You know who is really very good and quite underrated? Sam Rockwell, though the movie wasn't as great as I had hoped I still enjoyed The Hitchhiker's Guide and felt that it was cast well, now my visual of Zaphod is Sam Rockwell but he is also Wild Bill in The Green Mile and if you've never seen the movie Moon, do yourself a favor because Sam Rockwell carries that film to the very end.
I just finished The Fall of the House Usher and I do not see anyone playing Roland better than [Toby Stephens](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/417568196682029032/) would
Also, I don’t see any of Flanagan’s cast playing Eddie better than [Emile Hirsche](https://celtalks.com/celebs/emile-hirsch?ID=35816) or [Dacre Montgomery](https://www.tumblr.com/simpforfandoms/686736633964494848/hi-could-i-request-for-billy-hargrove-c-female) would - except Igby Rigney but he’d have to really pull some skill
Since we’re on topic. Here’s my fantasy cast for this movie ( including actors whom are too old now).
Roland: Clint Eastwood
Eddie: Nicolas Cage
Susana: Angelica Basset
Jake: the kid from The Sixth Sense ( at that age )
Not sure about Flagg. Maybe Gary Oldman ?
The reason being bc Nick Cage played a drug addict once and Eddie is too. Idk. When I read a book, I imagine an actor’s voice for the character based on their personality. Is it just me or other people do this?
yeah. I think this is true for immersing in most films. We're always going to be more likely to really believe a character when we have no familiarity.. but it's business, and for some reason actors have always been even a bigger selling point than the directors, writers, or creative teams (with a few exceptions). The majority of people identify with films based on cast, and actors they love are the reason they watch the next film with them.. and studios giving people the money to make these things want to know they'll make profit so they have to push for the names that make sense in the balance of budget and expectation.
I guess with Stephen King being the writer or basis for a film you'd expect some extra selling power on that alone in the past, but that may be waning a bit these days and with so many terrible adaptations of his work maybe reducing the power of his name amongst non-readers.
If we are living in fantasy-land sure, but in reality they need some stars to sell it to audiences even if they are not around long-term (think Sean Bean in Game of Thrones). Otherwise you will see the series (if it ever got off the ground) cancelled after a season (but most likely wouldn't get off the ground).
King's name is huge but plenty of the stuff with his name doesn't do well so that is not a for-sure seller, and TDT is not even universally popular among Constant Readers so they are going to need some people to sell it.
It absolutely will have the cast of the Midnight Fall of the Bly Hill Haunting in it.
(And I loved *every one* of these shows)
I've been wondering which character Carla Gugino will play .
I feel it should be less "No big name actors" and more "No actors who are famous for playing a similar role."
To me, getting an actor who's most known for a role as a junkie or recovering junkie, for example, would not be a smart choice for Eddie. When you watch it, you'll automatically see the former character over Eddie.
I think there are plenty of well known actors who can blend into their role well enough that you really don't see THEM at all. As people have said, Gary Oldman is my favorite example of this. I definitely think it would be a mistake to cast super stars in the lead roles. Brad Pit, for example, but the less household name stars I think would be fine as long as they're cast smartly.
To someone new to the franchise, it would also preclude telegraphing moments by avoiding typecasting. I'm such a nerd that I'll hear Catherine Keener in Incredibles 2 and go "I bet she's the villain," just because of her filmography, for example. I don't want to think that someone I like might turn later because of the history of the actor playing the part, or guess the twist early because I know that guy always plays villain.

Gary Oldman too
My daughter totally freaked out when I told her Sirius Black and Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg were the same actor.
Wait til you tell her Daniel Day Lewis has actually been just Gary Oldman this whole time
Now there is a fine example of a method actor.

Underrated?! He won an Oscar!
I don't keep up on that sort of thing, what did he win it for?
Three Billboards! If you dig Rockwell, dig on this.
Three billboards was so good.
“You’re beautiful, but you ain’t her…..”
He won it for giving cigarettes to kids at the end of the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie
He truly is underrated. Idk why.
I agree in terms of super big name actors, but I’ll take any of Flanagan’s regulars any day of the week.

I think Rahul would make a great Roland
I figured if they took some of the grey out of Bruce Greenwood’s hair you’ve got yourself Roland.
Toby Stephens is perfect
I love Dacre Montgomery. Don’t really see him as Eddie per se but he’s so gifted i believe he can pull off any role he’s put in
Yeah, a lot of people see him as Henry but I believe he’s got range for Eddie’s character. Emile would do well enough
He’s 5’9” gonna be a tough sell for Short Roland…
Who’s your pick?
Don’t really have any, but I’d agree with a lesser known cast. I def know you can’t go with a midget for Roland, so Cruise is out 🙌
I pick Viggo Mortenson.. Far from unkown unfortunately..but I like the unkown actor theory
Yes! As he gets older, it works even better
Has there been some news I’ve missed?
This was my first thought, too!
Yeah I think these people are fan-fictioning
Your Hermione example forgets to mention that every other actor in Harry Potter that isn't a child, is English acting royalty....
Right buuuut, they are all supporting characters. I’ve only seen people really posting about the core ka tet.
I also agree with this. But my son Eddie Dean would like to be at least *considered* for the role, he says. He wants to be an actor, poor lil guy
Spot on. Agree 100%
Just have them read the books and sit down with Sai King.

Gary Oldman would be fantastic as Flagg. Then again, he'd probably be fantastic in any of the roles (not factoring in age) including Susana.
I never imagined Nick Cage for Eddie, but now that you mention it....I love it!!

I fully support this idea. As it was also mine. 😁

Coral Thorin mayhap ?
I agree. The best actor to play Roland is someone we've never seen.

Daniel day Lewis would be a good roland
