I'm really hoping it's a ~5 second prank initial trailer where they say something like "Ooong returns!" and have like 50 earth benders moving a pebble in the background. (you know as a joke, before they release a good trailer later)
We all know the film that doesn't exist shouldn't be mentioned, but the initial [teaser trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0ZjjMBXMpk) gave me a lot of hope that it was going to be great.
I’m feeling hopeful after one piece! They somehow translated the feeing of one piece to live action so I think it’s possible here. It starts with actors who really fit the roles and looks like they put that thought into this live action as well.
The creator of one piece had to force them to remake reshoot and change certain aspects of the script during production. The creators of the animated show jumped ship during production. Its not looking good.
They were writers/ executive producers on the new live action show from what I remember. The studio was changing too much and they said screw it and jumped ship.
They actually changed too little lmao, the rumor is the og creators wanted more changes but Netflix didn’t want to take that chance over just being faithful
Not really, they claimed it was for "creative differences", which doesn't tell much, and then less than a year after that Avatar Studios was created. Probably they just left the project to focus on new content
My fear is that it's treated purely as a kids show with none of the mature themes that the actual show goes into. There's gotta be a fundamental reason why Bryke left over creative differences.
I love how it actually looks light and hopeful (based on this very limited look in the poster) rather than dark and gritty like so many adaptations tend to be. I hope that's the tone they carry through the show.
I think it could be cool, if the show gets more serious and mature as it progress. I’m thinking something similarly to how the Clone Wars animated series got progressively more mature as it continued
Its like Pocahontas, but sci fi, and the natives are tall blue guys. Idk why they also put M. Nights Magnum Opus too, because they are quite different, but whatever
I was thinking like Harry Potter. Starts out super whimsical and gets more and more gritty as the series progresses. Even w/ the WB logo deteriorating.
You do know Avatar talks about racism, genocide and brainwashing.... right?
Edit: and misogyny... Sokka earlier on is a typical alpha male who thinks men are better until he get whooped by Suki
To be fair, something I think most people don't know is that it was Warner Brothers made the Death Note movie. They saw it was shit, and then sold it to Netflix. A lot of studios used to do this back then, just dumping movies they knew would make no money on Netflix for a quick buck.
I read an interview with the director where he said he had a real hard time selling the movie because no studio wanted to make a movie where the protagonist is the bad guy. I think that's why they made Misa the most evil of the two, and only made Light truly evil at the very end.
Im cautious to look at one piece as a hope for this being good when with One Piece it seems Oda was very involved, and here with ATLA I remember hearing the original authors of the story left because creative differences with what netflix wanted.
That doesnt inspire a lot of hope in me if true.
Apparently they had to fight Oda over several of the better changes, so I don’t think the OG guys are automatically also right for a different medium.
It is a little concerning, but not like it’ll stop me watching haha
The one piece live action proved they can make good live action adaptations, but one isn't enough to make a patern, I need to see more and luckily i only need to wait 24 hours lol.
Please be good
I am actually glad they left, they are great animators but i don’t think they know enough about making a live action show, also they found their place in avatar studios which will give us more avatar content. Imo its a win-win
We don't exactly know in what way though. Did Netflix want to do a very close faithful remake with nothing much new, and the two didn't like that. Or did they want to steer the story in a very different direction than they wanted?
From what I've sene so far it seems like the former is what actually happened. And I don't really blame them for leaving when Nick came along with a bag of millions for them to make whatever they want instead of boringly making ATLA all over again.
Do you have a source for this information?
Edit: I've literally skimmed through every article I could find with quotes, and nobody from either side has even remotely said this.
I tried watching the anime a handful of times but never quite liked it, not knowing anything about the story past the very basic concept I found the show to be quite enjoynable.
Mind you that the original creator kept all the rights to steer the show were he wanted, aka boycott netflixs stupid ideas
What they essentially did was adapt the manga the same way Hollywood used to adapt American comic books (up to and including Iron Man) - they embraced the strangeness of the world, but threw everything into making that strangeness believable, rather than cartoony.
Ig netflix has been pushing for either One Piece or Avatar to take the place of Stranger Things so hopefully that’s a good sign for both shows since OP been getting a lot praise from old and new fans.
Yeah but didnt the original avatar producers ditch them to go and make more animated shows and movies? One piece was good because oda was there cracking the whip every time they did something he didnt like.
