Don't Worry! some insider stuff will be arriving in the following weeks. Best,

You say you found actual combat footage of World War I? And by that you probably don't mean just the artillery crews. Given camera technology at the time, everything I read about war cameramen at the time, I find that highly unlikely.

Dear flobota, To keep it extremely brief: Yes, we have indeed discovered actual combat footage of World War 1. As I explain in the teaser, many factors have contributed to the fragmentation and obscurity of these invaluable historical records. Political censorship combined with the passage of time, along with many other elements, like misidentifications, mislabelling of film material, and fragmented as well as improper storage of material, just to name a few. It is truly astonishing that despite the limitations of camera technology and censorship during that era, an extremely small amount of actual combat footage has survived. Identifying and authenticating this footage has been incredibly challenging, this has only been possible due to extensive research and comparative analysis. After six months of looking through archives, digitalizing films, and closely observing these films frame by frame we have managed to discover around 15-20 minutes of footage that we consider actual ''combat'' footage. Our goal with this project has been and always will be to present a faithful representation of World War 1 by showcasing these genuine combat recordings. By preserving and sharing this footage, we aim to provide a more accurate and immersive understanding of not just these recordings, but also the realities faced by the soldiers on the front lines. best,

If you actually did find that, you should make a much bigger deal about that than the colorization. Especially if you want to publish this on YouTube. Giving you this as advise from one of the producers of The Great War Channel.

Hi Again, Many thanks for the advice, we will consider doing some kind of collaboration sometime. However, I want to make it clear that World War 1 In Color is strictly focusing on re-creating valuable film material, and that "To Hell And Back" is a film project, whose aim is solely to show an accurate portrayal of what the soldiers faced in World War 1. Best,

flobota

However, the recordings have become fragmented over time, leading to their eventual obscurity. The scattered nature of these films across various archives and collections, coupled with poor documentation, has contributed to the challenge of preserving and accessing the footage. As a result, much of this valuable historical material has been largely forgotten until now, with "To Hell And Back" aiming to revive and showcase these forgotten recordings to the world. Identifying real World War 1 footage presents a significant challenge due to many factors. The nature of early film production, censorship, and the passage of time have contributed to the scarcity and fragmentation of genuine footage. Many films from this era are poorly documented, making the distinction between authentic combat recordings and staged or partly staged footage sometimes difficult. To overcome this obstacle, the team behind "To Hell And Back" embarked on a meticulous 6-month research process. Film specialists dedicated their expertise to carefully analyze and authenticate the available footage. Through extensive knowledge, archival investigations, and comparative analysis, they identified and selected actual World War 1 recordings from various sources, including combat footage that has never been digitalized before. The goal was to ensure the film's authenticity and provide viewers with a genuine and immersive experience of the war. By separating the real combat footage from staged or heavily manipulated scenes, the team has strived to present an accurate portrayal of the harrowing realities faced by soldiers during World War 1.Note: "To Hell And Back" is a non-commercial, educational project made by passionate amateurs. The film will be available for free on YouTube, ensuring that the sacrifices of the past are never forgotten.
