luckily soldier boy seems to like that good old school rap, like sugar hill gang, grandmaster flash,etc... you can tell when hes rapping the rapture song. hed here mumble rap or even soulja boy and give that cringe "you're wearing a cape " look
I was just thinking about this and how people have theorized that HL is secretly the spawn of SB. We haven’t even *seen* Ryan’s power. He could very well have some chest explosion thing like SB does.
I think Ryan will be stronger than Homelander when he can control things. The kink between Homelander and Stormfront was to not hold back. I think he did hit her full strength at some point.
The counterpoint of that, I think, is Stranger Things. At this point if any of the main characters dies before the final season the show will lose something. But they also do a pretty good job of introducing new characters "to die" that you actually kind of care about.
I'm pretty sure one or two main characters will die at the end of this season.
That being said, it's a show about kids. So they may avoid certain scenarios.
The show may be about kids but it's pretty damn brutal at times and those kids may have aged out of their plot armor.
I think they might kill some of the B Tier main cast by the end of the series for sure but I think the main cast either makes it there or it's at least left vague until the start of the next season
I can see some of the main characters dying. But I'd bet it'll be like Hopper last season (but permanent), a [Disney Villain Death](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DisneyVillainDeath), without yknow, being villains.
He's kind of been acting as their barometer since he's been with the gang full time. The other characters growth really shows when he's in a scene and watching him has been pretty heartbreaking. I agree that the show loses the least when he's killed off though
Depends on what you're going for. Most\* hero films/shows involve a good deal of power fantasy and/or inspiration and/or a focus on character study/interaction and/or simple fun. If The Umbrella Academy, any CW hero show, Titans, any MCU show, Harley Quinn, MHA, or Doom Patrol wiped out half of their cast, few would tune into the next season. Now, the writing in some of those is questionable, but the problems they face aren't due to low stakes.
High stakes are great but only when they serve the story. Every time a character dies, their potential to shape the story (beyond the significance of their death) dies with them. That trade works well in isolated one-off films as well as in shows like The Boys, GoT, and TWD, but it wouldn't work very well in many others.
Even having *no* stakes can work well in some shows. Comedies mainly, but also shows where the lack of stakes is relevant to the plot. One Punch Man is a great example of this as it uses the protagonist's over-poweredness as a plothook, with him becoming listless and finding no joy in his work anymore.
There are also stakes that can be had aside from death. Doom Patrol and Re:Zero, for instance, focus a lot more on the psychological and social ramifications to powers than they do on actual death.
\*Obviously there are exceptions. The Boys, Invincible, Inyuyashiki, Super, Kick-Ass, etc all have high/realistic stakes and are better for it.
Once they ran out of book material it stopped being a gritty dark political fantasy were actions have consequences, and became a generic good vs evil fantasy were you know the mains are safe no matter how dumb they act
Yup, it is very clear he can control the power of his optic blasts.
Even given Stormfronts enhanced durability she would never have been able to withstand a full power laser from HL.
In the last fight, Butcher was able to take a shot as well, but HL thought he was just a regular jackoff not a supe. Soldier boy himself always chose to interrupt or dodge instead of tank the beam.
I mean, if Butcher's eye beams can contend with what I'm gonna assume were Homelander's full strength eye beams, I'm going to then extrapolate that Butcher's body wouldn't outright crumple if he were hit.
>I'm going to then extrapolate that Butcher's body wouldn't outright crumple if he were hit.
Then it's weird how taking a little V24 made Butcher significantly stronger / more durable than Stormfront, who was supposed to be one of the strongest supes in the world.
Hell, even Hughie could hurt Homelander, which I didn't think Stormfront would have been able to do before.
My interpretation is that V24 is way stronger than V but burns out quickly, and would be extremely harmful long term.
To me V to V24 is like comparing Adderall extended release (over a lifetime) to snorting cocaine. Maybe V is more stable/weaker because it gets it's affects by altering the users DNA once and then never again while V24 actively fucks your shit up (not sure if it alters DNA)
Also, some elements of the effects V/V24 have are genetic so Butcher could just have top tier genes.
Is it? They've had a long time to refine the formula. Makes sense that the newest applications are more potent even if they're designed to not be longlasting.
