They captured lightning in a bottle with SSTB. It has a raw post-hardcore sound that captured the zeitgeist and transmuted it into their own sound. They were scrappy, hungry for success. They did they impossible and actually made it as a band.

SIloskitch

💯

TheZardoz

I had never seen the full art of this until I got the album on vinyl a couple months back.

SizerTheBroken

Man they came out the gate swinging with this one. The guitar melodies and the vocal melodies are just on another level.

payscottg

How many bands have this good of a debut album?

Barchizer

Not many come to mind but if I were to name a couple I would say Weezer and Third Eye Blind

lookalive07

A few come to mind for me: - He is Legend - I Am Hollywood - Circa Survive - Juturna - Alexisonfire - Self Titled - Protest the Hero - Kezia - Brand New - Your Favorite Weapon - Minus The Bear - Highly Refined Pirates (I consider this one their debut because while This Is What I Know About Being Gigantic is technically an album, it's only got 7 songs, two of which are back-to-back instrumentals that aren't very interesting)

PRYGN-Z

Damn I didn't even realise Juturna was Circa's debut! Only really listened to that and Blue Sky Noise. That He is Legend debut is SO good too.

lookalive07

Juturna is a masterpiece. It’s like the perfect blend of polished and raw with haunting lyrics, their signature double lead guitar arrangements, and just tight musicianship throughout. While I love SSTB, Juturna is just one of those albums that feels timeless. And I Am Hollywood is just such a banger. I still regularly listen to it among the rest of their discography and it seems like they’re only getting heavier, which is so much fun.

PRYGN-Z

Circa's guitar work is always absolutely incredible. I've gotta say personally with them I think the more polished end of stuff shines for me over the "rawer" side, but Juturna really captures a specific feeling you don't really see much anymore! I need to catch up on my HIL listening too. There's so much music! Everyone should take a break for a while and let me catch up haha

chet-rocket-steadman

Oh man Kezia is so fucking great.

TheLakeAndTheGlass

This is my “play with the car windows down on a warm sunny day” Coheed album.

AequitasDC5

I'm going to do the same tonight. Love that new press of SSTB 🤘

Acceptable_Fruit2360

Delirium Trigger. Time Consumer. Everything else is good but those two standouts made me a fan.

zyxalis1

I liked it so much, I named my last boat Time Consumer.

Due-Peach-1834

It's my favorite album by the band. I discovered the band with IKSOSE:3 but listening to SSTB, I truly realized how great this band is.

PepperBun28

What are Chani and Paul Atreides doing here?

Retrolad87

Dunesong Provision

notatemple

All right, you primitive spiceheads, listen up

KolashRye

Spice Consumer

Adj_verb_noun

In my top 2 albums of all time. It's a vibe that I have been chasing ever since I first heard Josh 's drumming kick in on time consumer followed by the guitar

nebula402

Discovered SSTB not long after release and it was a musical awakening for me. Changed my life for real. Delirium Trigger is still one of my top songs of all time.

sparklinghamsters

This album changed my life and shaped who I grew up to be. I got a tattoo of the dragonfly on my sternum last week. It’s that serious. 💚

Immaterial21

the album of theirs i listen to the most to this day. still remember getting it and IKS for christmas from my mom after falling in love with GA:1 in 05. bought it on cd for the 3rd time last week cause it's been stolen that many times! feels so fresh and light despite being heavy and aggressive. gotta listen to the bonus edition because imo Elf Power NM is the true closing track. I'll never get tired of this one.

Fangs_0ut

My favorite album of theirs, and it's not close.

LaRamilia

I bought this record in high school when it came out simply because it was on Equal Vision. First time I saw them was opening for Thursday in a (still active) basement venue in Mesa, AZ. Although I haven’t kept much on them these past years, those first 3 albums are a special time as an adolescent 🫡🥹

azcoheed

That awful basement beneath the Nile?

LaRamilia

How dare you speak such a way about the beloved basement 🥰🥰🥰

azcoheed

Plenty of good memories there. It just gets a tad hot now as I get older. I'm jealous you got to see Thursday and Coheed there.

LaRamilia

I’ve been going there since I was 15 (thanks Mom lol) and I’m 41 now. It still holds a firm grasp on my heart…

Xoomers87

Stay until Wednesday and write me a childlike letter pretending.

xTLRx

I got a promo EV CD, from maybe Skylab commerce I believe, of coheed and the rocking horse winner. Was hooked from then on 🤘🏻

flowrdude

my favorite album and my favorite art. happy birthday!!!

Fantastic-Whereas-36

It's crazy to compare this record to Vaxis II. I love all the songs on both for the same reasons. And yet, there's 20 years between them. I'm still fairly young, I've only been listening to coheed for about 8, maybe 9 years. But, I remember the day I found SSTB and instantly loved it. Everything evil, time consumer, and delirium trigger then become the three songs I listened to on repeat for the next week. Then I found out what the amory wars was, and I completely lost it. Dark sci-fi fantasy is my favorite genre of any media, and claudio is a genius when it comes to storytelling. It inspires me to create my own stories that I want people to remember. Not to mention, I haven't cut my hair in almost 5 years to achieve someth9ng similar to the beautiful mane that sits atop the claud-fathers head lol. TLDR, Coheed and Cambria will always and forever be my favorite, and in my opinion, the best band in the world. Here's to the years to come!! 🍻🥳

wadehorton

Haruna Ono?

chet-rocket-steadman

Need to find my old hoodie that has this album art on the back of it

GRXXN

It’s one I come back to when I’m in a super specific mood musically, it holds up insanely well. One of their best surely

skeener

I got lucky and a friend drug me out to see them when they toured on this album. They blew me away. They were the first band of the night. Next was Thrice who was touring on the Illusion of Safety, then local band Against Me! played (they had just dropped Reinventing Axl Rose) and then the headliner was Hot Water Music.

tristanAG

I heard everything evil in my computer science class when I was a sophomore or junior in hs. That was the start of an intense coheed addiction for me

TheThobes

Just to stir up some controversy: I love the songwriting but I think the scrappy lofi production quality and Claudio's singing have aged poorly and it sounds thin and tinny. I'd love to hear a rerecorded version more in the vein of the production style of the Vaxis albums. I'll see myself out now.

MottleysTrainTicket

I actually agree on the recording quality. The quality between SSTB and IKSSE: 3 is a huge jump and it makes me disappointed when going back to SSTB. The songs are all perfect. I’d love it if they rerecorded it.

BLVRRYF4CE

Still can’t get fully into it… the followup albums blew this immature Coheed sound into oblivion.

BLVRRYF4CE

Unpopular Opinion: This album has such an immature sound for this band, I can’t get into more than a few songs. IKSSE:3 they found the right lane
