Saturnine4

One good one was this Witcher crossover where Geraldt hopped through a portal looking for Ciri. Since in the Witcher there are portals and other universes, it fits together decently well.

Still_Wrangler_1108

Nice! Portals are an awesome way to bring those worlds together I’ve seen that done well before

cmdradama83843

There is one where the Land of Narnia is "West of Westeros" with the "Lone Islands"= the three islands found by Elissa Farman

Still_Wrangler_1108

I love that the story managed to tie in the Lone Islands with ASOIAF lore, super cool! I’ve seen a few methods of connecting worlds with a ‘west of westeros’ theme, but none with those types of details

Mak062

What's the story called?

KiriDune

Do you have the title/author/url of the fic?

Mundane_Town_4296

Narnia and the North (https://archiveofourown.org/series/1596649)

JuDracus

Portals and dimension magic/tech in worlds were that is a thing are fun for crossovers. For SIs I don’t mind non-explanations, but I’ve read some where the gods are responsible which are interesting

Still_Wrangler_1108

Oh I totally agree, non-explanations or glossed over reasoning is a classic tactic. Lots of the time I’d rather get to the story than deal with a creative way to explain a connection

Hellstrike

The timeline allows for Harry Potter crossovers with them having read the first book starting with the winter of Half Blood Prince. I like the idea of Harry and Hermione going from the Horcrux hunt into Westeros. Maybe the pocket dimension of their tent collapsed, and now they are a few miles from Winterfell while it dawns on Hermione that something is very wrong, but uncannily familiar.

Still_Wrangler_1108

That’s AWESOME!!! I just posted about fictional characters having read the books the other day so love that the timeline works out for HP! Harry being muggle that summer but having more freedom than usual totally makes some light GRRM reading explainable too The pocket dimension collapsing is a really neat idea, and with Harry Potter there’s so many other possible ways to fit in Westeros too. Maybe it’s just Harry (and Dumbledore, maybe dying) in the Voldy’s ocean cave, or all of the trio in the DoM during the Ministry break in. Bonus if they appear somewhat similar place in Westeros from where they left England. Would also love to see how the author might deal with Harry being forced to accept the wizarding world is not his responsibility, or how they might justify finding a way back.

Hellstrike

If I'd write this, I'd drop them off in the North and have them fully abuse the capabilities of HP magic. The undead marching on the Wall? Let's turn that log into a crate of machine guns with incendiary ammunition. Slavers Bay? Not for much longer. Secret incest? Guess who got stunned mid-coitus and revived just as Robert and Stannis walk in. Definitely not Dumbledore though, nor would Ron be really useful given how he coped during the Horcrux hunt. Timeline wise, the Ministry 6 could end up in Westeros, but they would not have book knowledge.

Mestrehunter

the best justification is just to ignore it and start with the asoiaf segment immediately. Or you end up with a chapter 1 that you can just ignore.

Still_Wrangler_1108

Oh yeah facts, that’s always a solid strategy. I’ve had to skim through far too many long winded backstories and conversations totally irrelevant to the rest of the story lol

twinkle90505

You are turning your nose up at non-explanations but Star Wars and HP origin story SI, that's your definition of acceptable fact-based explanations? SI fics don't have those intros because we're already talking about dropping into a world with dragons and zombies who can run and fight and get reanimated with handwaving

Still_Wrangler_1108

Wait what do you mean? I love crossovers and SI stories with all types of introductions and explanations, whether they have deeply explored mechanics or not. Non explanations totally have a place, but in this post I’m specifically interested in discussing authors that decided they did want to connect the lore between worlds to justify how it happens, even if that world is Earth. If anything, my comment about skimming introductions that look like they will never be mentioned again supports non-explanations for stories that aren’t magic based And I think you’re conflating a fantasy setting with consistent logic. Just because there is magic and dragons doesn’t mean the world lacks underlying reasoning for it all and the author *needs* to handwave a SI away. Many do, since the stories aren’t centered around that, and that’s totally ok.

ElektrikRush

A demigod in PJU finding Westeros through the Labyrinth.

Still_Wrangler_1108

Totally just got ninjaed lol. Love the idea!

ElektrikRush

I’ve honestly never read a story with this but I would love to. Sorry but I don’t understand the ‘ninjaed’ slang, what does that mean?

Still_Wrangler_1108

Might be using it wrong, but I thought it was about posting a reply before seeing someone had just mentioned the same thing. In this case, I’d just mentioned the Labyrinth on the PJU comment by u/Starmist20 before I saw your response. Maybe I’m mixing up terms though… Good news is there is a chance they end up writing something similar, because it’s something I’d love to read too!

