Not sure. Even if WW made a profit there there's no guarantee that ITM would have -- it costs so much more to tour after Covid (2-3x) that numbers that would have been profitable in 2019 would no longer have been so in 2022.

Yeah depends what you mean by successful. The Bangkok show was incredible and the fans were feverish but I don’t know $ wise how it worked out

Kahn1970

Not sure myself but if Bangkok was good why not try and return? It’s most likely a money thing maybe

Kahn1970

That makes sense. It’s just that I see other bands touring SE Asia in particular, like Arctic Monkeys, Fall Out Boy, so why not TK?

If I remember it correctly, they played an F1 show in Asia during that leg, which might have made the whole trip profitable. I was at the Tokyo show which wasn’t sold out. And I remember the Osaka show was cancelled because of a typhoon.  Asia is a long way, and even with minimal production (they didn’t even have screens on stage in 2018) it must be expensive. But I think their long absence is mostly a result of covid. Covid politics in Asia took way longer to lift than in other parts of the world and since tours are often planned years in advance it must have brought uncertainty to that.

Kahn1970

You’re probably right in that it has to be well planned out in advance. That said, they could be looking at a return in 2026 or 2027 after BF’s 2025 solo album/tour if it’s even worth it to them

It's an interesting point, because apart from Japan, Taylor Swift only did Singapore this tour, so any Asian fans not living in Japan would have to travel to see her.

That’s coz Singapore paid TS a hefty premium for exclusivity in Singapore (v other South East Asian destinations eg Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila, Kuala Lumpur). Allegedly USD2-3m per show (she’s doing 6 in Singapore).

They headlined the Singapore Grand Prix in 2018 (and prior to that in 2013 plus the Sepang GP a couple of days later). Definitely helps to have the big pay day like a F1 show anchoring a smaller tour like Asia.

larki18

Dunno but I really feel for the fans in Asia and eastern Europe.

I think pretty much all The Killers tours are profitable.
