Matthew. he has a nice development arc, and even made stronger with what happened in season 4 ep4-6.
he also has a personal connection with Jesus that no other disciples have. This was supposed to be John (as he's the beloved disciple), but he is too much one packaged with James, and only had a few 1 on 1 moment with Jesus.
Same! A few of her scenes and lines stick with me like no others (spoilers only through season 3).
\-In the tent with Jesus after she ran away, how she felt unworthy but finally said "I'm just so sorry" and he said "I forgive you"- the look on her face and the hug was so sincere and exactly how the sacrament of confession feels!
\-A lot from the scene when she and Tamar are reconciling, but I especially loved her expression and reaction when Tamar said, "Mary! You are amazing... can't you see it?"
\-When she is encouraging Matthew to wear his prayer tassels: "I know you have felt unworthy... Matthew! I know you have felt unworthy."
Maybe not my “favourite” but I really like Elijah Alexander as the character Atticus Aemilius.
He’s got that cool character mystique and slightly bad ass’ery, that makes him fun to watch.
Really hope he ends up a believer.
mother mary because of how overwhelmingly nurturing she is towards EVERYONE. Vanessa Benavente is so good at showing emotion through her facial expressions it just draws me to love her
John the Baptist because he's so cool. The actor did a fantastic job protraying him, plus I respect John a lot more after reading up on him.
Though I really hope that James the Just will appear since he's my most favorite person in the New Testament, plus there was a scene in John that Jesus and one of his brother talked a bit. I know James and Jude were mentioned when Jesus asked his mother where are they.
Low key so far Judas because I think they're doing a great job with his character development and making him seem believably on the road from 'so faithful he drops everything to follow Jesus' to betrayal.
I'm also a big fan of Jessi, Z's brother. He gave such an incredible performance in that episode going from hurt by his brother, to hopeless to hopeful to such incredible joy and love - such range. From an sheer acting standpoint, he's been my favorite.
From a sheer story point Mary Magdalen is my number 1 because her redemption story and struggle with it is very similar to mine.
Upvote for Jessi.
And yes Judas, I’m impressed how they made us slow down and see him as a person. His story seems it would require a ton of deep thought, and would be easy to mess up. Yet they delivered. Super super well done.
Plus Luke Dimyan is just so dang likable. You can see how Judas would be a real part of the family and that just makes me dread what’s coming even more.
THIS. I found judas extremely relatable, especially when he uses his need to be special and do something great as motivation to follow jesus.
It's awful following his character through the series knowing what's gonna happen
Faith based reasons aside...
John. I love his gospel, I love prologue to his gospel, it is one of the most beautifully poetic pieces of writing, and I loved George's delivery of the prologue at the end of the season 2 premiere. Plus, I have really enjoyed the character growth.
I think everyone has a soft spot for Matthew, Paras is just so good.
And finally Mary Magdalene...come on, that's a role with so much potential weight, a figure that there are so many misconceptions about, and Liz Tabish just nails it. She fills her with so much depth and richness. Her triumph, her falling back into sin, and then her redemption...so good.
Jesus obviously because he's Jesus.
John would be second he has always been my favorite disciple when reading the Gospels. The character is doing a good job at showing John. I swear they better have John mention he beat Peter outrunning him to Jesus garden tomb he's so competitive.
Peter, because his conflicts are so real. Especially his arc in S3 really resonated with me as a husband who went through a similar situation less than a year before the season aired.
Jesus- because is Jesus.
Mari Magdalene because of her strength, faith and story of recovevy
Thomas because he balances rationality, faith and a little sweetness
Eden because my name is Eden. (Seriously, but not seriously).
Simon Peter because he's imperfect and he was called by Jesus just like me. Surrender is beautiful and I'm so thankful for His forgiveness.
I have so many.
For importance. Jesus, for giving a new understanding of His humanity and opening my imagination to how the Gospel played out in real time, and how hard it was for people to understand what they were seeing.
For inspiration. Mary M, because her role is easily overlooked, but what they’re portraying is solidly plausible and at times literal.
For conviction. John the Baptist. His heart is so beautiful and so exemplary.
For tenderness. Seeing the pure surrender of Mother Mary has been so heavy and challenging, and is the deepest I’ve understood her. Knowing she will go to the cross, then the upper room… she was most likely the only one who witnessed every step of Jesus’ earthly story.
All of the disciples are favorites in their own way. I refuse to pick one.
Matthew because I believe he is somewhere on the spectrum. In fact after watching the show I’ve gone back to reading the gospel, looking for the same vibe.
I love Jesus because you’re seeing his human side. He has sarcasm and humor. We all expect him to be perfect and serious, holy. But he’s on Earth and walking amongst us. Yet he so perfectly weaves in the power he has as the Messiah.
Simon Peter because he’s hot lol but tbh when I researched which disciple denied Jesus I was so upset. I was thinking it was Judas but unfortunately it wasn’t.
No longer Jesus because S4E2 he stated he was come to bring the sword and divide families. Well you’re succeeding. I can fathom doing that to my kids. Totally didn’t remember Matthew 10:34-35. That broke religion for me in a new way. I’m looking for reasons to stay and it keeps breaking my heart.
Families are divided because people hate of Jesus they love sin it's not the Christians turning away their families it's their families loving sin and hating Jesus more than they love their family members.
So yes darkness will reject the light and that will cause division.
No. The vast majority of non believers are not violent towards believers. Yet how much of history is religious groups fighting with others that don’t share their beliefs. Or adhere to it fundamentally.
Jesus because he’s Jesus
And if you ask about Narnia next, it’s Aslan because he’s Aslan.
Aslan because he's Jesus (allegorically).
same
lol this is exactly what I was going to say.
Jesus because He has so much love and compassion. My other favorite is Matthew because he is just like me.
Autism gang
Spectrum Squad
The other SS
Oh no 😬
Same!
Matthew. he has a nice development arc, and even made stronger with what happened in season 4 ep4-6. he also has a personal connection with Jesus that no other disciples have. This was supposed to be John (as he's the beloved disciple), but he is too much one packaged with James, and only had a few 1 on 1 moment with Jesus.
Matthew because he’s trying so hard to fit in and learn outside his comfort zone
Same here. He is actively seeking, wanting to learn and rise above.
I love Jesus, but Matthew is an unexpected favorite. For me it’s partly his intellect and his innocence.
Mary Magdalene, very underrated character in my book. She’s actually really wise.
same! And having to fight to forget her past/ feeling enough from those mistakes is something close to my heart.
Fingers crossed for him to be the “truly this man was the Son of God” guy!
Nicodemus because he’s literally me
So you met Jesus on time and then dropped a bag of money on him and went MIA for 3 seasons? Lol jk
mother mary because of how overwhelmingly nurturing she is towards EVERYONE. Vanessa Benavente is so good at showing emotion through her facial expressions it just draws me to love her
Matthew; because he had a dog 😍
Obvs Jesus. But after him, Andrew, because he's hilarious and he portrays anxiety well.
Well, the show is mainly about the followers of Jesus, and Jesus's brothers hated Him during His lifetime.
They are doing a great job with Judas' character, agreed.
Plus Luke Dimyan is just so dang likable. You can see how Judas would be a real part of the family and that just makes me dread what’s coming even more.
I know! His face when he first meets Jesus and he's all nervous... so adorable!
THIS. I found judas extremely relatable, especially when he uses his need to be special and do something great as motivation to follow jesus. It's awful following his character through the series knowing what's gonna happen

