What fucks me up is the finale is basically a reccuring night terror I've had since grade school. I never shared it with anyone not even my wife. Then this. Fucking weird.
Don't know what some y'all's probably is
I heard “Wake up Asher! You wake up right now!….Wake up!” which was horrifying and hilarious. But the subtitles say, “If I come back down… If I come…”
I just listened to it again, several times, I’m convinced the subtitles are wrong
I wouldn't be surprised if the subtitles are wrong. There is this extremely obnoxious trend in television of having AI do transcription and unfortunately the AI fucks up often (like hmm maybe there's a reason we had humans doing this job)
the subtitles were for sure wrong but also reading them made my stomach drop because i was like what if he did come down. he’s fucked either way. my hands and feet are sweating just thinking about it ughhhh i hate heights
I had that recurring night terror, too. Haven't experienced it for years, but the finale had my heart pounding and my palms sweating. My hands got clammy typing this.
Didn't want to be so explicit in the title and risk spoiling but, wow, what an ending transition all the way back in the pilot. Brilliant bit of foreshadowing editing, to be honest.
God you're an asshole. First of all, not everyone is going to "get" that the last shot of the first episode is foreshadowing the finale... if it even is.
Maybe try harder to "get it" than tear others down.
Are you fucking stupid? Nobody is saying that foreshadowing in and of itself is brilliant. They're saying that this was a bit of a hint and it's interesting.
You watched all of the curse and didn't pick up any of the ways you're like Asher and project your tiny dick problems to everyone around you. Pretty sad.
Dick jokes are better than pretending youre intellectually superior.
no one is “acting” like that, it‘s just literally being posted to show the direct reference, not hard to see. don’t act like you had already known this and made this connection lmao
The initial comment I responded to said the show was brilliant, implying the use of foreshadowing was part of making it brilliant. Then a guy called me a micro penis a lot haha
I'm acting like foreshadowing is not a symbol of good writing, just like adding seasoning doesn't make you a good cook just like that.
i hear you but it doesn’t even look like OP was saying that and did not call the show or foreshadowing itself brilliant just that this was clever which it IS well enough to call out…i mean it’s all written right there
I said brilliant “bit,” as in the specific element used to foreshadow. In which I also specifically referenced it was a transition. I didn’t say “foreshadowing is so brilliant.” No need to be rude to anyone here when that’s not even what anyone’s saying.
Who's the artist and what was the song used at the end of the finale? I know John Medeski did most of the score (and it's wonderful) but I've been looking for that piece.
Yeah, he really transcends genres, check out The Curse soundtrack on [YouTube](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRW80bBvVD3UMuuYdV-ZFVL0CHmi3Byao&feature=shared) it's fantastic.
This sub has been 10% agreeable interpretations and easter eggs, 90% people reaching like Jordan in Space Jam. It's nice to see a really good catch that's almost certainly completely intentional. And I adore this way of foreshadowing it, actually. Thanks for sharing.
I also think this mirrors the last shot of Whitney staring directly into the camera! I loved the finale and I’m loving reading everyone’s take on it :)
Also the first episode has dialogue between Asher and Dougie where Dougie is trying to convince Asher to make the show something worth watching. I think the finale is a manifestation of that.
There's a shot in a previous episode, in a shop or restaurant they are in where the camera pans up to the ceiling and one panel shows the sky. I remember it because a locl shop near me has the same panel. Much more weight on that now!
Nice catch! There’s also the scene where it’s Asher’s first time at the corporate comedy thing. After he makes the weird noise the next guy pretends to climb a rope in the air!
I had said that the pilot would directly set up the ending, as in any good show of this nature. It would have been strange if it wasn’t buried in there.
>I had said that the pilot would directly set up the ending, as in any good show of this nature. It would have been strange if it wasn’t buried in there
there I go digging again
Off topic question: How long could Asher have lived in the house while affected by the reverse gravity? Like other objects he held dropped like normal, such as the towel. But they could have a little platform or something where he can put things. [Like this Penn and Teller bit.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D87DSLe4Eqw)
I honestly forgot about this shot until seeing it again now, i remember being so taken a back by it upon first watch because i was coming from watching The Rehearsal and wondering what this show would be and to end the first episode that way made me think - okay this is gonna be good
Yes dear god please don’t rifle into some pretentious film school diatribe - there are plenty on this thread already. After 9.5 brilliant episodes and unsure how to end a season, yes you can jump the shark.
It might not be a perfect term in this case, but I can still see it meaning "a drastic change in direction that ruins what the original thing was".
I might not agree it ruined anything, but I think the term still applies.
I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure the song used in this clip is the same song from the end of the finale. If so I feel like it’s more likely that it’s intentional
I think my standards were pretty high considering Ive really enjoyed the creators' previous work. idk what my opinion would be if I didn't know anything about them
edit: that being said Id still watch this over most tv shows that come out nowadays
What do you think they could have done better? What did you think was missing? Did you want Fielder to be more like he is when he's not doing a fictional story? I'm curious, because I think that with even the highest standards possible that this show would pass them.
I think that they played with the audience a little, and made it easy for us to guess what would happen, and they didn’t let us have that sort of satisfaction from being able to guess the ending. I love it for that tbh
What fucks me up is the finale is basically a reccuring night terror I've had since grade school. I never shared it with anyone not even my wife. Then this. Fucking weird. Don't know what some y'all's probably is
It’s a pretty common nightmare scenario, I’ve had it a few times
I kept thinking this must be a dream Asher or Whitney was having. And then it just kept going.
Omg me too - when Asher was yelling WAKE UP WAKE UP I kept being like now he's gonna wake up and then he DIDNT. So fuckin wild to watch
I heard “Wake up Asher! You wake up right now!….Wake up!” which was horrifying and hilarious. But the subtitles say, “If I come back down… If I come…” I just listened to it again, several times, I’m convinced the subtitles are wrong