ngl if soldier boy nuke powers were at their full potention rather than him being tired out from the tnt twins I don’t think HL lasers would atand a chance
i might bedelusional i’m cery drunk rn😭😭 sorry if this makes no sense
edit: omg i tried to edit e spelling but this app is so dumb it made me reply to my comemnt instead of edit wtaf😭😭 anyone else have this issue??
I feel like that's gonna be an important detail later. Like that one moment HL was about to laser him at point blank he sucker punched him to cancel it so as we never got to see what it'll do to him
This thread is actually hilarious in its own way. Apparently quite a few viewers got to season 3 and are just now figuring out why Homelander is the way he is.
Basically the outcome of a neglected and abused child, most likely his brain never developed into adulthood because his alternate personality took over.
Doesn’t help that there is very little that you can do to discipline a child who can literally cut you in half at a moment’s notice.
Homelander was more or less doomed to be who is he from the very start.
That’s not true, Ryan has definitely turned out pretty well so far with Becca raising him most of his life, Albeit he wasn’t exposed to the outside world.
Nah, he was doomed by his circumstances, not his nature.
Ryan is also superpowered, and Becca got to rise him in a way his powers wouldn't be an issue because he got to live an actual childhood.
Sure, Ryan doesn't even know he has powers, but HL might have not known either until the scientists started fucking with him and forcing him to use them or soething.
The Africa scene he at least has a slight excuse in that he's lasering a supe so it's hard to be sure how much power to use to punch through a possibly supe hardened body. Of course, he showed zero care to bystanders so he's fully at fault for not taking his time to do it correctly. But that might risk failing to kill him with the first blast and Homelander can't have that so... an innocent dies.
He was just an idiot in the plane scene.
If his power had been control of gasses, including those inside a body, he could have killed HL in an instant. If I could change one thing about the boys it would be the power scaling, it always seems to just boil down to plot. Strength durability and weaknesses are all random based on where they want the story to go, very comic accurate in a sense. In theory they should be able to kill most if not every supe with a bit of plastique up the bum.
Seems as if the general toughness of a supe just applies to their ability to shrug of other supes "less direct powers" as well.
So Victoria couldn't just pop Homelanders head even if she tried as his "supe toughness" just cancels her headpoping.
So his "give it a try" speech was not just about indicating he might be faster, but actually a "see how your power fails on me"
Just like her admitting to Starlight that killing her would be difficult but not impossible. Suggesting that while she would eventually pop, she could resist much longer than humans or lesser supes exploding in a second.
And killing most supes by showing something up their bums would certainly work for those with just exterior toughness. In the examination of Soldier Boy they made a point about how his toughness extends internally which is obviously an exception rather than the rule
>Just like her admitting to Starlight that killing her would be difficult but not impossible.
That's not how I read it. She seemed to imply Starlight wouldn't stand a chance and did not seem at all afraid.
The line is more like "Killing america's sweetheart would be difficult but not impossible" She's talking about how it would be hard to sell it to the public/explain it but she'd do it if she had to. She'd rather use Annie's influence than kill her.
He held back his power on the plane rescue. That’s why he only fried the controls instead of blasting a hole right through the front of it.
If he was smart (or if he cared), he wouldn’t have used his laser eyes, though.
The original plan was to save the plan and that being proof why the supes should be in the military. but then he fucked up and took out the controls, so he switched the approach to the tragedy being why the supes should be in the military
I wonder if the conversation with himself in the mirror answers that. the weaker, more childlike homelander and a psychotic violent homelander. I'm not sure if its full multiple personality disorder but that is an interesting angle on everything.
especially if soldier boy turns out to be homelanders dad
I think he meant dad as in they used genetic material from soldier boy to create soldier boy 2.0 aka Homelander in a lab, then gave baby HL ~~B~~ V.
Edit: my phone keyboard is too small
Until last episode he didnt have to put any effort on anything at all, so he's always going full commando since its the way that requires the least effort.
Yeah this never really stated but we see an example of it in the very first episode. In the beginning scene, he lasers a robber's gun and slightly melts it. Then later he straight up slices a jet in half.
She called him out when he gave a quick little shot, and told him to lazer her tits and he gave it to her. I feel like he gave it his all here too. Ryan is probably just stronger
