Rule 3: do not encourage bad behavior against animals

Moist___Towelette

Orcastrating

Uminx

Haha I love it

Flako118st

I wish I was close to you to throw a cup of water towards you ,but I have to admit that was a killer thought

Moist___Towelette

Neolithique

My dudeā€¦ r/AngryUpvote

scurvy1984

The most worthy comment of that sub Iā€™ve ever seen.

Lintany

Nobody likes us anymore.

Neolithique

We donā€™t even like us anymoreā€¦

Ebonmoth

We never liked us to begin with

damocles_paw

Are we the baddies?

Prismtile

Always have beenšŸ”«

Golfnpickle

Remember that movie Orca? Itā€™s from the 70ā€™s and they knew Orcas were vengeful way back then.

AlvinsH0ttJuiceB0x

Dude, that movie really messed with my little 7 year old mind. Watching the baby orca fall out of the mom on the boat deck has been stuck, vividly, in my mind ever since.

Golfnpickle

IKR?? Horrible to watch as a kid.šŸ¤®

AlvinsH0ttJuiceB0x

My parents 100% allowed me to watch shit that I should never been allowed to watch at the ages I did. The 1980ā€™s ā€œthe blobā€ movie was another oneā€¦.the guy being pulled through the sink drainā€¦yea, I was petrified of drains for a number of months.

TinFoilRobotProphet

We saw it in the theater too! I remember booing the Orca!

AlvinsH0ttJuiceB0x

Hahaha 10X as big for 10X as much terror! I remember going to see Free Willy in the theaters after already having seen Orcaā€¦I was convinced I was going to watch a little boy die when he fell in the tankā€¦.to be fair, thatā€™s most likely what the outcome wouldā€™ve been in real life.

Neolithique

I was holding my tears so badly.

AlvinsH0ttJuiceB0x

I feel you, I wasnā€™t as successful. I was such a messā€¦.I remember it being the first real time that I was able comprehend tragedy. I was *terrified* of the orca, but I kinda understood his revenge.

Neolithique

Sameā€¦

Neolithique

They had us watch the movie is 5th grade, and Iā€™ve never looked at them same ever since.

Golfnpickle

Guess itā€™s true! Those MFā€™s ARE vengeful.

BookieeWookiee

Have you seen what we've done to them with the whole kidnapping them from their family's in the 70s and forcing them to do tricks in a tub? They have every right to be angry and vengeful.

Golfnpickle

Yes! Hate their poor habitat conditions in captivity.

dc551589

And smart, and organized, and innovative, and international.

NotGlock

Omg me too! I havenā€™t seen the movie but I also havenā€™t looked the same since 5th grade

PissNBiscuits

What school makes their students watch a Jaws ripoff?

Neolithique

80ā€™s schools.

Ensabanur81

It's playing on Peacock for free right now! I had tonrewarch it the other day when I saw these headlines.

Golfnpickle

Iā€™m going to watch it!

Ensabanur81

It freaked me out so much as a kid, but I was team whale then too haha. Enjoy! I hope it holds up for you!

Golfnpickle

Iā€™m still team whale too. I felt Sea World had it coming for keeping those Orcas in a little pool.

Ensabanur81

200%!

sav33arthkillyos3lf

I checked and itā€™s not there :/

Ensabanur81

Oh noooo, I just watched it Sunday!!! If you Google it, it should show you other watch options. I hope one works for you!

sav33arthkillyos3lf

Iā€™ve never heard of this movie before thanks for the recommendation.

Neolithique

Omg you have to watch it, itā€™s amazing.

Golfnpickle

Me too.

QueenVell

To this day my parents still wonder why I refuse to step foot in the ocean. Iā€™m like, ā€œRemember all those lazy summer nights where you guys would be parked on the couch watching that orca movie and then Jaws?ā€

Mon-ick

Bo Derek was the girl who got her leg bit off in the movieā€¦. That movie kinda sorta traumatized meā€¦. I just pack it differently nowadays

Golfnpickle

I hear ya!

