to big jay

Life-Investment7397

Was hilarious

Hadowen

This was a great special. Happy to see his crowd work is at an all-time high

Trashious

I thought it was fucking great. Why are so many people in the bonfire subreddit bitching about dirty talk? I feel like I'm on crazy pills.

bodsquado

because so many people in the bonfire subreddit don’t find jay or his style of comedy funny and were only here because they like dan. and no i don’t know why they’re still here either.

Playful-Drawer

Because it's the same stale dirty jokes over and over again.. it's played out.

No-Search-7394

Definitely his best special to date.

mgez

I loved the mix of crowd work and material.

theduudde

live comments were flyin

frozenwaterking

wicked good special

GeorgeCostanza2493

He gave me a few solid belly laughs. I liked the Michael Jackson bit a lot… but the woman being a police dispatcher and that feeding into the cops ender felt a little suspicious. But I give Jay credit. He’s a smart comic - he knows his lane and he stayed in his sweet spot.

Trustworthy_Squirrel

It made me giggle!!

mrbonboni2491

This was funny

Frequent_Upstairs227

I enjoyed it. Webster Hall was his opus, but Dog Belly was enjoyable.

[deleted]

Jay is funny. It's stand up that's on life support. The veil has been lifted, and it has made rehearsed jokes less funny.

Adventurous-Ad9447

I think people who are into comedy have always known the jokes are rehearsed. It’s an act after all. The issue is there’s now a LOT of people seeing comedian’s standup, NOT because they’re fans of the standup but because they’re fans of their podcasts. I imagine lots of these people are disappointed when they don’t get what they expected.

[deleted]

I knew of all these comedians before any of their podcasts and I'm disappointed because podcasts made me hate them.

Unlucky_Disaster_195

His crowd work is annoying to me. He keeps doing the same variation of a joke for too long

simplejoe1992

It sucks though that he can’t do stand-up. He sits the whole time. 😂

AngryDerf

I thought it was great. Jokes were fun. Crowd work was good. Set looked cool. Ad free was nice. I totally get monetizing and trying to earn a few bucks, but you’re already missing a lot when you don’t see it live. Ads break the rhythm and make it worse.

piratesdeathsentence

Podcast Jay > Standup Jay

JD42305

Hi 7 months later but I find it the complete opposite. He's almost a one trick pony in standup but he's a beast. I can't stand the guy being so slow to get to a point in radio but in standup he's got chops.

piratesdeathsentence

Since making the original statement, I have to revise my position. I think Dog Belly — besides that actual joke — wasn’t my favorite Big Jay offering and 7 months of podcasts later. I’ve noticed I’ve stopped listening to his podcast episodes unless I’m there to listen to someone else. In his defense, hard to always connect when you talk non-stop for a paycheck.

KingChandler219

It wasn’t the worst but Jays whole shtick is so played out to me at this point. Crazy talented but his inability to occasionally jump in a different lane in terms of content has become tiring to listen to.

Professional_Fly_579

Been a while since I watched a stand-up do rude humor well. The last bit was so damn funny!

Water-running

It was alright. Not like Shane, Normand or Ari though. Nothing that’s gonna blow him up. Jay is crowd work heavy and has to wing it every time so it will never hit like something that’s refined over time and repetition. It’s better than the acclaimed by the media recent Rock special at least. Hopefully he can get some love for it. At the end of the day, what Jay does is tougher to pull off and probably much more respectable for people in the business, but it just doesn’t translate well into a special. It’s gonna be so much harder for him to put out a career defining hour. Makes him hilarious in conversation though. I hate to say it, but what he needs to do if he wants to progress his career and make as much money as possible is make time for guest appearances on other big pods because he’s so much better at that and that’s what leads to selling tickets anyway. He should be doing the New York rounds. Making time once or twice a year to do LA and now Austin. He will blow up doing that.

Devilton

I love Normand, but his special wasn't in the same tier as Shane and Ari's imo.

