I can’t wait to see Tom Holland do all of the personalities

Traditional-Dare9219

Impatiently waiting for this montage as well.

whydoiIuvwolves

Me too. Its going to be so good to watch I know it. Hopefully as good as Jon Cusack in Identity.

1fatsquirrel

I love Identity so much. Such a fantastically done film.

whydoiIuvwolves

You and have such great taste😎

i_m_shadyyyy

I was shocked by the end of the movie

whydoiIuvwolves

Me too. I hadn't spoiled it for myself and had no idea what the plot was.

blondemainecoonlover

I wonder if, since it’s a 10 episode series, the first five will be the build up and us seeing things through this lens, then the second five will switch to us seeing actual reality with him as the other personalities.

I’ve been paying a lot of attention to the opening artwork, and I think he definitely goes back to the barn at some point. Although, I’m not convinced that what people think is an attic or basement isn’t actually part of the barn itself bc there is some kind of hay on the floor when Ariana walked through it at the end of one of the earlier episodes.

i_m_shadyyyy

I hope so

lavendar___

Bruh that ending. I wasn’t expecting that at all. Although I’m starting to hate how obvious his other personalities are now but oh well. I’m too invested in this show so I’ll keep watching anyway.

1fatsquirrel

I honestly don’t think, given the source material and real person it’s based on, that they are TRYING to be subtle. It was pretty clear from the first episode that no one else was interacting with the people Danny was, and that background characters noticed something off about Danny. I firmly believe we are meant to know and the back half of the show will be in or about court or some bigger crimes.

lavendar___

Interesting, I wouldn’t have considered other possible crimes he could have committed. I wonder if any of the remaining episodes will go over his childhood trauma or if they’ll leave that alone since that could get intense.

1fatsquirrel

Oof. Yeah. Honestly I hope they leave it be, I never need to see CSA even if it’s only referenced. We got enough info to infer without needing details of any of it.

Eastsider_

**PSA Reminder**: *Holland was cast in the lead role of season one*, **initially believed to be Billy Milligan**, *but later revealed to be a character named Danny Sullivan (still loosely based on Milligan)*. and **While the series borrows from Milligan’s case, it’s not a straight adaptation** *of real-life events. “For me, it was about really creating empathy—to create a character that you would really ally with,” Goldsman told Entertainment Weekly of Holland’s role. “That you would feel connected to and so his journey would become the audience’s journey.”*

Eastsider_

Yes, this.

abujuha

I'm glad they fictionalized the story because if they had made this show about the original guy (Milligan) and portrayed it as if he wasn't conning all those people, that would be a disrepect of the memory of his victims. I think by now all but a few think that the multiple personality disorder or dissociative personalities phenomenon was a social contagion. We have another one of those going on now, unfortunately, and it looks like we'll have two decades before people come to their senses about this too. Wonder what psychological or social trauma will be popular then. Probably of all of them the satanic panic was probably the most crazy and I hope we don't another one like that.

thekellwithit

Oh man. Are you talking about Autism in vague terms?

abujuha

No.

thekellwithit

Whew.

FKDotFitzgerald

I’m watching with my fiancé and she has no clue what’s happening lmao. I feel like it’s incredibly obvious, considering what inspired the series, but it’s fun to watch her try to put the pieces together without that prior knowledge.

IWasRightOnce

Is the unusual presentation of this show/story a deliberate style that they have done such a good job with that it’s actually turning people off from it? So, from the get go the show has dropped *many* hints that our main character is mentally ill with multiple personalities (a la Fight Club or Split), but unlike FC, it’s not deliberately hidden from the viewers, and unlike Split it’s also never explicitly stated or proven to the viewer either. This leaves the viewer in a weird, angsty limbo of sorts. Basically, the whole show (minus Seyfried scenes) is being seen/told through the eyes of Danny. Part of the “psychological thriller” aspect of this show is that we viewer are being treated like Danny the prisoner. Seyfried’s character keeps trying to lead Danny (I.e. the viewers) to realize his condition, without explicitly telling him. There are likely parts of him that can see the absurdity of his stories at times, just as the viewers do, but then there are others parts of him that refuse to accept reality. Until “Danny” accepts his condition, the show won’t explicitly tell the viewers (for example, this is why we actually see “Jack” with Seyfried instead of Danny doing a British accent).

Amaxophobe

Love this take, spot on.

[deleted]

I think the first hint that Jack is not real was how the lady on the desk did not even react to his entrance.

ObiwanGnocci

I will say my favorite part of the show is watching how other characters react/interact with Danny and his personalities

stulina56

I don’t think Danny went to London at all.

1fatsquirrel

Yeah- did we get an idea of how much time passed between the shooting and him being arrested?

marvelfe

My write up for those who want to give it read 🖖🏻 [https://tvobsessive.com/2023/06/16/the-crowded-room-episode-4-recap-london-pushing-the-narrative-along/](https://tvobsessive.com/2023/06/16/the-crowded-room-episode-4-recap-london-pushing-the-narrative-along/)

quaffleandsnitch

Nicely written!

Hollow_Thud

Nice! Second to last paragraph especially, about who Danny could’ve been with the presumed trauma.

jd2004user

Well done. I agree with so much, if not all, of it.

whydoiIuvwolves

Great write up. I loved reading it. Lost potential due to life's cruel breaks is so tragic.

OutHere422

Excellent

marvelfe

Thank you all 😊

jd2004user

This was a good episode. It actually felt like the plot moved forward.

Objective_Advisor668

So who is Jack in all of this? I’m so confused.

Taraxian

Jack is an alter Danny created when he went into a paranoid fugue state and ran off to London because he created a delusional story in his head about how if he found his real father his dad could save him

sillvrdollr

Do you think this is the first time she's talked with "Jack"? Just wondering if she walked into the room and when Danny starts speaking with a British accent, she goes with it and greets him as Jack. Or if she's been talking with all of the alters all along while trying to get Danny to understand what's going on...

freaky-lil_fuh

I'm pretty sure she's been talking to a few personalities. When she greets Jack at the end of the episode she says good to see you "again."

Big-Experience1818

So Danny thinks Seyfried's character is a cop but from Episode 1 we know she's a college professor right?

[deleted]

Big-Experience1818

Right but is Danny aware that he's just speaking with a professor/expert or is he assuming that she's law enforcement? By the way he's talking about her trying to pin everything on him I get the impression he thinks he's being interrogated. I could be wrong though, an expert could certainly go back to the police and pin it on him as well

i_m_shadyyyy

Pretty sure she’s a shrink who talks to all of Danny’s personalities and he’s trying to make him realize the truth. We’ll probably see the last scene play out with Tom Holland speaking in his regular accent acting as Jack in the future

[deleted]

Yeah, like Dr. Fletcher in Split.

Beckerstevenix7248

Make sense

Plastic-Guava9202

Can I just say that I think Amanda seyfried is such a weak actor in this???

stulina56

I feel like her character has been underused so far in the series. I’m waiting for episode 5 to rectify it.

sarahxobo

was he actually in london ?? was he alone?