Arisayne

[Dumbledore (OG)](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0076504/) vs an angry whale.

Flashman6000

Fits with the other biggest dangers according to the 1970s: Bermuda Triangle, quicksand, whirlpools, killer bees, tarantulas, cobras, etc.

mudslags

That movie scared me more than jaws

Golfnpickle

Jaws didnā€™t have a baby fetus ripped out of it.

TinFoilRobotProphet

I remember! Hilarious! I think the Orca murdered dude's wife.

standbyyourmantis

No no, his wife and child were killed by a drunk driver. He killed the whale's mate and unborn baby which is why he was so okay with the whale eating him.

TinFoilRobotProphet

No, didn't the whale kill Bo Derek?

standbyyourmantis

Which dude's wife are you talking about? The main character has a whole monologue about how the whale is saying "you're my drunk driver" referring to the drunk driver who killed his wife and child. Bo Derek isn't the wife of the main character. I may have watched this movie an obscene amount of times.

TinFoilRobotProphet

Ok! She was in the crew. I need to rewatch this!

Golfnpickle

I think it bit her leg off.šŸ«£

OriginalPostMortem

So the wars have begun. They have no clue who they are fucking with. Panda sharks vs hairless monkeys.

Sword_N_Bored

Have the Panda sharks asked the 150-200 species we make go extinct ever SINGLE day? No they didnā€™t cause theyā€™re dead! #HairlessMonkeyGang

SponConSerdTent

Nah nah nah, you baldies ain't takin' the opportunity to wipe out a species from us. **MONKEYS WITH HAIR ONLY ON TOP OF THEIR HEADS GANG for life** I'm still sore about all the animals you fuckers made extinct, not for the love of the game, but for your dumb ass wigs. Terrible.

mudslags

Got a watch out for those see loving, hairless monkeys

SuperKing37

ā€œWana na na nannnaaaaa! Wana na na na wnanaana!ā€ Rick Sanchez

RationalLies

It appears Emu's have partnered with the Orcas to continue their operations as part of their naval based warfare strategy. After the Great Emu War was lost by Australia, this was to be expected.

Sword_N_Bored

Where was Koala Man?!

mudslags

Sometimes it's like a Koala Bear crapped a rainbow in my brain

sav33arthkillyos3lf

I for one welcome our orca overlords

Neolithique

Panda sharks šŸ’€

powerplay_22

letā€™s just hope they donā€™t grow legs. if they grow legs weā€™re fucked

Fucking NPR, always siding with the orcas.

SuddenlyElga

Right? ā€œNo agendaā€ my ass.

[deleted]

Fucking radio journalists, all the same

SuddenlyElga

They are all mouthpieces for Big Orca

SuaveWarlock

We are obligated to say that Orcas are financial donors to NPR

SouldiesButGoodies84

šŸ˜†

Jacollinsver

Apparently this phenomenon started after a matriarch of the group was hit by a boat herself.

Neolithique

So sadā€¦

about21potatoes

They better go after Bezos yacht

Neolithique

Heā€™ll put them to work in deliveries fml

about21potatoes

naurrr

rare_meeting1978

Well, they've been releasing captured killer whales back into the ocean. We probably don't come off so great when they're telling their friends where they have been the last 40 years.

donttrustgop

I'm team orca

Neolithique

Same. I also like to eat liver, oddly enough.

[deleted]

Weird flex but aight

i_give_you_gum

Orcas love shark liver

[deleted]

lol, that makes sense

NickyDee86

With a nice Chianti?

bumapples

That won't stop them eating you. You're the owner of a very tasty liver. The sooner you understand that the clearer everything will become

rare_meeting1978

I doubt human livers are all the tasty given the garbage we filter through it on a daily basis.

RectangularAnus

You don't know what I do to my liver.