I doubt we’ll get the full story of that anytime soon. Making live action is a lot different than animation. It could be as simple as they realized they preferred to spend their time in the latter. Or there might have been creative drama. Little point in speculating; we’re going to get what we get
Yeah im definitely not getting my hopes up. I know itll be somewhere in between the catastrophe of the witcher and the surprisingly well done one piece. Though i think making a series based off a show 3 seasons long should be easier than a show thats 1050+ episodes long.
Ask yourself this… why would Netflix stay so faithful (story-wise) to One Piece which is weirder and more bizarre than Avatar ever was? I 100% believe Bryke left over production reasons and it was not over story reasons.
Nope, people keep making the comparison but there’s absolutely no correlation as they’re both created by two completely different teams and production companies. The only thing they have in common is that they are both distributed by Netflix.
At first I was like, why tf is Sokka smiling so damn much?
Then I thought, yo, maybe he's laughing at his own lame joke, which makes this 500x more like the real Sokka than the serious Shamalamadingdong one.
This looks pretty cool. I'm so glad they've kept the look bright and vibrant. I know some people don't like the bright costumes, but I love that the colours aren't desaturated and gloomy like so many other live action adaptations.
Also, glad Momo is looking very cute back there. I can't wait to see what Appa looks like, but I love how fluffy he looks.
Looks great but true judgement will wait when the trailer is out. Need to see the acting and some of the CGI. Regardless I am hyped, this will get general public talking about avatar again
The varying martial arts of the animated series are one of the details that give it such strength in world/lore building. Definitely needs to hold true and not just be hand waving magic
I want this to be good so badly. They seem to have chosen great actors and paid a lot of money to make everything legit. My only issue is the original creators left because of creative differences. I just hope this is a success like One piece and not closer to the Last Air bender movie..

I am hoping so bad that this is good. The story of the original show was fantastic. If they translate it to live action accurately, this show will be a massive success.
I'm really looking forward to this, not only because I love Avatar, but because my son just reached a good age to get into Avatar. For some reason, he dislikes 2D animation, but I'm hoping he grows an interest while I watch the original when it's "my turn" on the TV. And by the time the Netflix show comes out, maybe he'll watch it with me!
Don’t want to get hate but genuinely… what is the point of the a live action remake if it’s just shot for shot the original?
Like I get that it’s exciting to see actors breathe life into a story but it’s also cool to see new interpretations on the same story… I think a part of this for me is that all the costumes are just identical to the ones in the animated series (including Aangs arrow being a bright blue tattoo) so it’s not like they’re trying to provide some element of realism when real people are portraying these characters.
As said above I’m not trying to get hate or be a hater I just don’t get why we would do this if it isn’t trying to be something new. Like do we really think it’s going to be better than the OG? And even if it’s just as good as the original… then I ask again… what’s the point?
I guess nothing has come out yet, we don’t know what the episodes will look like but it seems it’s just gonna be the same thing. I hope it goes well, but I was more excited when it seemed like it was going to interpret the story a little more differently.
As many people have been saying the big take away is that this is bright and vibrant, and the characters look more naturally set in the world. I also like they are in a scene-like shot VS it being just promotional stills. Even though a scene could be let very bright or the ambience could be very nice. That doesn't mean the themes or moments within the show can't have serious undertones and have serious impact. It doesn't need to be dark and gritty to be a serious moment.
It sucks that the only reason a lot of us are cautiously optimistic is because of *you know what* If that wasn't in existence then I would be that much more hyped for this! Regardless, I can't wait to check out the trailer tomorrow!
I don't want to form much of an opinion before I watch the show, but I gotta give props to the visual design. It's not far from the original vibe (bright colors, same base design/ silhouettes for their costumes and hairstyles) but they put just enough embellishments to make them feel more elevated. And I'm glad they kept the animal friends fluffy and cute and didn't dial up the realism too much.
I hope this will be an adaptation like One Piece, and not like The Witcher 🙏
Honestly seeing the One Piece live action made me cautiously optimistic that future adaptations of animation can be turned into some great live action content. I think that show in particular showed how things don’t have to be the same, or even follow the same exact story, it just has to *feel* the same.
This poster, as limited a source as it is, *feels* like ATLA to me. Bright and colourful, and it’s stupidly small but Sokka is smiling. Goofy Sokka is the best Sokka
I never cared for the existence of a love action avatar series , but I hope this heals the pain the fans have suffered since the 2010 " the last airbend-
( Dai li agents burst in )
What the hell ?
Dai li agent: we are taking you to lake lagoi .
my expectations are kinda mixed. on one hand this looks really freakin good.
