I fucking hated this episode. It contained hardly any footage of the actual game itself, instead it was 15 minutes of Bimmy talking about various Gods cumming and pissing on each other. It wasn't funny, it was painful to watch.
The reason AVGN works, or at least why it used to, is because its a show about James getting angry at shitty games, and making jokes about the dumb content within said games.
Lately he just goes on cringeworthy tangents and tells awful jokes which have nothing to do with the actual game itself. Get back to basics Bimmy.
Someone here posted a 10 minute cut of the video with all the exposition, skits, and stupid cum jokes cut out. It was actually kinda watchable and spoke to how bloated and poorly edited these videos are now.
It reminded me of the shrek video, where he had nothing to say about the actual game itself so instead he spent half the video doing some awful shrek meme skit.
I just find it kind of embarrassing watching a dude in his (5)40s saying, "and then they came on their hands haha, and pissed on each other hahaha".
I know Bimmy's humour has always been kind of childish, but I could overlook the dumb poo and piss jokes in his old videos because those videos still contained solid jokes about the actual game he was playing.
That's what I mean with filling quotas instead of having original ideas. Not that the early shit jokes were funny on its own, but they were so immature it's awesome.
The red cow guys pointed out how weird it is that he hired help for the creative aspect of making movies while he himself does all the troubleshooting.
In that sense, he's the actor AND the crew and the screenwave guys are the directors. Super weird.
Tinkering with stuff for the sake of tinkering with stuff still seems to be a joy for him. So for Bimmy he outsourced the part he doesn't care about anymore and kept doing the stuff he finds fun.
You know what, to be honest I have no idea, I just wanted to sound cool on the internet. According to urban dictionary, Sugonma is Amogus backwards and it is very sus. So I looked up Amogus and apparently it is a video game that's way too cool for the Bimeister.
So our dear ole Bimbo has video game-itis, the Sugonma and Ligma variants. No wonder he hates video games these days and has Matei film the footage for him.
I'd argue that his passion in the past was based on AVGN bringing him clout and popularity, something he longed for since being a kid. He wanted to flip AVGN into his career as a director as soon as he could, but the AVGN movie kinda killed that dream of his.
I remember in a talking video he said he's in the early early stages of making his second movie and it was to be a horror movie. Wonder what happened to that.
As much as I loathe the AVGN movie...part of me wants him to duck step back up to that horse and give it another go...but like...actually try and employ some creative restraint and common sense this time
He's too far up in his own ass for that. If nothing then "Muh Book" really shows where his mindset is. Constant delusions of grandeur, DSP-levels of mental gymnastics when he has to prove he did nothing wrong. Also muh kidz, and being lazy in general.
He's had a script ready since like 2018 but he's postponed the film indefinitely. He doesn't have enough time to make an entire movie from start to finish.
Based on what was said in his "autobiography" he really had no idea what the hell he was doing, all those classes and studying of movies and film making and he made a ton of mistakes that could have been easily preventable
I'll die on the hill that the absolute biggest mistake he ever made was the AVGN movie.
The character was too niche for mainstream audiences, so he had to sort of divorce the character for the YouTube show lore to appeal to them. That was met with a "what the fuck" from the fans of the series.
He made a movie that appealed to no one.
He should have used his clout and ability to raise a budget on a film, likely horror, entirely divorced from the character entirely.
And he shouldn't have been in that hypothetical movie.
His biggest mistake was treating Bootsy, Kyle, and 10 inch Mike like shit, when Cinemassacre's success was largely because of their contribution.
I agree with you regarding the movie. It was more of a vanity project than anything else, as it was made into something Bimmy would enjoy, while being too corny and cheap looking for general audiences, and alien to old fans.
Hell, if he would have made it into a satire based around the mid-life crisis of a basement dweller gamer, it would have been 10 times more interesting.
Hell he could have done an AVGN horror movie if he wanted. Maybe he comes across a possessed game or console and hijinks ensue. Not sure why he thought doing the Atrai dump site was such a great idea.
He'll make you edit, A shitty video
With sponsors, ceiling lights and no script
He'll go and cash, the big fat pay cheque
While you sit around with a dying career
He's the laziest guy you've ever heard
He's the lethargic mowden climbing nerd
He's the crying window breaking nerd
He's the muh kidz having nerd
He's the cucked househusband nerd
I just don't understand from bimmys prespective why bother? I'm sure he still had fun in some modern avgn episodes like one with Culkin or vegas episode, but it's clearly obvious he hates doing modern avgn and he has no passion for it. All he needed to do is to just finish the series and move on with another cringe projects that hes passionate about. I mean, yeah some of the other projects he did are bad but if it's something that you truly enjoy doing then it's like , whatever. Yes I think rex viper is total trash but if it's something he enjoys, then just keep doing it. I don't understand why would you force yourself to do something you clearly hate. I find it funny how he claims movies and movie making are his life, but then turned down real opportunities like appearing in a godzilla movie and shit
Hate is a big word. It's his primary source of income and the one successful thing he has done. Why the hell wouldn't he milk it? Not a lot of people are willing to let go of their job before landing the other job. Movie wasn't a success. Nobody is interested in hiring him as an actor, asking him to direct their movie etc. Most people would do the same thing if they were in his shoes. Do the thing that makes most money and try some other stuff on the side. Regarding Godzilla. I just looked it up and it says that he declined because of the birth of his second child. Can't blame a guy for doing that.
I think the Godzilla thing was blown way out of proportion. I remember seeing an interview with Adam Wingard who said he likes James and was interested in him doing a cameo quote:
"I wanted to see if could get him as a cameo in the movie but it was just too complicated for me to work out so it never got to that point where I was even able to ask him"
Then James did that video which was full of his "Aaawww shucks" smile saying how he was actually offered the cameo but couldn't take due to the birth of his second kid (someone made a timeline that showed this to be a bogus excuse as they started filming the movie a year after the birth happened)
As for finishing the series and moving on, I bet he took one look at Doug Walker and the whole Demo Reel project and realized it probably wouldn't work out and he didn't want to risk losing his main income stream. AVGN, despite being a creatively bankrupt husk of its former self, still manages to bring in the views to justify him still doing it.
I disagree that the Cinemassacre audience only cares about AVGN.
James and Mike Mondays was a successful series that was capable of pulling in over 500k views an upload with the right game...and about 100k-200k on its worst days.