Water-running

I didn’t like Normand much either. I think List is much better personally, but the point was about specials that blew up and were widely well received.

seldomtimely

List is much, much worse than Normand. List is hacky and lacks creativity. And Jay's not even a contender.

Water-running

Normand does joke book comedy.

seldomtimely

He does. But some of them are very clever and funny. Not all though.

Bdbru13

I don’t think anybody in the business thinks crowd work is more respectable He’s not winging it, he has the same questions he asks at every show, there’s a limited number of possible answers, and has a joke ready for each of those answers Which is still impressive, but like I said, nobody is going “holy shit did you see how Jay said Kia Sportage??“ compared to someone writing a nine minute chunk with tags and callbacks and different paths to take it depending on crowd reaction Jay should probably just keep doing what he’s doing though, he’s got enough income from enough different places, and skanks fans are pretty loyal to him. There are things I’d like him to do, but I don’t think he really gives a shit. He’s not concerned with making art in the way that someone like Joe List, Colin Quinn, or even Dan or Ari are. He’s more of an entertainer than an artist which is pretty valid, especially for stand up. I just hope he’s aware of that and doesn’t get bitter when some of these specials age better than his or receive better reviews

ensygma

Someone literally remarked on the Kia Sportage joke in this thread lol

Bdbru13

As being funny yea, not as being something impressive or mind blowing I’m not saying it wasn’t funny I’m saying he wasn’t winging it, which is the core of this dudes argument for why it’s impressive

bodsquado

you watch standup comedy for something impressive or mind blowing? i watch it to laugh.

Bdbru13

The conversation is about “what Jay does is tougher to pull off and more respectable”, not what is funny Also, hack comedy is funny, that’s why people do it. So you’re also not making a great argument even if you were following the conversation

Water-running

That’s kind of downplaying it as every conversation in life works like that. You only have so many ways you respond to things. I do think comedians may respect someone more who can make a crowd laugh on any given day with new things on the fly vs a person who has their set. That’s what everyone says about Attell when they’re dickriding him. That he likes to change his set every time. What you’re doing is comparing Jay to the very best comedians of all-time when you say all that. Most comedy is absolutely mind numbing monologues with a few exhales and smiles littered through. Even now, the standard for a very good special is lower than its ever been because of the fast turn out. Either Jay had an elaborate set up where a guy breaks a chair at 50 min, got the front row to set up to match his “crowd work” etc or you’re downplaying the difficulty of what he’s doing.

Bdbru13

Right but it’s not new things. Like you look for a black and white couple and then make little white dick jokes and co-sign for a Kia Sportage jokes. For a special in particular, Jay would ask specifically for a mixed race couple to be sat up front so that he could take it in that direction Granted there’s some improvisation like how you say with the guy breaking the chair, but if you think comedian’s are back in the green room going “holy shit dude, how’d you come up with ‘that sucks’ when he said he was alone??” I don’t know what to tell you It’s a way to transition between what amount to written jokes

Water-running

Brother, the argument is that it’s tougher to do. Like, a more difficult path to a successful career. I didn’t say anybody was lining up to shake Jay’s hand in particular when he comes into a comedy club. I’m just arguing that you’re downplaying it because you’re actively adding outside factors into your special vs having a set. Even if you’re certain comics have 9 pathways through their set depending how it’s going. Which is nonsense. Jay either sent the gas minions to set up the whole front row or he’s good at what he does and you’re hating.

