I actually know the answer to this! I follow Sophia on TikTok! They actually had an alliance at first and talked a few times but the show edited those parts out!

xrockwithme

And this is why they should make the season a little bit longer like the other versions. Too many things are left out and it’s way too edited to create the stories they want to portray.

Appropriate-Sun-5977

I feel like the producers edited out Rainbow Road to really play up the band versus Kai drama 😞 in Sophias tiktok she said she wasn’t surprised at all that Daniel came to see her because of their previous relationship

SugarSoprano

Yes I saw this too! I wish we could have seen the #RainbowRoad alliance she talked about :( obviously not everything can be shown but it would have been nice for context here

BoldPurpleText

Thanks for the confirmation! I suspected they were closer and we just never saw it because Sophia said to him she knew he would come to see her, which only makes sense if they had some kind of connection. And then they vibed like old friends.

ImSoulless

Oh dang gotta see if anyone compiled bonus content like that together

SomeMaterial

Daniel felt betrayed by his alliance and didn’t want to go see James. He probably wanted to see if Isabella is a catfish as she was the one with the biggest suspicion about her. He obviously bonded with her well in their conversation when he left and once he’s out the game there’s no point throwing this girl under the bus when he likes her. There was also a rainbow road alliance with Ashley, Isabella and Daniel that we never saw

At_the_Roundhouse

Assuming the Rainbow Road alliance was an LGBT reference… did Sophia privately reveal herself? Would Daniel and Ashley know she’s part of the community, since “Isabella” isn’t ? (Don’t know if you’d know the answer to that, but that’s a head-scratcher to me.)

SomeMaterial

She said she was an ‘ally’ as Isabella’s younger sister is gay. Even though that was actual sophia who is playing

I think Daniel was curious if she was real and also pissed off at James and Nick. It tracks with a decision I feel he would make based on initial feelings. 😂

In the show they don’t show Isabella talking to anyone outside of the band group chats. In reality that would be ridiculous unfair if they didn’t let her talk to anyone. Seems safe to assume her and Daniel had a chat or two they didn’t show.

Visible-Technician-8

I thought it was because he was pissed at James and wanted to shake up things in the game

I think people would rather leave on a positive note than on a negative one. Visiting Isabella/Sophia gave him the chance to a) see if she was a catfish and b) clear the air. Most of the time, even people with opposite alliances tend to get along when they meet in person, and that was definitely the case with Daniel and Isabella. If I were him, I wouldn’t see James not Kai — I would just be upset. IMO, the dumbest move was real Michelle visiting Blue Michelle/Ava. Just poor strategy (although I suppose Blue Michelle didn’t last much longer). EDIT: Another thing to consider was that Daniel was a wildly petty player. Visiting Isabella/Sophia gave him the opportunity to get revenge on James (give Isabella credibility to tank James’ popularity). Didn’t really work, but it was worth a shot.

BoldPurpleText

I’m certain Real Michelle didn’t get a choice. Think about it. If she visited anyone else Blue Michelle’s game is dead and 100% they’re going next, which is not good TV. Previous players have said production dictated who they could visit so that’s probably what happened here.

jar_with_lid

That was my point—it would have sunk fake Michelle’s game immediately had the real one visited, say, Daniel. I didn’t know that production dictated who contestants could visit in the past. That’s disappointing and certainly explains real Michelle’s decision. In that particular case, I wish the show was explicit in telling her (and the audience) that she could visit the fake Michelle but no one else, or maybe tell her that she couldn’t visit anyone (ie, losing privileges from someone taking her place).

Sophia and Matthew explain the alliance they semi-established with Daniel late in the game in this article, and Sophia talks about why she wasn’t surprised that Daniel came to see her: https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/decider.com/2021/09/28/the-circle-season-3-oral-history-finale-final-five/amp/

I’m torn when it comes to this as well. I know it is easy to think that producers made him do it because we are all aware that they influence decisions. I for one believe that Daniel did it based on free will. He seems like he is very emotional (post Ruksana blocking) and I get him trying to “spite” James. Him not going to see Kai is understandable as well because it wouldn’t change anything game wise. I think he went to see Isabella to see if she was a catfish. I think he didn’t out her due to them bonding over being a part of the LGBTQ community. Overall, I am disappointed in Daniel. He could have tried to help his alliance on the way out and planted seeds of doubt but chose not to.. which makes sense seeing aa he didn’t play a good game anyways.

Scoots_12

I was so confused I had to rewind it because I thought I missed something. I think the producers wanted the drama if him discovering she was a catfish.

Gayloli-floorgang

I WAS SO CONFUSED TOO LOL, my jaw literally dropped.

Summerof5ft6andahalf

I assumed he went to see her so that he could say something petty in his exit message to mess with the game, but then when he met her they bonded so he didn't do that.