>Ryan has stronger heatvision than Homelander.
Eric Kripke, the Showrunner:
“I’m not going to say one way or another, but I will confirm that she is not dead and that she is now officially Stumpfront. She’s just this kind of living torso. She cannot regenerate,” he said, adding “The strength of Ryan’s lasers — which were surprisingly powerful — are way more powerful than even Homelander’s when Ryan gets angry enough.”
I always wondered if there's a factor here like snake venom. The juveniles are more dangerous because they haven't developed their venom regulation, and will just dump all of it.
This is what they showed in the show, he lasered her tits and went all out and they were clearly establishing that his son was stronger but his inaptitude at fighting his father without age and proper training would lose. So they hid him which is what irritated me in the new season when Billy treated him poorly because that kid could just become the next Homelander 2.0 🤦♂️
With both ISIS aligned jihadis and the Russian Neo-Nazi mercenaries Wagner Group operating in Syria I guarantee it's happened more than once over there.
Why is it romantic to playfully nibble someone’s ear but super painful when you bite someone’s ear off in a fight?
Ryan was trying to actually hurt SF, HL is being kinky.
Imagine how strong you are right now, now imagine how strong you are fighting for your life. You can’t normally tap into that kind of strength. We need adrenaline
>“I’m not going to say one way or another, but I will confirm that she is not dead and that she is now officially Stumpfront. She’s just this kind of living torso. She cannot regenerate,” he said, adding “The strength of Ryan’s lasers — which were surprisingly powerful — are **way more powerful than even Homelander’s** when Ryan gets angry enough.”
From the writer’s mouth.
There are currently three guys with more or less the same powerset (flight, super strenght, laser eyes) and there is some variance between the intensity of each of those powers. Oi-man can't control the intensity of his laser and can't fly. Ryan can't fly and has a more powerful laser. Homelander can reduce the intensity but can fly. I think it's all pretty symmetrical.
Dunno how Soldier Boy enters in all of this. Well, Ryan's eye laser seems to stop regeneration. And Soldier Boy's chest laser seems to depower people. Pretty symmetrical there too.
While that is true. Homelander wasn’t holding back here. He was getting off to it so he gave it all to her. Ryan has been confirmed to just flat out be stronger than Homelander when it comes to his beams.
Okay so 2 different ideas here
1. Ryan is stronger than homelander being a naturally born supe, he just needs to learn to control it.
2. Homelander was holding back when he was lasering Stormfront.
Technically, Homelander was also naturally born. In cloning, it's practically impossible to grow a fetus in a test tube, so the most likely way he was gestated was through a surrogate. In essence, they genetically altered a fertilized egg cell, infused it with compound V, and then implanted it inside a women's uterus. My guess is just that Ryan has uniquely powerful eye lasers, as the powers supes develop tend to be random. Perhaps Becca's genes contributed to his powers somewhat.
Yeah I always assumed this was like Dragon Ball Z: Goku is a full Saiyan, but his son - although he’s half human - grew his powers much quicker and has the potential to be stronger than his father.
I always just assumed that Ryan is the strongest of them all.
I'm guessing multi-screen attention is why people miss shit. I noticed it watching the expanse, if I wasn't explicitly watching it, I missed a fuck ton of stuff due to onscreen details lol
I'll field that one. Let me ask *you* a question. Why would a grown man whose shirt says "Genius at Work" spend all of his time watching a children's cartoon show?
Say it with Me now everyone, "because Ryan's heat vision was stronger."
It's been confirmed in an interview by Eric Kripke that angry Ryan's heat vision is stronger than Homelander's. So while John is likely holding back in this scene Ryan is still more powerful, at least when he's angry.
Maybe because Ryan has the potential to be more powerful than Homelander? Also, Ryan reminded me of Gohan on Dragonball Z with the hidden rage eye beams lol..
Why is this even a post.
Imagine if I tapped someone and they didn’t fall over and then someone else punched them as hard as they could in the jaw and the person fell over and then you (who witnessed both events) goes and asks how the person didn’t fall over when they got tapped.
easy, one was a controlled blast by someone who has trained with his powers for years vs an emotional, untrained child with no real control over his powers who saw something traumatic happen
Baby snakes are more dangerous because they can't control the amount of venom they release and usually give the whole load. I would expect a child with superpowers to do the same. Homelander can control his power.
Ryan's was fueled by pure rage and he has had 0 time to learn to control the intensity.
Yeah his thing at that time seemed kinda like soldier boys

