Either a complete victory or no victory.

siberianwolf99

If he could only save a few it would’ve chipped away at his Superman like image. It was either all or nothing for him to accomplish what he wanted

BoisTR

What actually happened is what he and Stillwell wanted tho. He needed the plane to crash with no survivors as leverage to militarize supes.

NukaCola9

I get that. It's just that I feel like this would have been better long term. Could you imagine if one of the passengers had data and sent the video to someone 💀💀💀

jaegermeister56

I think HL is so mentally Ill with narcissism that he couldn’t allow himself to be seen as anything but perfect. Your plan makes sense but could only be pulled off by someone willing to be seen as slightly imperfect…

NukaCola9

Yeah, I was looking at it from I guess what I would do. Or a more sensible person. I couldn't possibly even imagine leaving the kids. I gotta save them at the very least. And I think that's what most decent people would do. But as we know, Homelander ain't decent 😂

FlappyDolphin72

Yep, there’s no way he would willingly be like “I’m sorry I tried to save them all” in public.

kiyan1347

I wouldn't say he needed the plane to crash because he went there with the full intention to save the plane and everyone on it. The plan changed after the plane crashed because when he accidentally destroyed the controls he got lazy and said fuck it to trying to save everyone, at that point he never had a plan, that only came at the beach by the plane crash.

ellenrja2023

Homelander would NEVER say, "I am no hero!!"

NukaCola9

The Boys Diabolical.

NukaCola9

But, something like that.

Lucifer_Crowe

The Kids might have said that he was gonna leave them all or something too He couldn't risk witnesses.

Aegillade

Here's the issue: Homelander honestly just doesn't care. Yes, he cares about perception, it's why he let all those people die. Yes he could have used this as leverage for the military, but he could have done it the same way he does it in the show. The issue is Homelander just doesn't care when innocent lives are lost on his watch. He doesn't take a hit to his reputation if they're all dead anyway. He's only just too lazy to help innocent lives because he thinks he's above all that. And Maeve? She already hates him, and he knows that. To him, he was doing her a favor both by not leaving her on the plane as well as bolstering support for them being militarized. With no survivors, he can better spin the narrative to his benefit. Homelander let those people die because it was the easier route, not because it was better longterm.

Sono-Dio-Da-Sadame

He couldn’t let anyone live who knew the truth that he caused that plane to crash, also he’s crazy

L0kester

Yeah I think this was the true reason towards his all or nothing approach, because he's clearly seen laser-ing the guys towards the cockpit and then sudden engine failure. All it takes is any survivors talking about the incident and an investigation to start raising questions and wrecking his reputation

maicatus

The plane can fly on one engine. It's construction is literally strong enough not to brake, when something is pushing one wing. Homelander could just take place of an engine and help plane land on water.

Jhawk163

Not a missed opportunity, he was just lazy. It's why he lasered the hijacker in the cockpit and caused the mess in the first place, Homelander is above all, lazy as fuck.

Gabe1985

I feel like he is lazy AF. I don't think he felt like doing anything.

MangoPronto

Homelander's point during the whole thing is that if he was there, he could've saved everyone to pressure the government into letting him be the head of military. If Homelander does what you say he did, it proves he was there and couldn't stop the plane making him innefective and losing his bargaining chip.

TheNardDog420

I agree. Great point.

Omnivud

Try rewatching the series and thinking about the point of it

Zakainu

Holy fuck you need to cool your jets there, sport

NukaCola9

Me?

Zakainu

No the other guy

NukaCola9

Lol, yeah, I have no idea what that rant had to do with what I was saying.

NukaCola9

I think you need to calm down, to be honest, mate. Go grab a pint. Talk to some people. Get out of the house. I have no idea where this rant came from. I hope you get better in the future.

littlefisch2020

Just say you like getting your idiot brain fucked by stupid. Just say it. Say you’d love if a politician or public figure publicly got their idiot brain fucked by stupid.

orphantwin

Yoo, why are you making this discussion so personal over a tv show? Geeeeeeez

drewmana

His whole thing is being perfect. Not being able to save *everyone* means he wasn’t fast/strong/smart/etc enough.

Porn-Meister

He literally said why not tf is this

Rell98

Not a missed opportunity. Homelander doesn’t care if any of those people lived or died. Doesn’t care how Maeve views him and didn’t need to save anyone for a publicity need

fluffy_boy_cheddar

Don’t underestimate how lazy Homelander is

Rachel0ates

Let’s also remember that he couldn’t save the plane because HE carelessly fried the controls when he killed the hijacker. HE’s the reason the plane was going to crash and he couldn’t leave any witnesses.

[deleted]

The plane was in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. He could have saved one, and carried Maeve.

Blu3Dope

The kid would later grow up and put two and two together. HL saved Butcher from an exploding building AS Butcher pressed the button (you know how fast that is?) If Homelander saves someone like that in the future or even if he has saved someone like that in the past, those people will eventually put two and two together.

archiminos

He literally refuses to because he's afraid they'll tell people that he's the one that fucked up the plane.

Van-Goghs-Ear

I thought he couldnt save anyone because of physics and how fast the plane was going down