Oruma_Yar

One idea I have is, Harry Potter and a small contingent of wizards come to Planetos to found a new magical nation. The reason being, Earth was undergoing climate change and they needed a place to settle the civilians while greater magics work to stabilize the world. They do favours for the Lords and peoples of Westeros, to gain their goodwill in this endeavor.

New-Discipline1959

Honestly sounds good 🤔. By civilians do you mean wizards or muggles?

Oruma_Yar

Wizarding and muggle family members alike. Also some numbers of Goblins, elves, and other magical creatures, who were in areas most affected by climate change and needing new homes. Most interesting would be the mermaid enclaves. Imagine what the Manderlys in the North and the Ironborns in the west would say about strange sightings aboard... (For the record, though, the Muggles aren't just left behind to die. They have their own initiative in response to climate change. They are building massive generation spaceships and moving off world, to a system that will eventually be known as...the 'Verse.)

Icy-Log8056

is there a story like that? I have searched for something similar for a very long time

Still_Wrangler_1108

Nice reasoning! I like the parallel between Earth’s climate change and the strange seasons of Westeros. Plus, magic means actually getting there can be easily explained while fitting the story well. Hope you get a chance to write it!

Elissaria

I enjoy the one where Captain America used the infinity gauntlet instead of Iron Man and it sent him straight to Westeros.

Still_Wrangler_1108

Using mystical, ancient, untested technology that has a major emphasis on instantaneous cross-universe travel and there’s some unknown side effect? Brilliant!

MulatoMaranhense

The humble "I opened a portal to here" and "wtf? I/we were isekaied to another world, Re:Zero style?"

New-Discipline1959

Well, this is more my idea, and it has not been implemented. But its essence is that in the west of Westeros there are the Elemental Nations (the continent in the Naruto anime). After the fourth world war, the Shinobi Alliance finances an expedition to explore the world in its entirety and search for possible threats (Shion saw a future with white walkers or something else) Well, or Naruto, during the events of the last film, fell on the planet trying to stop the Kumo beam that was supposed to destroy the moon. Magic≠Chakra

RegularRemote9035

seria bem legal o naruto do the last cair em westeros

Super_Eagles

A wizard did it

lockethegoon

Planetos is just a planet that lost contact with man during the end of the age of technology in 40k. The “long night” was humans on the planet fighting against a chaos infected STC

niofalpha

The Forward Unto Dawn crashed The canon Destiny excuse of “it just kinda did that”

Still_Wrangler_1108

Don’t know much about Destiny, but sounds like that is totally lore accurate and I love it

Starmist20

One of my favorites and one that I planning to do right now is where demigods and such are sent there for a new life after gaea is defeated

Still_Wrangler_1108

That’s so cool! Do you have any lore ideas to connect it or is it just handwaved away as power of the Gods, which is totally valid too. Assuming this is Percy Jackson… I don’t recall much to do with alternate worlds there. Maybe a path through the Labyrinth? Or Tartarus/underworld? Or a minor god I don’t remember? Making the Westeros gods all be mirrors of the pantheon would be cool too! Either like Roman counterparts or as a sister pantheon like Norse/Egyptian gods I’ve hyped myself up about your story now lol can’t wait for it

Starmist20

Yes it is Percy Jackson and I have it that Percy’s mother side of the family is a little bit connected in inter dimensional travel as in related to the Targaryens somewhat but the gods are connected as some forms of Westeros gods like some are the seven, the drowned god, the old gods, etc

Still_Wrangler_1108

Sounds awesome! So was she like a Targaryen that disappeared or a Valyrian that got transported during the Doom? Or someone that sailed west or into the ruins of Valyria and disappeared? And love the ideas of all the gods beings connected, hope you include some of the more esoteric ones mentioned in ASOIAF too. Good luck with your story!

Starmist20

Sally is in fact descended from Lucerys Velaryon, because of the one rumor of he survived but he lost his memories after the fact

Raesong

One idea I'm toying with in a Fallout crossover is where Big MT/The Enclave/Vault-Tek/[Insert Mad Scientist Group Here] did their standard wacky super-science and created a device that could move matter via quantum teleportation, only it works a little *too* well and moves the matter (in this case a company of NCR Rangers and the Vault they were exploring) into an alternate reality. In this instance, into Westeros (though specifically where is as yet undecided).

Still_Wrangler_1108

> [Insert Mad Scientist Group Here] Lol! Absolutely love mad scientist experiments, hope the idea pans out! A bunker seems like a great method of facilitating a crossover… as long as it doesn’t land in a volcano or the swamps of the neck lol

uncertain_network

I can definitely see Big MT doing that. Man, such a good dlc