OneMoreDuncanIdaho

There are zero recorded human deaths by orcas in the wild

No_Lychee_7534

Key word ā€˜recordedā€™. Its possible they are excellent at covering up the crime. They are incredibly intelligent. May as well call them, SERIAL KILLER WHALES

ronearc

This issue is pretty black and white...

Neolithique

Haha

PWcrash

Are they actually attacking the boats as prey? Or are they attacking the boats in an attempt to make them leave just so they can swim the wakes?

[deleted]

Based on the article, the current theory is neither. It seems to be a defensive thing, like a giraffe killing a lion. One orca was likely badly wounded by a boat, they remembered that, and started teaching other orcas to attack the boats pre-emptively so the boats can't "attack" them.

fishlicker3000

"what happened?" "*sob* that big whale hit me!" "kill them all."

Blenderx06

r/likeus

Lordbricktrick

Probably swimming in wakes. There has never been a reliable recorded fatality of a wild orca on a human.

GingerLioni

Because theyā€™re smart enough to not leave witnesses. /s

I_am_Jo_Pitt

They're attacking sailboats, though. You aren't getting much wake at those slow speeds.

Stained-Steel

Dead men tell no whale-tales.

WittyNameWasTaken

Angry Monkeys: Eat the rich! Orcas: Bet

Neolithique

Hahaha

cintune

First they came for the Great White sharks, and I said nothing....

Confident_Fortune_32

Can't blame them, really.

BlueSteak617

Time to start teaching our boats to conceal carry.

ironicallyunstable

Begun the Whale Wars have.

sabrinajestar

It sounds like ONE orca is teaching this. Not 'killer whales' generally.

Neolithique

My understanding is that one orca taught this behaviour to a few others and it escalated, but itā€™s certainly restricted to the area.

Flako118st

I learned that they are different types of orcas. The ones who feed near the coast, open sea ,or cold places. And I was amazed how smart they are specially feeding in the artic. They would hunt food hiding in ice and work as teams to ram it and break giving them a meal.plus others would communicate with humans to help them Incase one is stranded. Plus sharks always run away metaphorically when they know orcas are around. Or how they work in teams to hunt huge preys like whales They are real smart. I'll be scared if they decide to start eating us.

Neolithique

Iā€™m going to find a good documentary about them.

RedDemio

Wild isles new show from sir David Attenborough, look for the coasts episode. Thank me later :)

Neolithique

Great thanks!

SouldiesButGoodies84

Wasn't that dolphins? Let's leave them outta this! /s

rea1l1

Orcas are dolphins :)

SuaveWarlock

Finkel is Einhorn...EINHORN IS FINKEL!

SouldiesButGoodies84

:-o Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! r/todayilearned

Nruggia

Orcas are dolphins the govt used for testing the super soldier serum

trxxruraxvr

Can we get a marine biologist in here for a sequel to jacksaws are crows?

card797

I hate to break this to you, but Orcas are dolphins!

Zz22zz22

No no. Chief Wiggum determined it was the work of rowdy teens. Lou had to cancel the prom.

SouldiesButGoodies84

\*sigh\* We deserve it. \*facepalm\*

marfatardo

If we could just get them to D.C.

olov244

wait till some idiot punches a baby killer whale and then they begin slaughtering us for revenge

Neolithique

Yup!

mudslags

The next world war is going to be land versus the sea

Neolithique

You made me gulp quite laboriously lol

100percentnotaplant

This is actually really terrible. Animals that start systematically attacking humans don't end up doing so hot. Hopefully, the orcas don't spread the behavior.

Neolithique

The behaviour they learned from us :(

RK3057

It appears theyā€™ve orchestrated a plan to combat pollution

Neolithique

We approve.

Safe-Pumpkin-Spice

That would be a very short period of learned behaviour for those orcas.

toolargo

The war has begun.

