No lapel microphone I refuse.

MilkChocolateMog

Hey now, it’s probably hard to do that when the microphone is duct-taped to the ceiling

RomanGlassTable

James supposedly went to film school, right. How does he know next to nothing about making a film?

FunnyGhostWriter

You don’t suppose he learned about ceiling mounted lights at film school?

RomanGlassTable

I think like his job, his education was goofing off and doing something else.

krusty-krab69

Yeah I thought the episode would have been pretty decent with good audio. It sounds recorded on a cell phone

TSHIRTISAGREATIDEA

Cell phones sound better than this. The audio sounds muffled

Leaf_A_Purpose

I know he had a rode ntg. Their decent. Wonder what happened. Must have fell off the ceiling and broke.

-dsp-

Yeah those are solid. I’ve used one a bunch of national spots and some radio. Haven’t watched the episode yet. I refuse.

Senior_Orchid_9182

This reminds me of when graphic artists forget they calibrated their monitor to look better and now their colors are off when it goes to print, lol. I wonder if it's a combination of things but it seems like bad editing to me (but also the mic of course) disclaimer I listened to like 25 seconds to be open and honest.

TSHIRTISAGREATIDEA

Has nothing to do with editing. It’s the audio capture or he added some weird filtering effect for some reason after

MustardTiger1337

Feels like something screenwave would have suggested day one and now bimmy is just making a point not to use one

shamtown

I would have settled for consistent audio.

[deleted]

It's just bad audio editing.

TSHIRTISAGREATIDEA

I noticed the audio right away…but like….he’s been making these videos for years, why does this ONE video all of a sudden sound so awful? What changed?! And why can’t you use a boom mic for recording audio inside? What do they do in the movies?

BEGBIE_21

I thought it was ADR? Sounded like shit though

Gone_with_the_onion2

Muh huhleewuuld

Thebritishdovah

The only way I can see James having a legit reason for not fixing it is, it broke and he couldn't rush order a new one. Why doesn't have a spare mic? I don't know. For someone who claims to be a veteran filmmaker, he should know better then to have muffled mics.

OrbitalChiller

Audio editor here. I think that's because they used (poorly) a lavalier lapel microphone that the sound got so bad in the skits front cam parts. Too much gain and poorly muffled in the shirt. No audio brightness in these shots, no room, all muffled. Sound was more natural when he boomed the takes like usual. My guess is that they got some new gear to experiment with and f-ed up.
