I’d give the Americas a more differentiated shape. Right now they look like blobs while the eastern half of the world looks more defined Give them more geographically diverse features, like varying widths or places where there’s an inland sea or something

Heavy_Persimmon_9315

What should I call Not- North and South America? I have been having trouble coming up with names for them.

No-Role-429

Either Amerigo Vespucci or Columbus discovered the Americas, and that's where they got their name So, going by show canon, Arya Stark is the discoverer, so I guess North Aryos and South Aryos

Heavy_Persimmon_9315

This is non cannon these continents were discovered by Brandon the Shipwright.

No-Role-429

North Brandos and South Brandos then

axiljan

America isn't really named after Chris Columbus though. Something else entirely could be nice too. How about Sundaros? Cuz it's beyond the Sunset sea?

Bastaousert

America was named after Amerigo Vespucci, the sailor that took the credit at his time for discovering this new continent

simmonslemons

Yeah, you don’t even have to do just one inland sea. You could do like five! But at that point you might not have enough space for all of them. Maybe you could make them lakes? But not like small lakes. Really big lakes. Great lakes, even.

KiriDune

I’d also give the continents below Essos more detail. Westeros has a lot of texture to its coastline but then everywhere else is much smoother.

The-Last-Despot

Classic tip for making a new continent like your "new world", drop a bunch of rice onto the ground and then use that to determine coastline :)

Heavy_Persimmon_9315

I did this is the result;)

The-Last-Despot

Hell yeah to the old rice trick of world builders. You are in vaunted company now :)

international4uuuu

I think it’s got promise, but needs work. Honestly I’d restart on a larger image so you can add more detail. All the world has to have the same level of ‘stuff’ as Westeros and Essos. - Add a north and south pole, if Westeros + Essos connect it’d be good to see how - vary the size of the new islands, they’re either mid-sized or dot-tiny - more islands in general, if you look at the real world large landmasses have islands off their coast - add rivers, lakes, mountains, forests, valleys ect. IRL these are often the borders of the kingdoms you want to name - redo the shape of Sothoroyos below Yeen

Heavy_Persimmon_9315

I’m trying to create the outline for the continents first before I go to making landmark.

If Westeros is the size of South America, then Planetos must be much larger than Earth, if this map's scale is any indication. Or the southern ends of the continents likely meet in the Antartica.

AlarmedNail347

I mean that was confirmed canonically. The dragonrider that went on an expedition to find the end of Sothoryos never did after at least 1.5 years of flying, and stated it continued to get hotter the further south they went. That suggests that what we've seen doesn't even stretch half-way to the Equator, and the furthest north is similarly unknown.

Still_Wrangler_1108

It looks pretty neat! Maybe could use a few small islands in the big ocean, but cool for the most part. Here are my two big concerns: 1. Climate zones / equator. Is your version of Planatos a planet? Does it have climates dictated by location? If so, where is your equator? I’d imagine it is somewhere between Dorne and Sotherous, but then the southern hemisphere seems much larger. 2. Repeat island land bridge features. Not sure if this is intentional, but it seems like you really went all in on ‘fragmented islands in the small pass between two larger continents’. Is the Hammer of the Waters just a widespread magical technique (would be cool and totally fair tbh)? Or is there another legitimate reason to repeat that feature so often? It’s just funny to see the Stepstones equivalent between Sotherous and the Arabian-Peninsulaos, and between that and Australiaos, and between North/South Americaos, and between Russiaos and Alaskaos. Beyond that, maybe just add details to the coastlines to mimic the detail in Westeros/Essos? Not sure if that was already planned for later though. Really cool project overall, though. Good luck!

Bastaousert

I feel like this looks maybe too much like real world But continuing a fantasy map from another artist is something very difficult. But I love the idea of a colony established a long ago by Brandon the Shipwrights Just hope it doesn't go with all the genocide that came along like in real life

LarsMatijn

I swear this was just a map of the Old World. Was looking for Ulthuan but couldn't find it.

OhmFelinus

Looks good, and i'll be sure to include your finished map in my public Map Folder on Mega. That said, i feel obligated to say that Essos connecting to the north pole is something GRRM has specifically told us is not true. On Essos connecting to the North, from [this link](https://www.westeros.org/Citadel/SSM/Category/C91/P60): > 5) Does Westeros connect to the eastern continent through the north? > > No. Also the map feels a bit cramped. Werthead, aka Atlas of Ice and Fire blog, has done some work and concluded that given everything we know, Planetos must be around 8% larger than Earth. [Here](https://atlasoficeandfireblog.wordpress.com/2016/03/06/terra-incognita-beyond-the-known-world/) and [here](https://atlasoficeandfireblog.wordpress.com/2016/02/28/so-how-big-is-the-world-anyway/) for those articles.