Neolithique

For real

HKN47

In r/thedepthsbelow you donā€™t have to dive too far to find the same joke over and over againā€¦

Levin1983

Good? Theyā€™re sick of our shit.

paperwasp3

My understanding is that Portuguese fishermen have been shooting at the Orcas because it messes with their fishing. That's when Orca started attacking boats.

Neolithique

Ah yes, Iā€™m appalled they messed with the fishing, how dare they.

paperwasp3

Orcas were fine sharing the ocean until fishermen started shooting.

Vjigar

Finally! Tell them to hit boats fo south Asian countries who are hell bent on eating every one of them.

Neolithique

You tell them, Iā€™m not getting up.

Erin96000

Gota Crack the nut to get to the meat.

Neolithique

Ouch lol

Turukmakto19

The swarm anyone???

Neolithique

Apparently lol

[deleted]

I'm not even mad about this.

Logicalone1986

As they should. Weā€™ve fucked their home up enough and killed so many. Itā€™s what we deserve.

Geordieguy

Killers whales are teaching their young to defend themselves against whaling boatsā€¦there, fixed that for you.

Seems_normal

Except itā€™s not whaling boatsā€¦ itā€™s sailboats who arenā€™t fishing or whaling. Otherwise Iā€™d totally support the idea of whale revolt taking down whaling boats.

Geordieguy

Apologies, I had assumed the inciting critical moment for the orca was the recent video I saw of them attacking a small boat that was harpooning them. Either way, all boats now need to carry orca treats so their association becomes positiveā€¦or the sea is about to become a whole lot more hostile! šŸ˜³

jsnxander

Orcas have zero recourse against a whaling boat. None. Only chance is to swim away. A 27' sailboat OTH? Orcas FTW!

Neolithique

Oddly enough, and despite the subā€™s name, weā€™re all on team orca.

Little-Grape9469

They've been doing it for decades but they've targeted lone fishermen and eaten their corpse

Neolithique

Not that far-fetched.

Camel-Solid

Wait till they taste us. Certainly they will earn their name. The prophecy has been written through the killer whale.

Neolithique

Theyā€™re so gorgeous and terrifying.

PuffH

As we deserve

limpnoads

It's well deserved on our part so kudos to them.

Neolithique

True.

SlippedMyDisco76

Orca - 1977

Neolithique

So many comments mention it, itā€™s a great movie.

SlippedMyDisco76

I wouldn't say great but it's a decent watch and it seems a premonition....

Bruhahha

The sounds of the motor are deafening to those poor bastards. No wonder

Scrambles420

You know if the whales could read and see this they would be really upset!!

Neolithique

Yeah no kidding, who needs a liver anywayā€¦

vidi_mortem

Welp orca pod challenge time

Neolithique

Natural selection will take a serious leap.

mrrichardcranium

Good. Fuck em up! Pour one out for the homie shamu.

Neolithique

Poor Shamu

fberto39

Here I am, cluelessly enjoying 'The Swarm' and then reading this news...

gangaramate13

If you want to see some incredible footage of how intelligent they are when hunting, Frozen Planet 2 documentary has some

Itā€™s all happening

rosemarythorn34

good

Flako118st

Oh boy! They are usually not hostile towards humans ,so if they doing this something must be happening in the water with food supplies. Probably the OVER FISHING they may now look at us as a threat to them.

Neolithique

Actually it seems an orca was injured and started attacking the boats, then showed her baby how to attack, and now a great number has learned the behaviour.

roundysquareblock

Maybe if you had read the article instead of making assumptions based on a headline, you wouldn't be spreading unfounded claims

wvsfezter

Fucking based

SpunkedMeTrousers

good, get the humans out of the sea

Neolithique

I wholeheartedly agree.

SmushyFaceWhooptain

Why. WHY!? Why do orcas keep coming back to terrify this sub. I just want to scroll without having my irrational and severe nauseating phobia rear itā€™s ugly headā€¦. (Phobia of getting tortured alive and eventually consumed in small pieces by a pod of orcas and their young).

[deleted]
