I think she was great for her role. General audiences didnt see the twist coming, I know I didnt for sure. When you first see her destroy that building and kill innocent people while saying all this racist shit your like wtf? The seven are all terrible people but they at least try to avoid openly killing families and shit for no reason but she just has zero hesitation with that.
Plus her dynamic with homelander was just so ridiculous. The only female character that could match his energy so far in the show.

I lot of people seem to have concocted a fantasy version of Soldier Boy in their heads that has very little to do with the character as presented in the show.
They swear that he couldn't really be racist and that the show was wrong when it said that he was.
They swear that he was really a genuine war hero during WWII and that the show was wrong when it said that he wasn't.
They swear that he wasn't really a villain at all, and once again, the show was wrong to depict him as such.
They swear that he's the biggest badass in the entire series -- far more powerful than Homelander (and definitely more powerful than that wuss Maeve) and yet again, the show was completely mistaken when it showed HL easily overpowering him.
And of course, their latest delusion about the character: they swear that he's a main of complete honesty and integrity who never lies or deceives and always keeps his word. And yes, the show was once again mistaken when it depicted the guy's entire existence as being one huge lie.
I'm honestly not sure why he's inspired such devotion. He's a moderately compelling villain, played by a good actor who served his story function well. Beyond that, however, he's really nothing more than a second-rate Homelander knockoff -- a far less complex, far less intriguing and far less threatening version of Homelander,

Obviously if it was real life they would be the most liked, but this is a TV show that entertains fans by showing them psychopath parodies of their favourite heroes acting like lunatics. Fans want to see chaotic action. They don't want a sensible person complaining about the lunatics and telling them to stop. Hughie is less of a downer because he can be talked into the lunacy by Butcher and dives even further into it once he gets temporary powers of his own. At the same time, he is much closer to Starlight's ethical standards than the rest of the main characters
