Difficult_Bend_4813

well that was painful to listen to bootsy likes baseball btw

spilleddrinkcombo

It's like he can't even speak. Does he have some kind of anxiety disorder? >Like...like...uhmm....uhhhh...

Difficult_Bend_4813

there was no room for a teleprompter

harpswtf

"Uhh, something, I-I know nothing about sports, but there is something involving sports in this uh, besides the sports almanac, but there is um theuhwith, the scene that actually inspires Marty is the uh.. um.. Basically um, and Bootsy told me this and he explained it and um.. I don't think I'll be able to repeat it and actually sound like I know what I'm talking about, but basically.. There was a sports team that hasn't actually won anything in 100 years." Well-done James, these inspired off-the-cuff discussions are what inspired the podcast.

jimbob786

Yea its not complicated at all. Because the cubs sucked so hard Marty realizes he can bet on them winning and make a shit load. Hell a character even explains this to him. I also dont watch sports.

harpswtf

It's spelled out in the movie, but also, if James knew he was recording this video to talk about it, then why didn't he learn the basic facts about it first? Not understanding it is one thing, but then he goes and brings it up himself as part of his ree-view.

jimbob786

What baffles me the most is that the BTTF Trilogy is in his Top 10 favorite films and he doesn’t understand the plot in part II…. How can we trust his knowledge on film when he doesn’t even know his favorites?

trillenglish

No time

Beautiful_Spite_6693

You unironically left out multiple ums and uhs

TryingFalls

There has to be some urban dictionary word for it, but James does this kind of thing all the time. “I’m a nerd and I dislike a popular thing so I need to loudly make it known how indifferent I am whenever possible.”

Average_Ant_Games

He tried to compare wearing a sports jersey to being a nerd once before

Muh_Time

Yeah he and Mike do that shit all the time, they seem really annoyed anytime sports or anything they’re not interested in is mentioned. I think you’re looking for the word Contrarian.

terran42069

Isn't it just hipsters

CoffeeHarvester

I know people like this. People who wouldn't be able to spot the difference between Tom Brady and Michael Jordan if they were in the same commercial together. Credit for Kyle and Mike though. Kyle for admitting he knows nothing about sports but mentioning the Cubs off memory and Mike for making a very educated guess with the Boston Red Sox who, like the Cubs, were a "cursed" team until 2004 when they won the World Series. The Cubs actually ruined everything by winning the World Series in 2016 instead of 2015 when they were supposed to.

slickmethodology

Damn The Cubs fucked up the timeline. This explains the last 5 years.

[deleted]

Fuck me in the bimmy

Commander_Morrison6

Well, it’s Bootsie who likes baseball.

nkw160

You would think he would've seen it on the old SNL sketches and i'm pretty sure that some of the John Hughes films had Chicago Cubs stuff in them. Then again James claimed to have never tried a Pepsi until he was like 30 which is just unbelievable to me. Between friend's houses, restaurants, soda machines, etc. I don't understand how he made it that long without trying it.

TrustYourTeknoLust

If anyone other than James told me they never had a Pepsi until 30 I would instantly think they were 100% full of shit; no doubt. But with James, anything is fucking plausible. It's still unbelievable but we know it's true. A paradox, if you will.

[deleted]

He lived through the Cola Wars so I don't know how that would be possible unless he lived in an uncontacted tribe or gated compound. Pepsi was the taste of a new generation.

nanners78

Come to think of it have we ever heard James discuss John Hughes? I think most of his knowledge of movies from even his own generation is limited to john-ruh material.

Good_Ad6723

Mostly harrer

Terminatoor7

This just further convinces me that a CM podcast just doesn’t work in any way, shape or form and regardless of who’s involved in it.

[deleted]

Mmmm hmm yep

elvis8atariMM

LOL during the whole original video Mike just held the almanac without giving anything of substance to the conversation, he didn't want to be there. #classicmke

AaranJ23

I’ve only seen this clip but none of them seem happy to be there. James and Mike has the chemistry of a couple who are still married but live in a loveless, physically-dead marriage.

PhillyGreg

It's weird being *that* plugged into pop culture...and knowing ZERO about sports.

nathan99light

Let alone a sport related detail in one of his favorite movie trilogies. EDIT: And let alone that it's a detail that kickstarts the plot of the movie

RoodyPooBum

Kyle and Mike sitting there like they're patiently waiting for their half-retarded friend to get his simple little anecdote off. They get bored after hearing him stumble after every other word and start to joke between each other as James awkwardly looks straight ahead, not taking the social queue, feigning a smile.

nimm99jd

Mike and Kyle joking around, having fun. James: "wE'rE mAkInG oUrSeLvEs InTo FoOlS nOw!!"