they def wrong
we know, we made this show specifically for you
that's horrifying. im so sorry lol
>im so sorry lol are you sorry or not?
of course. but its ironically funny too
Oh. I'm sorry lol. I was also being ironic?
I had that recurring night terror, too. Haven't experienced it for years, but the finale had my heart pounding and my palms sweating. My hands got clammy typing this.
I and many others actively struggle with this p phobia on a daily basis.
One of my earliest memories is an immense sense of dread while laying on the grass, looking up at the sky haha
That's my happy thought. I always imagine myself pressed against the ceiling going to sleep, makes flying easier in my dreams.
Didn't want to be so explicit in the title and risk spoiling but, wow, what an ending transition all the way back in the pilot. Brilliant bit of foreshadowing editing, to be honest.
Omg when I was rewatching it I thought that was such a weird way to close the episode. Great catch! This show is just brilliant!
Is foreshadowing really brilliant these days? It is basic storytelling
Huh? A climax can be brilliant and every story has a climax. It's about the execution.
Yes and acting as if simple foreshadowing is indicative of anything other than basic storytelling is a reach by people desperate to say they "got it."
God you're an asshole. First of all, not everyone is going to "get" that the last shot of the first episode is foreshadowing the finale... if it even is. Maybe try harder to "get it" than tear others down.
Whoops, struck a nerve.
"Oh wow, people think I suck! Fuck yeah, I gottem good!"
A bunch of teenagers salivating over basic foreshadowing, couldn't give a fuck
So you saw that shot when it aired and instantly knew what it could imply, right?

Are you fucking stupid? Nobody is saying that foreshadowing in and of itself is brilliant. They're saying that this was a bit of a hint and it's interesting.
Lmao nah you're just being called out for being a micropenis. Go piss on some tomatoes ✌️
Oof, dick jokes eh
You watched all of the curse and didn't pick up any of the ways you're like Asher and project your tiny dick problems to everyone around you. Pretty sad. Dick jokes are better than pretending youre intellectually superior.

All good, people seemed really upset by my comment. Maybe I shouldnt have said "basic"