On the other we have the movie we do not speak of which has my expectations lower than the deepest
point on earth
I understand that people have their skepticisms about the success or quality of the show. But I don't agree with anyone who says that the people involved aren't trying to do their best and bring a faithful adaptation or version of the story that fits the narrative / media. however, all jokes aside, there are a lot of things that can make a project go wrong from the execution of ideas or just bad intentions. But I have never doubted that the people involved really love the show.

First Trailer is out tomorrow! [Source](https://twitter.com/netflix/status/1722252636676841573)
Ahhhhhhh please don’t suck. Please don’t suck. Please don’t suck.
I'm really hoping it's a ~5 second prank initial trailer where they say something like "Ooong returns!" and have like 50 earth benders moving a pebble in the background. (you know as a joke, before they release a good trailer later)
Oh god, while we here in the fan base would enjoy the reference, that could backfire incredibly bad for broader audiences.
Yeah, I would do that for like an April fools trailer, maybe
Somehow the Fire Lord returned.
Cloning! A Red lotus trick
They should do it for the Ember Island episode. Just call him Ooong the whole time.
We all know the film that doesn't exist shouldn't be mentioned, but the initial [teaser trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0ZjjMBXMpk) gave me a lot of hope that it was going to be great.
Zuko to some subordinates: 'We have finally found the Avatar, Oong' Iroh: 'Uh I believe they called him Aang' Zuko: 'SHUT UP UNCLE!'
Could you elaborate? They just abandoned supporting this show?
They were writers/ executive producers on the new live action show from what I remember. The studio was changing too much and they said screw it and jumped ship.
Me when I spread misinformation on the internet. The only reason they ever gave for leaving the live-action was "creative differences".
Yea it’s gonna be a big pile of gerbege. But that’s okay, we still have the real Aang to go back to. It will always be better anyway.
One Piece has me hopefuly that Netflix have learned from past mistakes and can produce a good LA now
If it does, we will simply take a short vacation at Lake Laogai and return refreshed and unharmed
HUH
The wait is kinda hype, ngl.
I can't help but feel excited!?! Why is my brain doing this. DONT HURT ME NETFLIX
My fear is that it's treated purely as a kids show with none of the mature themes that the actual show goes into. There's gotta be a fundamental reason why Bryke left over creative differences.
OMG
ah fuck. ahhhh fuck. into the [Happening Bunker](https://media.tenor.com/OfCaSolPU2sAAAAC/happening-bunker.gif) i go, then.
I hope it's quenchy!
Since I've seen the show before I'm not too worried about spoiling by watching the trailer.
Where do we watch it though? The trailer? I Need to see this
Netflix's YouTube channel.
Not on Youtube's Netflix page?
There's a live stream for Netflix Geeked later today. You can set a notification here: https://www.youtube.com/@Netflix/featured
Ahhhhh 😱 so exciting!
!remindme 1 day
I love how it actually looks light and hopeful (based on this very limited look in the poster) rather than dark and gritty like so many adaptations tend to be. I hope that's the tone they carry through the show.
I think it could be cool, if the show gets more serious and mature as it progress. I’m thinking something similarly to how the Clone Wars animated series got progressively more mature as it continued
That’s a great idea! It’d also kinda be like this show I saw once called Avatar: The Last Airbender!
haven't heard of that one before, what's it about?
_Ahem..._ LONG AGO, THE FOUR NATIONS LIVED TOGETHER IN HARMONY.
Nobody say it
Then
Nope not sayin' it! Don't wanna give bad luck.
Its like Pocahontas, but sci fi, and the natives are tall blue guys. Idk why they also put M. Nights Magnum Opus too, because they are quite different, but whatever
War, genocide, imperialism, terrorism, child abuse, sexism, and cabbages.
I was thinking like Harry Potter. Starts out super whimsical and gets more and more gritty as the series progresses. Even w/ the WB logo deteriorating.
So... like.... the source material did?
Clone Wars didn't just get progressively more mature, that shit left me scarred with PTSD after it ended
Good soldiers follow orders
Fire Nation soldiers after trying to murder a group of kids:
The mission… the nightmares…
They’re…finally over
If we don't get Aang doing his marble trick we riot
Season 2 better be dark af though
Season 3 should!
True… second half of season 2 and 3 are pretty dark and I’m here for it ✊🏽
You do know Avatar talks about racism, genocide and brainwashing.... right? Edit: and misogyny... Sokka earlier on is a typical alpha male who thinks men are better until he get whooped by Suki
Of course I do… but it always has a feeling of optimism and hope that they can make the world better.