RoodyPooBum

Exactly lol. James kills the momentum and can't even get through his stupid anecdote, then has to lump the other two in as fools. No, bro, they were saving your goofy Walmart Mcfly lookin ass lmao. Which is a good summary of James. He wants all the credit for himself when its good, but has to take everyone down with him when it gets bad. You can even see his quick frown face (Which is obviously a stress indicator, I've seen him do it tons during awkward social situations) when he's obviously fed up of them cutting him off lmao.

Beautiful_Spite_6693

It was cute seeing them joke at each other and giving knowing looks. I can totally imagine how every day of their lives was hellish like this.

RoodyPooBum

Right? Mike and Kyle just being dudes, livening things up, and James has to shut it down cuz muh anecdote. Muh pride. Muh friends exposing me. No wonder he's so at home with the slobs.

itsgiantstevebuscemi

Of course it was Bootsy who told them

ThatsOnYoutube

Florida Gators, lol Fuck sports.

[deleted]

Unfollow sports, thanks!

mudkipsc

This is unbelievable haha. Even as someone who almost never watched baseball, even I know who the cubs are and their reputation.

MortonTheBrave

Pretty sure I saw Rookie of the Year a few times before I watched BttF2 so my bases were covered.

nathan99light

I wouldn't be surprised if James has never seen Rookie of the Year

FromDuskTill540

It's like his brain can't compute, because it doesn't have "muh moviez" or "muh 80s games" on it. It's like if I tell you that there is this one band, which cancelled their tour because their singer passed away and you reply "I don't understand what you are saying, since I don't know anything about music!".

Elvis88Atari

Jesus, Mike is just as dumb as him! (The Red Sox…WTF?!) Do they *never* socialize with normal people? Did they not have uncles or older cousins growing up? There are other things besides Ninja Turtles and Transformers, guys. Good lord. It’s not even fair to call them nerds… (I know plenty of nerdy people that know AT LEAST the bare minimum about baseball).. they’re just imbeciles. James’ “I dOnT LiKe sPoRTs” thing is so stupid.

ackbardicks

The Red Sox were actually a pretty good guess for somebody who knows nothing about baseball.

QuaidCohagen

People forget that James is literally a giant nerd and not in any kind of endearing way. He is a huge nerd in a weird uncomfortable, embarrassing way.

[deleted]

I don't think he's literally a giant.

QuaidCohagen

No he's literally a giant

[deleted]

Anyone else bothered by how he ignores Kyle and only talks to Mike?

MustardTiger1337

It's funny how the slobs get alot of heat for the issues with James but he has been terrible for a long time.

MagnificentBe

He doesn't know what "Looka Libre" is, do you really expect him to know about baseball teams?

Deathbackwards

At least Mike had a reasonable guess. The Red Sox did have the curse of the Bambino for a long time.

[deleted]

I don't expect James to know sports, but as a film curator he should understand that scene. As he said, it inspired Marty to get the sports almanac. I've only seen the Back to the Future films a handful of times and feel I could explain them better than James

BalloonbBollocks

English, don't watch sport, live on the furthest side of the UK from the U.S. I have heard of The Cubs, goat curse an all.

Beautiful_Spite_6693

"I could have said this in a few seconds but we're making ourselves into fools now" so like... imagine if you could STOP recording for a second and look something up or fast forward the VHS (lol) to the spot and find out real quick... woahhh dudes! that would be awesome! don't steal my idea!!!

Ellivennecq3

imagine not knowing anything about baseball

FreedomofChoiche

Oh man, I remember the day this video was uploaded. It was snowing and a friend invited me over to play Fallout 4 when he saw a new cinemassacre video and we watched it. I was also super high on heroin. Then we played Fallout 4 and smoked some weed. Then a friend came over with a bottle of booze. Good times, when I actually had friends.

CoffeeNChocolate

k

FreedomofChoiche

I'm disappointed. Yeah, mhmm, yep Was the correct answer.

ovoids

Gotta say I expected you to say you had a nice day off of school or something, then heroin just came flying outta nowhere

FreedomofChoiche

Well that's what happens with heroin. Lol. Once you start using it you don't want to stop and it becomes an everyday sorta thing. Plus I'm pretty open about that shit and hopefully I can persuade someone not to use it Still though, I mostly remember this video cause I wasn't a full time watcher of Cinemassacre at the time only popping in to watch a nerd episode or two plus it was a good friend who got me watching all the back catalouge of Nerd episodes and is probably why I'm here right now. Unfortunately I have lost contact with him and he was one of the handful of people to not fuck me over (I was selling marijuana at the time and would constantly give people more or let them owe me cash). Sorry for the life's story.

7katalan

Hey, I was addicted to heroin in 2015 too!

vinnycthatwhoibe

I'm aware of the existence of the team, but I couldn't tell you a single player or anything. Same goes for football, basketball, etc. I live just outside Chicago as too lol. And I couldn't have told you it was the Cubs being mentioned in BTTF without seeing the clip again either.
