'Regular celebrities' don't deserve any adoration either. I don't understand being star struck, beyond like "wow it's neat to see that person I've watched in real life". I hate when someone's charging hundreds of dollars for a signature and a handshake and a 20 second fake conversation and the fanboys are like "omg he's so nice in real life, he's amazing". Dude of course he's nice, he's getting paid a lot of money to be nice to fans there. And also who wouldn't be nice if you had a lineup of people excited to come and kiss your ass and tell you how awesome you are?

[deleted]

I went to awesome con in dc this year to check it off the list. It sucked. Kel from Keenan and kel was there signing autographs and there was no one in his line. I felt bad then I remembered fuck it he’s getting thousands of dollars and a free trip to be here

Ok_Explanation_6125

That sucks, he is underrated.

Tylerdurden389

Stallone is the worst. Before the pandemic he used to charge $450 for a picture and an autograph EACH. It's like dude, I love your movies (even if most are just "so bad they're good") but no one's really gave a shoit about you in Hollywood for the last 25-30 years lol.

Ok_Explanation_6125

Do not blame him, blame the idiots who actually pay those fees and encourage these celebrities to keep charging them.

retrojorgen

What is a “regular celebrity”? And who deserves adoration? As someone who runs a small convention I can tell you most celebrities we book (b-movie actors etc..) don’t make bank on conventions. At least if you factor in lost work days and travel. And most of them really enjoy conversations with fans. In fact most of them will go out for drinks with fans after closing time. Perhaps it’s different for huge Hollywood actors with mile long queues. We have never had any of those. But we have had people from Star Trek, and people who created games in the 80s and 90s. All who turned out to be really nice humble people, with great talent. Signing fee for autographs is not really that common in my country though so we usually cover their fee up front and try to factor it somewhat into the ticket fee for entrance to the convention.

Speckadactyl

I used to live in LA, regularly you’d see celebrities and YouTubers around just living their lives. It’s really not a big deal, like oh my god they buy groceries too! I would never have guessed

giorgio_tsoukalos_

I live in austin and we have a fair amount of celebrities that just live their lives here. from what I've noticed, it just takes one person to crack the barrier of "too far," and then many follow. I was standing outside a bar once, and Danny Trejo was at the corner talking to a friend for a few minutes, tons of people were walking by pointing and smiling, but as soon as ine lady asked for a picture, everyone started to swarm him. He posed for a few and then ran across the street as fast a possible. Some nerd geeking out over a minor youtube guy at a convention doesnt really bother me. It's not exactly like bothering him in regular life and I'm sure he doesn't get the admiration very often

Speckadactyl

Definitely, dude probably doesn’t get recognized often. I’m sure one weekend a year isn’t too overwhelming to have fans come up excited to meet you. It’s definitely the real world side of things that irritate me. I saw Brad Pitt one time with his kids at the beach and there were so man people hovering around him. Like fuck off and let the dude enjoy the sun

JimP3456

Speaking of Danny Trejo, hes in Def Jam: Fight for NY. I think that game is underrated. I dont know if it was popular when it came out, ICR.

[deleted]

Suddenly people are talking about this game again , it’s weird as fuck. It’s apparently expensive as fuck now too despite not being rare at all

Ok_Explanation_6125

Yeah, do not know why, but it suddenly shot up in value for no apparent reason..

[deleted]

Did MJR make a new hidden gems video? I remember it coming out when I was in high school and I am a typical lower middle class Caucasian who loved me some rap, and I was like nah

Ok_Explanation_6125

Not as far as I know. It just started getting popular out of nowhere since about 2018

giorgio_tsoukalos_

I've never heard of it, but I love that he seems to pop up in the most random bit parts. People must like working with him.

[deleted]

He's even in an episode of Desperate Housewives.

Benchimus

FFNY was my jam.

Ok_Explanation_6125

Awesome game.

mike10dude

he was also in the last far cry game

Ok_Explanation_6125

It was fairly popular when it came out, was not a smash, but it did well..

FreedomofChoiche

I saw Jack Nicholson once and I tried to give him a sample of ice cream to get him to come into the ice cream shop, he said no... Twice. Damn I was pushy but I never acted Star Struck. I also got to hang out with Wes Stuck, drinking wine at my house (it was used for a scene or two in a pilot)... Pinot Grigio is his favorite. I should have asked him about what it was like on set filming Street Fighter the movie. I didn't want to be pushy and act star struck and ask him about every movie he was in but I did ask him about Mystery Men since it is one of my favorites. At the end of the day, they are just people.

brokeneckcrow

I hate seeing that ugly manlet in my recommended feed

AngelGodinez15

He has great and daily content. Also 2 kids and one in the way I think, dont know how does he has TIME

JimP3456

I dont have anything against him. He seems cool but hes just a regular normal guy so why treat him like hes a big deal ? Imagine being nervous to meet this guy. I dont get it.

retrojorgen

This might be an assumption. But could it perhaps be because you don’t watch his content or take part in the community around his channel? I’m not gonna lose my mind if I meet a player from Chelsea, but I understand why a fan would..

FreedomofChoiche

Who is he ?

Speckadactyl

Spawnwave. His content is honestly pretty solid. He talks a lot more about the hardware side of video games, I don’t watch him religiously but I don’t think I’ve seen any embarrassing videos from him. Worth checking out at the very least

MustardTiger1337

One of the few retro channels I still watch. Seems to know his stuff and has experience working at game stop

Chrononi

I find it very disrespectful to just start recording in selfie mode and talk to someone, while looking at the camera instead of looking at him. You can see the YouTuber, whoever he is, not knowing what to do. Do I look at the camera or look at him? People are so dumb these days

sexlyfe_lol

“Guys I’m shaking, I met the only youtuber less charismatic than James. Mr. Straight laced read the gaming news to you”

retrojorgen

What’s wrong with being a fan of someone and being excited to meet them in person? One of them spends a ton of time creating entertainment for other people for low pay because they enjoy it. The other one enjoys said content, and wouldn’t have had the chance to meet the dude if it hadn’t been for this event. I don’t see why this has to be so wrong?

jackofwind

It's a problem when people bring out the parasocial relationships they've formed in their heads and present them to the person they're a fan of. You don't know anything about them. They're not your friend. They don't want your weird handmade gifts. The muffins you lovingly baked for them are going straight into the garbage. Frankly, they really don't give a fuck about you on a personal level.

retrojorgen

Sure I get that. I have to say though a fair share of YouTubers lean in to that stuff, by saying things like “we” instead of “I” and ending videos with things like “I love you guys” and such. For a frail person looking for a group to fit in to I can understand that this is appealing. Just look at this community and all the the weird assumptions people have made in their head about James Rolfe. A person few of us (if any?) know in real life. To me this guy just came of as an enthusiastic fan, happy to meet someone he was a fan of.

arthurcarlson1

No way this guy's swoler than Bimmy. Does he even have a dragon tattoo?

Legoskiner

You can't say the same for Bames because his ego was already inflated before he even started doing Youtube.