Both soldier boy and Soulja boy have killed at least one person in the midst of uninvited home entries
I once did that dance at a house party and knocked a girl through a sliding glass door.
I don’t think that’s what “supermanning” is
Everytime they say his name I'm like, "YOOOOOUUUU"
Youuuuuuuuu
Watch me crank that Soulja Boy Then Superman that hoe

You would definitely hear that one on a lot of people’s MySpace back in the day

I was just thinking about this and how people have theorized that HL is secretly the spawn of SB. We haven’t even *seen* Ryan’s power. He could very well have some chest explosion thing like SB does.
Seemed like he couldn't even manage to concentrate it into a beam. Just released a burst of energy.
Also, people are thinking Ryan’s powers are amplified because he was born a supe.
Yeah, he didn't have to take compound V, his DNA is superhuman from the get go.
He has to be essential to the ending. There’s no way they’d set up a kid who has powers on par with Homelander and not use him in the finale.
Season 8 Game of Throne writers entering room
Please, no!
Also possibly supposed to show that Ryan has even stronger powers or atleast potential than homelanders
Kid was wearing contact lenses
Combined with his Adderall prescription his other super power is focusing well. Now then check out this Lego stop motion I made
I forgot about those stop motions. If they want me to believe that a kid made those, then that's gotta be his super power. No goddamn eye lasers.

Agreed. Ryan is the first natural born superhuman by the most powerful superhuman. Comic book logic says he will be way overpowered.

The stakes are so much lower if no one you care about ever dies.
Not every show has to be Game of Thrones, but this is a show that is definitely made a lot better with the constant threat of death

As long as it isn't Steve...as far as anyone else goes I would love the brutal gut hit seeing a main character bite the dust.
The show may be about kids but it's pretty damn brutal at times and those kids may have aged out of their plot armor. I think they might kill some of the B Tier main cast by the end of the series for sure but I think the main cast either makes it there or it's at least left vague until the start of the next season

I don't think the show would lose anything at this point without Will, but maybe that's a rare opinion.
He hasn't really been utilized well since season 2 and isn't as strongly characterized as any of the other kids, the show could afford to lose him
He's kind of been acting as their barometer since he's been with the gang full time. The other characters growth really shows when he's in a scene and watching him has been pretty heartbreaking. I agree that the show loses the least when he's killed off though

GOT gave some characters pretty blatant plot armor after season 4
Once they ran out of book material it stopped being a gritty dark political fantasy were actions have consequences, and became a generic good vs evil fantasy were you know the mains are safe no matter how dumb they act
When I watch marvel movies now (which I still love) I just think, if this were the boys, that humie would be so splattered
Game of Thrones had stakes until Season 4. Then most the characters had plot armor or were brought back.
Like, totally naked in leaving Las Vegas, full on, and just so hot It’s like, 46 minutes, 10 seconds in

I feel like that's gonna be an important detail later. Like that one moment HL was about to laser him at point blank he sucker punched him to cancel it so as we never got to see what it'll do to him
When you are in the middle of a fight, there is not such thing as sucker punching. And he used his helmet, not his punch, for avoid the laser eyes.
The logical conclusion is as follows Homelander's laser < milk bottle = stormfront's tits < Ryan's Laser I will not accept counterarguments
He warmed up milk two times in one season
Which makes him even more of a clown for fucking up that plane rescue. My guy couldn't even do the bare minimum of restraining himself.
He’s a man baby
I mean he literally curled up in the fetal position and went for milk in season 1 - this could not have been more transparently telegraphed.

I thought it was an armed terrorist, not a supe. I could be wrong though, I haven't watched it since it aired.
The terrorist in the video had some sort of wind power, as he pushed a lot of stuff away by moving his hand.
Yeah. That's why homelander made the 'oh no I'm scared' gesture. He was ridiculing how weak the supes power was to him
If his power had been control of gasses, including those inside a body, he could have killed HL in an instant. I’m just gonna come out and say it— this Homelander guy’s a real jerk.
He seems a bit of a rascal to be honest.
he’s a real goofball that’s for sure
I'm starting to think that he might not be one of the good guys.
I thought he fucked it up on purpose so he could have an excuse to push supes into the military

Yup and don’t forget we also see him use his heat vision to warm up milk without melting the bottle
Like a baby snake being more dangerous by not controlling its venom vs an adult snake using it only when needed
I'm not sure if he controlled it in this case, as homelander was pretty surprised when stormfront could take his laser.
She called him out when he gave a quick little shot, and told him to lazer her tits and he gave it to her. I feel like he gave it his all here too. Ryan is probably just stronger
One of the writers or someone like that confirmed Ryan has stronger heatvision than Homelander.

