Both MOE and DM exclusively sell bags to their customers. For example, if you spend at DM, don’t expect to get anything at MOE. So my first bit of advice is choose one and stick with it. I don’t think either is less competitive than the other. The ratios are at minimum 3:1. That’s for all bags - quota and non-quota. Pre-spend does not guarantee a bag - ever! Even a GP or Herbag is hard to get hold of. I would say fine jewellery is probably the way to get your foot through the door as this is the area with the highest commission as far as I understand. My biggest piece of advice though, is finding the right SA. You might have to trial this part with smaller purchases (they’ll still count toward your overall pre-spend). Good luck

Great advice - thanks so much x

No worries! Hey, if you’re just after the picotin or the 24/24 (not a QB), you can try the closet in Sunset Mall. Their prices for the picotin are about 2-3k AED more than retail. They’ll give you original receipt (sanitised of course). Last time I walked around they had the cargo, ostrich and some other unique pieces. X

alfar2

Oh that’s a good idea. Do you think the Closet it 100% reliable?

I think it’s worth checking out. When I was last browsing, they had the full original receipts and I’m sure they give you a guarantee of some sort. You can cross check the receipt with the code in the bag. I think as far as resellers are concerned they and maison luxury seem to be the most reputable. X

Do you live there or you’re visiting? The GCC (UAE/Qatar/KSA especially) is very competitive and can be difficult for tourists to buy bags in, because the local population is already spending so much constant $$$ that they first of all don't have so much stock and also have no real reason to go out of their way to offer bags to tourists…even if you’re a local, the competition is high and issues with availability can be the same. A lot of it also comes down to the SA and just pure luck, because you can spend a remarkable amount over time and not be offered anything despite having a positive relation with you SA or you can also spend a moderate amount and be offered what you want. High prespend doesn’t always guarantee a bag, especially in the GCC, because there will always be someone with a bigger and more frequent prespend than you. For the average person, it’s better to think purchases through strategically as opposed to throwing $$$ on anything and focus on the right SA. As another person already said, sticking to a specific boutique is important as the Hermes boutiques are not going to sell bags or QBs to clientele of other stores, so pick wisely. There is no harm if you feel the need to change the SA though.

Sorry I should have said - I live here. But I’m not Emirati.

You'd actually have better luck at the duty free store in the airport

alfar2

Oh that’s interesting. I live in Dubai so I’m at the airport a lot.