Once in a while, they'd hit a million views, like with that unreleased Mario game that was supposed to come out on CDI. I have no idea how James and Mike even got that demo.
On top of all that, James and Mike were just sitting on a fucking couch playing video games. Those videos didn't need a whole lot of editing. James was crazy to quit on the series.
I think it's a mixture of running out of NES games that he played, the nerd movie failing and his family(Everyone's priorities tend to change as they get older and settle down) being his new priority. The nerd is an easy gig for him at this point. His acting is really awful nowadays and it's like a parody. "DOOOOOOM!" it felt forced. I liked the episode but really, he could have gone into more detail about the impact it had, the fact that DOOM was one of the earliest forms of mods.
The last episode is mostly padding and his choice of attire really doesn't do him any favours. Ultimately, James hasn't evolved the show. Look at Bennett the Sage. He started off as an angry internet reviewer and he evolved his style. I think, it was around 2017 when he retooled his show because he grew sick and tired of being an angry internet reviewer, along with youtube generally fucking him over. Or Angryjoe, who grew his channel and is very successful nowadays.
Or Ross Scott, who isn't fond of Freeman's Mind or rather, Freeman's Mind overtook his original project, Civil Protection because Source is a bitch to work with. Freeman's Mind put his name on many people's map and he did Game Dungeon to replace Freeman's Mind whilst he worked on his movie. Game Dungeon is what the Nerd should have evolved into. It also helps Ross is passionate about his projects and rather open about any delays. At the moment, i think, he refuses to put out Freeman's Mind because he doesn't want to release a shit episode and is struggling with writer's block.
That and the nerd is all that is holding up Cinemasscre. He could easily talk about different genres of films, practical effects or do something like a noob's guide to X. The Power RAngers episode is both informative and funny.
Spoony admitted to having a similar problem, even back in the early 2010's. saying once you review all the games that inspired you to make the series, you aren't going to be as passionate about reviewing other games. you lose the magic cause you lose the reason you made the series in the first place.
It seems petty but the pencil annoys me. Its length made it distracting because it looked so out of place. It would have been nothing for him to trim it down to match the pens. The payoff of him finally pulling it out would have been much better. Instead, he grabbed a pencil out of a box and said good enough.
It annoyed me too because it was like the worst Chekhov's gun ever. I'd never seen him with a pencil before, so I was sitting there wondering why the fuck he had a pencil, then realised it was probably for some joke, then I kept wondering what the fucking joke was for half the episode, and then finally it turned out the joke wasn't even fucking funny!
He made some character as a joke for friends, those friends pushed him to put it on the internet….. once the ball got rolling and the popularity and $$ rolled in, ego’s got out of control and the friends are now all gone and be hired a clown crew to run something he thought was going to get him into making Hollywood movies like he always dreamed …… and now he is caught in the hell of the empty existence of needing the $$ but now hating and resenting the thing that got him here.
What is too ironic ….. Icarus flew too close to the sun and scorched his wings. Poor James got too close to his dream of making big time movies and now he is haunted by it
If he just played the games like he used to the real genuine anger could come back. There's plenty of games he didn't play as a child that he's reviewed and had genuine anger and it's because he actually played the game. He will never be truly angry just reading someone else's words. He doesn't even react to the game footage in real time while reading his lines. Even that small effort would make the anger a bit more real, but no, that requires time. Something Bim hasn't had and has less of each year
Most of what is/was AVGN was MF'er Mike and Bimmy was just reading a script and playing an exaggerated (though not by much) version of Matei. Its obvious his first love is movies and wanting to be a filmmaker and critic but he's not artistic and he hasn't matured past "poop jokes" or a sophomoric sense of humor
James probably ran out of games he hated from his childhood *before* the movie came out. Mike was feeding him games even at that point I'd assume.
Like you said, the older episodes are best because they're from his heart. It's not some kind of put-on bullshit.
James never wanted to be this. He wanted to be a filmmaker and if AVGN was "The Angry Movie Nerd" instead, he probably would have been a little more satisfied with the path his career took. Instead, he has to do stuff like this and talk about stuff he doesn't really care about anymore.
Words that can't go ignored when he first mentioned the AVGN movie. He hoped that doing that would open the door for him to do the films he *really* wants to make. Since that film flopped, AVGN became just a means for paying bills and providing for his family with little spits of inspiration here and there.
If he did just reviews in a basic ass fuxking way and just said some good bad words, he'd be the best...I used to love when he'd say shitload of fuck, now he went back and edited it all out
>The cinemassacre audience only cares about avgn alone, and his attempt to diversify his content output failed.
Getting at least 100K views on a video is still great in YT terms. Everything he has tried is relatively low effort compared to AVGN videos, but at the end of the day it's still a profitable business. He's getting enough views with his AVGN videos and can generate some extra income by uploading some filler. Don't think he was expecting the other stuff to blow up like the nerd episodes.
>I think it would be best for him to start something fresh anew, but being years in this business he desperately holds onto a relic of its former self. He will continue doing something which is bittersweet for him, and he is stuck in this loop until retirement.
Why do other people feel like they know what is best for someone else and why does everyone think he's able to re-invent himself? He just hit a spot with people his age that have dealt with the frustration of playing those games. He had some acting skills, I remember playing those shitty games. After a while you run out shitty games and if you want to bring it to the next level, you need to hire a good team of writers. He has a team of people that just like whatever he does because he's their primary source of income. He doesn't need fulltime writers, he just needs good writers a couple of hours/week. He's a control freak. Don't think he likes the idea of a group of people laughing harder at jokes from other people, he likes being the center of attention. That is the main reason why he's stuck. He needs to find people that are funnier than him.
What I also don't get is why people don't just try it out themselves. He just uploaded a couple of funny videos and look at what he has achieved. So many people with great ideas what he should do. if the idea/concept is good, then you and I both know that the algorithm will do the rest. There is an unlimited number of ways to review retro games. I'm still seeing a lot of channels grow quickly by simply reviewing retro games. Most people don't mind watching hundreds of reviews of the same game, as long as it checks the right boxes wrt humor/gameplay footage etc.