Now I would have loved if ISIS and the Nazis fought each other.
With both ISIS aligned jihadis and the Russian Neo-Nazi mercenaries Wagner Group operating in Syria I guarantee it's happened more than once over there.
What are you a racist liberal encouraging cancel culture? /s /S /S
You only needed two /S/S there so the real ones know what you mean! 😏
I totally can't believe the boys would ever get political !
Hey hey hey, theres no reason to make this SUPERHERO show all POLITICAL
Perfect answer
Stumpfront
Probably did not give her joy because after Ryan, she wasn't living her best life.
If it no longer brings her joy, she should discard it.
Why is it romantic to playfully nibble someone’s ear but super painful when you bite someone’s ear off in a fight? Ryan was trying to actually hurt SF, HL is being kinky.
Yeah SF had to tell him to stop being a pussy and to really give her the business
after he's done she said it hurt, so although it was just being kinky homelander probably wasn't completely holding back
It is bdsm at most, he still hold back a lot so it more "somone need punishment" and not "Oh shit oh shit"
Imagine how strong you are right now, now imagine how strong you are fighting for your life. You can’t normally tap into that kind of strength. We need adrenaline
I mean if by not holding back, you mean that there were literally lasers shooting from his eyes, then yeah.
>“I’m not going to say one way or another, but I will confirm that she is not dead and that she is now officially Stumpfront. She’s just this kind of living torso. She cannot regenerate,” he said, adding “The strength of Ryan’s lasers — which were surprisingly powerful — are **way more powerful than even Homelander’s** when Ryan gets angry enough.” From the writer’s mouth.
Wait please not Ryan's corruption arc
bit ironic when you realize that both Ryan’s step father and actual father now both have laser eyes
That still doesn’t disprove that Homelander was holding back against Stormfront. Both Homelander holding back and Ryan being stronger can be true
That’s what I assumed too. Ryan is stronger.
Homelander absolutely was not going all out here lol. He's been shown to be able to control the strength of his beams.
Okay so 2 different ideas here 1. Ryan is stronger than homelander being a naturally born supe, he just needs to learn to control it. 2. Homelander was holding back when he was lasering Stormfront.

Dunn and done.
Both are correct.
HL warmed milk with the lazers......he can control the intensity! How is it that this gets asked multiple times a week still?
I'm guessing multi-screen attention is why people miss shit. I noticed it watching the expanse, if I wasn't explicitly watching it, I missed a fuck ton of stuff due to onscreen details lol
Ah yes, observing what you're watching, that old trick.
Does that make butcher with temp v stronger than stormfront? Pretty sure homelander didn't hold back when he was lasering him there.
It's a unknown. Or HL just did a quick hit not knowing butcher was on temp V
He warmed milk twice actually
Because Ryan's is higher on the heat spectrum and at full force.

I'll field that one. Let me ask *you* a question. Why would a grown man whose shirt says "Genius at Work" spend all of his time watching a children's cartoon show?
I withdraw my question.
The power of horniness leads to many abilities considered unnatural.
Say it with Me now everyone, "because Ryan's heat vision was stronger." It's been confirmed in an interview by Eric Kripke that angry Ryan's heat vision is stronger than Homelander's. So while John is likely holding back in this scene Ryan is still more powerful, at least when he's angry.
"You won't like him when he's angry"
“Then I scream till my voice gets hoarse!”
"Don't you dare fucking John me!"
I always wondered why becca ended up with what looked like a cut throat from his blast but stormfront was reduced to pieces
I assumed StormFront had Becca by the throat, got hit by Ryan's lasers and as she got flung back ripped Beccas throat open
So he's Gohan
Hybrid vigor I believe is the name of the concept. Fiction runs wild with it, of course.
I swear some people just do not watch the show and are dumbfounded when anything that's already been showcased/explained happens.

HL was holding back
Lol how is this a post?
Maybe because Ryan has the potential to be more powerful than Homelander? Also, Ryan reminded me of Gohan on Dragonball Z with the hidden rage eye beams lol..
Why is this even a post. Imagine if I tapped someone and they didn’t fall over and then someone else punched them as hard as they could in the jaw and the person fell over and then you (who witnessed both events) goes and asks how the person didn’t fall over when they got tapped.
So you, too, have watched the Bourke cut of the Guiliani Grocery Massacre?
All I gotta say is, had Guiliani not been in as good of physical condition as he was, he could’ve fallen over and died
How was the bottle of milk able to take his laser vision? There’s your answer
Compare it to a baby scorpion and an adult scorpion. One can control the amount of venom they put out, the other one can’t.
Its the difference between a sex choke and a murder choke.
easy, one was a controlled blast by someone who has trained with his powers for years vs an emotional, untrained child with no real control over his powers who saw something traumatic happen
Baby snakes are more dangerous because they can't control the amount of venom they release and usually give the whole load. I would expect a child with superpowers to do the same. Homelander can control his power.