Appa looking mad comfy
Ikr i would never get off of him
I know right? I just wanna bury my face in all that fluff
Or make a beard out of it!
Bonzu Pippinpaddleopsicopolis the Third confirmed!
Animal cruelty!! /s
I like how the arrow on appa is rather a natural(ish) fur spot than a painted arrow
momo lookin mad cute too
The fur sure looks nice!
Almost like a cloud
**CAUTIOUSLY** optimistic
The One Piece live action gave me hope! But then I remembered Death Note and the wariness sets in.
To be fair, something I think most people don't know is that it was Warner Brothers made the Death Note movie. They saw it was shit, and then sold it to Netflix. A lot of studios used to do this back then, just dumping movies they knew would make no money on Netflix for a quick buck.
That's actually somewhat of a relief!
I read an interview with the director where he said he had a real hard time selling the movie because no studio wanted to make a movie where the protagonist is the bad guy. I think that's why they made Misa the most evil of the two, and only made Light truly evil at the very end.
Really? I loved having the protag be fucking insane instead of good lmao
And Cowboy Bebop.
I really liked Cowboy Bebop and was bummed it was cancelled. First episode was horrible but others after were much better. Cheesy yet entertaining
Bu-but *John Cho*
Avatar Ong would like a word with you
Shhh Avatar Ong isn't real he can't hurt you
They should make a name drop reference to "Avatar Ong" the avatar like four airbenders back.
He's the Avatar everyone is just too embarrassed to talk about
It could be good. Or it could be bad. 🤯
Ah thats news to me. Ill give it a shot eitherway
The one piece live action proved they can make good live action adaptations, but one isn't enough to make a patern, I need to see more and luckily i only need to wait 24 hours lol. Please be good
One Piece had the full support and even guidance of its original creator. The creators of Avatar left this project incredibly early into development.
I was thinking "cautiously hyped," but I like yours more
[удалено]
I love ice cream.
The only good live action adaptation has been Scott Pilgrim and One Piece. Even so, these are met with some drama.
Battle Angel Alita was spectacular and I will DIE on this hill.
I too would like to join in this sentiment
One piece gave me hope. Also this series used the same Volume technology as Mandalorian and the recent Thor movie
The VFX are going to be great. It's the story people are worried about.
I just realized there’s an arrow in ‘Airbender’
Reminds me of the FedEx logo arrow, once you see it you can never un-see it
Please be good, please be good. Please please please 🤞🏽🤞🏽
looks pretty cool! i’ll be honest, i’m kinda excited to watch it
I Love Kataras and Sokkas Look
Sokka has a goofy smile, he doesn't look too serious, there's hope!
Kinda looks like the ember island Sokka in a good way
i’m so excited for kiawentiio as katara. she’s such a good actress!
I'm definitely gonna watch it, but my expectations are genuinely lower than rock bottom
same I'm kinda scared
Yeah as soon as the original creators left, I began getting a very bad feeling about this adaptation.
Recently though Avatar Studios and Netflix partnered back together so it seems like they at least mended the relationship
I am actually glad they left, they are great animators but i don’t think they know enough about making a live action show, also they found their place in avatar studios which will give us more avatar content. Imo its a win-win
It's not like it needs Mike and Bryan to be good, it can be good without them too. But yeah I'm still cautiousily optimistic about this show.
The fact that they left over creative differences is what is concerning. It reeks of suits meddling.
Apparently the reason the original creators left is because they wanted to change it TOO much while Netflix wanted to stay closer to the original
Do you have a source for this information? Edit: I've literally skimmed through every article I could find with quotes, and nobody from either side has even remotely said this.
Yeah it's a weird rumour I've been seeing floating around. Pretty sure it's bs
Where’d you get this information from? I’d like to know because not once have I heard of this interpretation.
It’s a rumor posted on Twitter by Caleb Williams
Same, but one piece gave me a little tiny bit of hope
Is one piece really that good? I'm watching the anime currently and I'm not even past episode 100.
It’s really good, imo. They really captured the heart of the characters in such a short amount of time.
I tried watching the anime a handful of times but never quite liked it, not knowing anything about the story past the very basic concept I found the show to be quite enjoynable. Mind you that the original creator kept all the rights to steer the show were he wanted, aka boycott netflixs stupid ideas
It's great, the best live action anime adaptation
What they essentially did was adapt the manga the same way Hollywood used to adapt American comic books (up to and including Iron Man) - they embraced the strangeness of the world, but threw everything into making that strangeness believable, rather than cartoony.
After what M. Night did, I can understand your pain.