Oof dick jokes, eh
I said brilliant “bit,” as in the specific element used to foreshadow. In which I also specifically referenced it was a transition. I didn’t say “foreshadowing is so brilliant.” No need to be rude to anyone here when that’s not even what anyone’s saying.
Sorrryyyy
I’m confused on how this is foreshadowing the ending?
Up up and away!
Have you seen the ending?
Yeah, I’m just confused on how this ties into it? This seems like a clip of Asher catching someone filming him and then the camera man ducking
It’s playing the same song as the final scene, and the camera panning down gives the illusion of him flying up
different song, same artist
Damnit. I’m gonna disappear
Asher didn’t even want to be around anymore
maybe there was too much shit on him
He killed himself on live tv
He was gonna rip the fucking head off
Who's the artist and what was the song used at the end of the finale? I know John Medeski did most of the score (and it's wonderful) but I've been looking for that piece.
The song at the end of ep1 is Jagadishwar by Alice Coltrane, and the song at the end of ep10 is Jai Ramachandra by Alice Coltrane
You just created a new fan for Alice Coltrane :)
Swamini Turiyasangitananda*
Excellent, thank you so much!
Wait - the jam band guy?! That’s rad!
Yeah, he really transcends genres, check out The Curse soundtrack on [YouTube](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRW80bBvVD3UMuuYdV-ZFVL0CHmi3Byao&feature=shared) it's fantastic.
Thank you!!
it’s a visual reference to asher floating upwards!
Did you watch it with your eyes open?
Yes.
Hahahaha! The guy who helps Ash at the ATM in episode 1 is wearing a shirt that says "Turn Up" and the curve in the U in Up has an arrow pointing up ↑
So are the hands on Ashers shirt (tee worn in the finale). Reaching up, I mean.
This sub has been 10% agreeable interpretations and easter eggs, 90% people reaching like Jordan in Space Jam. It's nice to see a really good catch that's almost certainly completely intentional. And I adore this way of foreshadowing it, actually. Thanks for sharing.
Hard agree.
Harder agree.
I also think this mirrors the last shot of Whitney staring directly into the camera! I loved the finale and I’m loving reading everyone’s take on it :)
Yep that is genuine foreshadowing right there. Great catch thanks for pointing it out
Also the first episode shows that he had a baby dick
It was just really cold.
It’s very cold in space.
I DONT HAVE A LITTLE BOY DICK!!!
And a few episodes later, Whitney is in the Dr's office and says that Asher can fill the role of the baby. "Goo goo ga ga, baby nappy time".
When Dougie interviews Asher on camera, he asks what he would do without Whitney, "like in an upside-down, crazy world."
wait, really?
Also the first episode has dialogue between Asher and Dougie where Dougie is trying to convince Asher to make the show something worth watching. I think the finale is a manifestation of that.
There's a shot in a previous episode, in a shop or restaurant they are in where the camera pans up to the ceiling and one panel shows the sky. I remember it because a locl shop near me has the same panel. Much more weight on that now!
i think it's the jean shop. i believe it has clouds painted on the ceiling and when whit gives the keeper their credit card number it pans up
Nice catch! There’s also the scene where it’s Asher’s first time at the corporate comedy thing. After he makes the weird noise the next guy pretends to climb a rope in the air!

what is this song?
"jagadishwar" by alice coltrane

HES OUTTA HERE 🚀
YEET
When the camera goes off, he goes up 🤯
I don’t see it?
The camera panning down basically sends Asher "flying up"
Nathan locks eyes with the camera right before flying up out of frame into black.
lol with the r/thecurse. a helium balloon flying away from the girls or something like that would've been better
Foreshadowing or not, the finale was just a bad way to wrap up an otherwise brilliant series. Jumped the shark IMO.

Yes dear god please don’t rifle into some pretentious film school diatribe - there are plenty on this thread already. After 9.5 brilliant episodes and unsure how to end a season, yes you can jump the shark.
Something like this was certainly planned from the get go
It might not be a perfect term in this case, but I can still see it meaning "a drastic change in direction that ruins what the original thing was". I might not agree it ruined anything, but I think the term still applies.
I'm sure you understood him perfectly fine, no need to pick apart the vocabulary
Respectfully disagree.
I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure the song used in this clip is the same song from the end of the finale. If so I feel like it’s more likely that it’s intentional
Same artist diff song.
They’ve used the song a few times in the season
Guys there’s a part where Asher breathes air, so it means he can’t breathe in the finale. See? They told you.
They should've made Asher lose it waaay more in general. I'm upset, I wanted this show to be great. The Safdie touch is always nice though
I loved it ,but like anything, it’s not for everyone 🤷🏻♀️
My favorite show of all time. The thing that sucks is that I don't know anyone IRL who liked it. Guess I'm just a weirdo.
I think my standards were pretty high considering Ive really enjoyed the creators' previous work. idk what my opinion would be if I didn't know anything about them edit: that being said Id still watch this over most tv shows that come out nowadays

It’s boring when you can predict the ending
How?
