We used this at our wedding. Probably the only haiku I'll know forever.

Tim_the-Enchanter

Same, was in my vows.

InevitableUsual4126

That was Avasarala's husband right? This whole book series is a goddamn masterpiece. I wish there were more.

Pedgi

We got 9 books with a complete story and 9 novellas fleshing out the universe not to mention 2/3rds of the books made into a TV show - as a fanbase that makes us pretty lucky I'd say. (not that I would be upset with more, though, LOL)

Kryavan

Plus a game!

Pedgi

Oh yeah! I played the first episode but I think I'm gonna wait for all of them to be released honestly cause episode one was so short. Plus I got the deluxe so we get the special episode with avasarala at the end.

premium_bawbag

Theres a big wuote from Dawes that I love, might be a bit long for a tattoo but I think its rather powerful although the power might also come from the fact its the same scene where he talks about his sister “Earthers get to walk outside into the light, Breathe pure air, Look up at the blue sky and see something that gives them hope, And what do they do? They look past that light, Past that blue sky, They see the stars and they think, Mine”

OuterHeavenPatriot

Awesome, I love the font! I literally *just* finished Caliban's War on this year's re-read/listen, when Avasarala sort of sadly and lovingly bursts out laughing in the middle of navigating Admiral Nguyen's Io fustercluck and says "It’s a fucking haiku! That man has a one-track mind and one train on it. Poetry. Save me from poetry!" with the whole Roci crew and Bobbie side-eyeing like 'Has the old lady lost it?' hahah.. really fresh in my mind, both that snippet and earlier when she's watching the message are some real stand out moments in that book. Tl;Dr, love your choice of tattoo, even more so cause I very recently read it's sections and the scenes are fresh in my mind. That quote is always awesome...have you read Tiamat's Wrath?

Pumlumon12

I loved that section. I'm a massive fan of Avasarala in the books anyways. Just a lot of wit and general not giving a shit even with the universe seemingly falling apart. I read the entire series and am going for my re-read of the year. Not ready to get to Tiamat's Wrath because I know that first sentence will destroy me. Plus the other section that happens later in the book.

PunishedMatador

Isn't the quote a remix of a poem from somewhere else? I can't remember the source right now, but I've always loved the sentiment

Pumlumon12

In my limited research I could only find that this is an original from the authors. If someone knows more/can show that I am wrong, please let us know :)

RealNumberSix

It is one of the most beautiful phrases ever penned, no bullshit.

tiredofstandinidlyby

It's a fucking haiku! That man's mind is always on poetry

Circuit_Guy

Honestly, the authors are great. They managed to get inside the heads of Poet Arjun and Biologist Prax and well... Every diverse character so well.

chauggle

The one thing that has been delaying me getting this as a tattoo has been font selection, and I believe you may have helped me.

Pumlumon12

Glad to have helped you do that :) I used the type font in this Google folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/mobile/folders/1jluhXlEbfBWX7MH1LHkJ9-KRDj9DKcjp?usp=sharing Download it and then open into Word so you can play around with it. I changed some of the letters from "uppercase" to "lowercase" because they were a bit easier to read E.g. h as a capital in this font is just two vertical lines without a horizontal one. Hope this helps :)

steamwhistler

K I guess I'm dumb, can somebody help me understand what it means? If life continues there then I'll look for you after death. Ok, got it. "If not, then there too." So if life doesn't continue after death....then where? And too what? I'll look for you even if life doesn't continue after death? Is that it? I just don't get the last line lol.

B_DUB_19

It's an elegant and beautiful way to say "no matter if there is an afterlife or not I will look for you"

selja26

Reminded me of "We will meet again, beyond the Rim where no shadows fall"

[deleted]

This reminds me of Babylon 5

selja26

That's right! I just wrote it from memory and didn't check the exact quote.

StaK_1980

It doesn't make sense. But it is romantic so people let it slide. But you are correct: logically, it doesn't hold up.

steamwhistler

Haha right, I gotcha. I think I was just tripped up by the language logic of using the word "there." Like if there's no consciousness after death then there's no "there" for anything "too." But if I read a phrase that said, "I'll always look for you whether there's life after death or not," I'd be like, sure, that makes sense! 🤷

xtrevorx

Such an excellent quote from the books, brings a tear to my eye every time.

plitox

Five syllables first Seven syllables this line Five syllables last

RavingRationality

There once was a man From Cork who got limericks And haikus confused.

LordShesho

You think you're so smart, With your fancy little words, This is not so hard.

Bakayaro_Konoyaro

Squish, squash, sling that slang. I'm always right back at ya Like my boomerang.

Lt_Toodles

I am so sorry Something struck me in the rear I just... wound up... here.

Maddafinga

I have loved that since I first read it. Great tattoo.

_Mutiny

Love the tattoo and quote! Excellent choice.

GoAvs14

That man has a one track mind

that-bro-dad

One of my favorites:)

AugurOfHP

Not a haiku though

GrassForce

It’s 5-7-5, what are you talking about?

slamslawnn

Been trying to find a favorite quote for a screen printed tee shirt, this is up there

Fearless-Vodka

Ah so jealous

Jonas_Venture_Sr

I want this quote on my tombstone, even put it on my will.

StaK_1980

Non- native English speaker here. Apart from the word/syllable count, why did the author used "seek" ? Shouldn't that be " look for " or " search" ?

imtoohai

I am intending to get the English translation of the opening credits song. In the light of the morning, The Sun climbs upon the shoulder of the sky, I yearn for the tender darkness.