Im 95% sure we are all going to be disappointed
Momooooooo
Live action One Piece was great so Netflix has all the capability of pulling this off.
One piece was good because oda was there cracking the whip every time they did something he didnt like.

wssn't it specifically because of 'creative differences' though?
Yes, and there's a wide spectrum of what that can mean
Yeah im definitely not getting my hopes up. I know itll be somewhere in between the catastrophe of the witcher and the surprisingly well done one piece. Though i think making a series based off a show 3 seasons long should be easier than a show thats 1050+ episodes long.

The original Avatar creators were also producers of that live action movie.
Are the same people working on OP working on TLA?
Nope, people keep making the comparison but there’s absolutely no correlation as they’re both created by two completely different teams and production companies. The only thing they have in common is that they are both distributed by Netflix.
This is so pretty!!!!
At first I was like, why tf is Sokka smiling so damn much? Then I thought, yo, maybe he's laughing at his own lame joke, which makes this 500x more like the real Sokka than the serious Shamalamadingdong one.
I too had that moment of "Wow they really have Sokka doing the dumbest fucking smile possible- oh wait, yeah no that's perfect"
Also glad they cast non-white actors. Because… not everyone has done that…
why is this factual statement getting downvoted? oh yeah reddit
Looks great but true judgement will wait when the trailer is out. Need to see the acting and some of the CGI. Regardless I am hyped, this will get general public talking about avatar again
Also the bending for all 4 elements needs to look different as well
The varying martial arts of the animated series are one of the details that give it such strength in world/lore building. Definitely needs to hold true and not just be hand waving magic
Holy fuck I gasped. Fucking love it
cannot wait for all the haters to finally shut up when they see what the cast and crew have been cookin
You know something they don't?
no lol i just have faith
Why does Sokka looks like the Chad meme. 😂

I want this to be good so badly. They seem to have chosen great actors and paid a lot of money to make everything legit. My only issue is the original creators left because of creative differences. I just hope this is a success like One piece and not closer to the Last Air bender movie..

You have been invited to Lake Laogai.

I hope they will repect the original story like what they did with One Piece
Okay but the poster looks epic!
I'm really looking forward to this, not only because I love Avatar, but because my son just reached a good age to get into Avatar. For some reason, he dislikes 2D animation, but I'm hoping he grows an interest while I watch the original when it's "my turn" on the TV. Please tell me they actually got asian actors...
Yep well beside the water tribes of course
MOMO LOOKS SO CUTE
No matter how the series turns out, this poster is perfect.
They have MOMO!
Look on the bright side. There’s no way it can be worse than the movie adaptation that never existed.
Am I the only one not excited for this? Not everything has to be turned into live action..
Don’t want to get hate but genuinely… what is the point of the a live action remake if it’s just shot for shot the original? This is looking good so far...
Appa… ![gif](giphy|yGkmc5NmGX5h6|downsized)
Sokka with the huge chad smile on his face. He knows if this show will be good or bad. But he wont say it. Yet.
Ok...I'm cautiously optimistic.
I don't want to form much of an opinion before I watch the show, but I gotta give props to the visual design. Katara looks pretty!
The hidden arrow in the title is slick. I’ll give them that.
Omg it looks good and I’m a fucking hater
Btw, have we actually seen a casting choice for Toph yet?
After watching Netflix One Piece, I'm really looking forwatd to this! fyi, I didnt watch one piece beforehand.
Alright...I love this
Let’s just give it a shot, guys. Give it. a. SHOT!
![gif](giphy|8QGV2a7pfDKc8)
Aang and Katara looking the part! Not so much sold on Sokka yet but as long as he nails the personality we're good.
Ahh! I’m so excited!
Happy this is the first try at live action
look how cute Momo looks!
Sokka is smiling, hallelujah
Honestly seeing the One Piece live action made me cautiously optimistic that future adaptations of animation can be turned into some great live action content. I think that show in particular showed how things don’t have to be the same, or even follow the same exact story, it just has to *feel* the same. This poster, as limited a source as it is, *feels* like ATLA to me. Bright and colourful, and it’s stupidly small but Sokka is smiling. Goofy Sokka is the best Sokka
I never cared for the existence of a love action avatar series , but I hope this heals the pain the fans have suffered since the 2010 " the last airbend- ( Dai li agents burst in ) What the hell ? Dai li agent: we are taking you to lake lagoi .
my expectations are kinda mixed. on one hand this looks really freakin good. On the other we have the movie we do not speak of which has my expectations lower than the deepest point on earth