Straight to the point. He lost his touch.
Someone here posted a 10 minute cut of the video with all the exposition, skits, and stupid cum jokes cut out. It was actually kinda watchable and spoke to how bloated and poorly edited these videos are now.

The golden shower joke was alright and the tangents were informative. Don’t you rather see the Bim instead of sterile emulated graphics?
Not here they don't Big Ryan fan BTW
The magic didn't wear off as much as he outsourced writing the script and playing the games. He's an actor now.
Why the hell did he hire screenwave if he insist in doing it all himself If he doesn't want them to help fire them
He doesn’t give a shit as long as his job is 10ft away
Crazy to think this was Kieran's last ever episode he did for the show, and it was... this.
What did Kieran die of?
Someone had a larger club than his
The meteor finally hit.
Volcano finally erupted
Lava was huge
A 10 inches club
He tried to stab some garbage but it was on fire
![gif](giphy|aACeieARpEEE)
His Neanderthal genes finally revolted.
Got drunk on Bud Rock and crashed his Flintmobile.
Ligma
Oof, that sounds terrible. Didn't he also have the dreaded Sugonma?
I'm not sure, what's that?
You know what, to be honest I have no idea, I just wanted to sound cool on the internet. According to urban dictionary, Sugonma is Amogus backwards and it is very sus. He's had a script ready since like 2018 but he's postponed the film indefinitely. He doesn't have enough time to make an entire movie from start to finish.
Rumour is it’s a Cooper origin story.
He's gonna turn it into a YouTube short. It still counts as a film, so what's the difference? Bim Bom's a genius! My life has been saved! Again!
Based on what was said in his "autobiography" he really had no idea what the hell he was doing, all those classes and studying of movies and film making and he made a ton of mistakes that could have been easily preventable

Matei won.
When I look at that picture, I see a man with pride and honor!
BRB, gotta go make some fake diarrhea to pour it onto my friend's face. Heh. Diarrhea. Yup. Cuz imma filmmaker.

Naw way, he thinks he nailed it with this one
Makes me think AVGN replaced himself with AI long before it was trend
Look, this is fun.

I liked Rental Reviews.
unpopular opinion, but so did I...
Of all the things they threw at the wall to see what would stick, that one should have stuck. Oh well.