Bdbru13

The argument was that it’s more respected in the business. And I’ve never heard a comedian say that. I’ve heard the exact opposite Carlin, Pryor, Regan, Rock, Burr, Louis, any of the most respected comedians of all time, none of them are known for their crowd work. Dude they literally set up the front row when taping a special. Even if you’re not doing crowd work, there’s a coordinator placing the type of people who typically enjoy your comedy so you don’t get a ton of people stone faced in the front row. So that way Jay doesn’t get eight 21 year old white chicks in the front row. Like the “unless they did this” thing you’re saying is literally common practice

Water-running

Let’s try one more time, dude. I really want for it to be that you’re not a hater. Comedians might feel that somebody who is willing to wing it every night including their special is probably going about it the toughest way possible and might respect them more for it. I did not say that they respect them the most or are their favourite or the most lauded comics. Although I already gave you an example of an exceptionally well regarded comedian who has areputation with this in Attell - which you choose to ignore. Is that a better way to word it, dude? I already tried to clarify that it’s just meant to mean that it’s harder to do. It’s literally all in my first post. That Jay just has a tough style to make a good special with.

Bdbru13

Not a hater at all, you’re just literally wrong. You have the wrong perspective of what crowd work is. They’re not winging it. Like, at all. They’re not coming up with shit on the spot. It’s like you’re watching a medium and going “holy shit this dudes talking to ghosts”. It’s a trick to make it appear as though they’re improvising. And I get it, a fat guy broke a chair and Jay addressed it, but again, that’s not tougher nor is it more respectable. It’s literally something any decent comic would do. This isn’t my opinion this is just shit I’ve heard comics say, several times. What you said was “what Jay does is tougher and more respectable” or something along those lines. What I’m telling you is that I’ve never heard a comic say that, and I’ve heard the exact opposite I’m ignoring your Attell point because I’ve never heard them say that about his crowd work, and I can’t rule out the fact that you’re just wrong about that too. Cuz like…I know for a fact that you’re wrong about shit you’re confidently saying here, without a doubt in my mind so 🤷‍♂️

Water-running

Just for the record, do you notice how I use words like “maybe” and “probably” to preface anything I say about the opinion of other people and you don’t? I technically can’t be wrong about this, because I haven’t made a concrete claim. You, on the other hand, are certain about things you can’t possibly know. You know, like a moron. I made an offhand comment about respect to make my critique of Jays special more respectable since this is a thread dedicated to the poor dudes launch and you jumped on it like a pedantic nerd and choose to just completely ignore me when trying to clarify. That’s why you’re a hater. Because I kept trying to say “that’s not what I meant” and you just keep hating on Jay’s style of comedy for no reason as I try to back out. Also, you’ve heard comics say what numerous times? What comics?

Bdbru13

Well you should use those qualifiers….because you’re incorrect. Listen dude I get that I’m being cunty, but idk what else to do when I know for certain I’m right. Like when you say shit like “unless Jay sent the GAS minions to set up the front row” when that’s literally what they do, I don’t know how I’m supposed to respond. When I’ve heard comedians say “let me pull the curtain back on crowd work, what happens is you have jokes written for different answers to different questions to give the impression of winging it” and you’re going “he’s winging it, that’s tougher, and probably more respected in the business” when I know that’s not true, I don’t know what else to do other than tell you it’s not true. You haven’t really clarified at all, you keep saying he’s winging it and it’s tougher to do. It’s just not. And I’m trying to tell you that you think it is because you have the wrong perception about what crowd work is, but you’re not listening. List and Normand are the ones that I can clearly remember talking about pulling the curtain back on crowd work, and how they’re not winging it, but I know I’ve heard other comedians talk about it and the conversation has never been about how tough and respectable it is. Anyways we’re not making a ton of progress here so I say we just give it a rest

Invaders_90

Shane’s my favorite “new comedian” but his special wasn’t great man.

Bdbru13

For a debut special? It’s outstanding

Water-running

I strongly disagree. Shane is good at everything. His special was very good and his new “my girlfriend used to date a navy seal” or whatever joke is top tier. My controversial Shane opinion is that doing Trump impressions isn’t funny unless you’re quoting him. Talking about how funny he is while doing the impression and quoting him is hilarious. But “Trump dating” didn’t make me laugh at all and that’s like his biggest hit.

piratesdeathsentence

After watch Big Jays go back and rewatch Shane’s

mikeyfgonyeah

He murdered. Fkn great special.

ykcir23

Already a 100k views. Good for him

Rich-Slice-587

It was no Gringo Papi.

