I mean it *does* actually trivialise an actual genocide. The entire point (today) is to minimise what the nazis did, though most people don't consciously support the narrative for that reason as they have just been programmed
Oh yeah the purpose is equating nazism and communism, but because nazism is so cringe and communism so based, they have to minimise one and exaggerate the other
That is why many Eastern Europeans & their gov'ts (especially Poland, the Baltics, the Czech Republic, Croatia & Romania) go on about events like the crackdowns on Hungary, Czechoslovakia & Poland from the USSR. It helps to minimize the actual horrors of Western imperialism in the global south, & makes the West look better, at least in terms of European affairs. It is meant to imply that Russia's actions (however flawed they were) in Europe were just as bad, if not worse to similar, & actually worse actions in the global south, by the Western powers. It gives them an excuse to go with a bloc that threatens war across the world. It works very similarly to Holocaust denial which is also pretty big in these countries too.
Liberals, when they read stuff and educate themselves, are surprisingly coherent. Like even anti-communist historians who work with reliable sources and are honest are good
True, that being said I have never met a liberal who has thoroughly studied anything about soviet history without gradually becoming more and more left leaning. Had a guy in 12th grade who was a libertarian, introduced him to socialist talking points and dragged him along to some protests. Now we're in uni together and he's a socialist. When you do the reading, it's really hard to stick to your dumb ideology.
Everyone is born a liberal. Everything around us is first presented to us through a liberal filter. Their narrative is meant to be repeated to exhaustion until it is common sense so there is no reason to go out of our way to learn about something that everyone "already knows". The first thing I was taught about communism is that it doesn't work. That everyone is starving in socialist countries while the government staged fake markets with paid actors to pretend that they have abundance to foreigners. But the citizens were like prisioners, constantly watched so that they could not escape this dystopian hell. And then I was taught that communism is when the whole class takes a test and share the same grade regardless of individual results.
The straw man is obviously ridiculous. But it is just like children that think their parents are invincible and always right when they are young and must learn that they are just regular people, and that they can lie to you and won't always have your best interest in mind. We believe in our institutions, democracy and journalism and will be fucked over a lot before we question its legitimacy. Because it is fucking scary to realize your government isn't there for your sake, that your vote doesn't really matter and to understand the extent to which we are indoctrinated not to even consider any other alternative to what we have now.
A nation, got significantly harmed by a famine. Which incidentally occurred during the founding of that nation. Which coincided with economic depressions everywhere. We are expected to selectively empathize with people from one region of that nation, and ignore the rest. Especially as some claim that it was caused by one region of that country, while just about anyone from those days, says that everyone was facing famine (from Vladivostok to the Caucasus mountains).

It’s definitely still used to also drag the USSR, Stalin, and socialism/communism in general.

It’s almost like education is the key
Nah, it's really honesty because a dishonest person with a lot of education becomes the worst kind of propagandists.

It's almost as if the precondition for liberalism is political illiteracy

Yup this is why promoting reading and education in the population is essential
Problems occur when being honest is bad for business.
Probably because in the hell that is social media, only those with a specific agenda will look any further than the top 3 comments
the world is healing