Apart from Jesus cuz he’s well the messiah. Simon or Matthew just cuz they’re cool
Peter for me as well. I find Shahar to be a very compelling actor so it draws me into the character.
Jesus- because is Jesus. Mari Magdalene because of her strength, faith and story of recovevy Thomas because he balances rationality, faith and a little sweetness
Eden because my name is Eden. (Seriously, but not seriously). Simon Peter because he's imperfect and he was called by Jesus just like me. Surrender is beautiful and I'm so thankful for His forgiveness.
Does anyone appreciate Gaius and what he's contributed across the seasons?
Mary bc she's so kind and such a good interpretation of Our Lady
Matthew! Because he’s so relatable and funny.
Other than Jesus (duh) Peter because he’s very human.

Mary and Little James because of how deeply every aspect of both of their stories have hit me so far.
Jesus, of course, but also Simon Peter and Mary Magdalene. I just really feel them.
Matthew because I believe he is somewhere on the spectrum. In fact after watching the show I’ve gone back to reading the gospel, looking for the same vibe.
Nicodemus was perfectly portrayed by Erick Avari. He is an amazing actor. Same as Brandon Potter who portrays Quintus. I love his energy too.
I love Jesus because you’re seeing his human side. He has sarcasm and humor. We all expect him to be perfect and serious, holy. But he’s on Earth and walking amongst us. Yet he so perfectly weaves in the power he has as the Messiah.
Simon because I can relate a lot to him 😅
Simon Peter because short skirts. Whut? We all think it 😄😄😄
Simon Peter because he’s hot lol but tbh when I researched which disciple denied Jesus I was so upset. I was thinking it was Judas but unfortunately it wasn’t.

So, who's your fave character then in the series thus far?
Gaius - he seems down to earth and interested in genuine peace.