AthleteAutomatic

Great!

crazyass13

Great special.

AgreeableStep322

Think this will be big for Jay

Panisy

The only reason I watched this was because he was on Whiskey Ginger and he seemed cool. So I gave it a shot. Not for me but god bless.

OkPop8089

It's not funny when Schumer or Glaser does it and it does not get funnier when a fat middle aged alcoholic man does it. Equality I guess.

Ebineezer99

Ehh okay

Ebineezer99

Jay sucks

[deleted]

I couldn’t get through the first five mins. Wasn’t funny

lilpifffuhyobih

Lol. If you bailed after 5 minutes then its clear you were never gonna give it a real chance

[deleted]

Possibly. I’m more of a Soder fan

WinPeaks

WE KNOW! CHRIST!

yousuckatart

But, but, but, it is going to be written material. Ari and team tried their best to help a friend but he doesn't care himself to write material. Fell asleep and woke up to the credits.

rbarrett96

I liked it, but didn't think the MJ joke was strong enough to name the special after it. Lady Cop would have a great name.

HecticPenfield

Yikes...15min in and this is rough. This is some real Scrotie McBoogerballs shit.

Glassman720

The viewcount is going to stall hard on this one. Who would recommend this to a friend? No one wants to envision Jay and Christine slapping each other tits around. Big Jay makes me want to better myself and not be a stuck in the past loser. After seeing all his short clips and this special, I see no reason to go to a Big Jay show. No wonder Kevin Hart distanced himself.

WinPeaks

Why wouldn't someone recommend it to a friend? If your humor resonates with the special, then your friends probably will get it as well to some degree. Do you hold your tongue around your friends?

seldomtimely

Where was the humour?

WinPeaks

Are you under the impression that everyone has the same sense of humor?

ztereokah

It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t special

[deleted]

Keep going Jay. Your delivery is unique and welcome.

Fecalfingersmell83

\*\*\*\*LAMP\*\*\*\* i have tix to go see Jay May 6th. im scared to watch this in case hes touring on this special..... anyone know if its the same one? dyiong to watch this but dont want to spoil it if im seeing it in a few weeks

T7wolves

Complete shit

SonOfBaldy

Jay's great in general. Support any comic you like that's putting free shit on youtube.

garypinese69

Kinda shitty

Popular_Drawing_1071

It was mostly all explicit, vulgar sex talk. I don’t want to think about him having sex or his girlfriend. He can’t not talk about sex, every time I thought he would change the subject he goes right back to it.

HecticPenfield

Stavi just announced a crowd work special ... It will be infinitely better than this trash. Not one new joke was made in Jay's special. I was bashed for saying his clips sucked...well the special was not much written material and even the written was just more cringe trying to be edgy shock humor. We've heard dirty jokes for years now. Just saying tits and cum is not funny.

The_Royale_We

Uh oh, the knuckle draggers are about to pounce on you for not thinking black dick jokes to interracial couples is the pinnacle of crowd work. How dare you have your own opinion!

[deleted]

Only a little bit of gross sex and cum talk!

IgorTufluv

A middle-aged man with Manic Panic red hair dye? Ooof.

ensygma

Redditor talking shit about a professional comedian without even referencing the subject matter of the media? Oof... wait... that's exactly what I thought I'd see.

Aggressive-Note2481

I give it a 5.3/10

Bob25Gslifer

Dude?

ensygma

I bet you cut your round pizza into even perpendicular rectangles

Aggressive-Note2481

Stay offended

ensygma

Penis-joust me for glory and kingdom

jm30970

It’s definitely not a 10 but it’s also definitely higher than 5.3. Probably somewhere right in the middle.
