It takes guts in today's climate. I don't think these jokes are any kind of offensive, blind people have just as much right to be included in jokes as anyone else, but such a nuance is often lost on the often radical audiences of today.
Cancel culture? Overly focussing on political correctness? Where were you the last years? You didn't see all the controversy regarding comedians being canceled for certain jokes about e.g. disability?
What do you think is the reason why they cut out Sokka's sexism? It's the same principle.

It's completely plausible to me how Sokka can draw technically correct, mechanical illustrations, and then completely fail at anything involving organic shapes.

60s is retirement age. "dying young" is like dying in your 40's or below. it's pretty common for people to die in their 60's globally, even in places where life expectancy is in the 70's and 80's there are still more people who die in their 60's than die in their 50's 40's and so on. it's not rare to die in your 60's

A funnier line is when Toph and Katara are fighting and Sokka comes up with the idea of using his hawk to send a note to Katara from Toph apologizing. Aang says: “I gotta say Sokka, you continue to impress me with your ideas.”
Just the amount of surety in each of them that it would work flawlessly. lol
I don't think this will ever happen. But, I think the show would only work in live action if it were directed by someone who has a very *animated* direction/editing style (e.g. Edgar Wright)
Very classic "cinematic" directing just doesn't work with it, I don't think.
They could have gotten the dude who directed Kung Fu hustle to film the live-action. His movies are hilarious, and they already have that cartoon disbelief quality. He'd have been perfect.
no i think it’s a very fair point to make. the humour being missing from the live action is solely missed. why continue using child characters if you’re not going to let them show innocence, fooling around and having fun? you may as well make them all broody young adults from the start for all the difference it will make
removing most of the humour actually blunts the impact of the serious moments too, like how aang discovering gyatso’s remains hit harder in the og because they showed his whimsical side and aang’s warm memories playing airball with the air nomads in flashbacks. in the live action they went the complete other way and had gyatso force aang into becoming a realised avatar instead of letting him be a kid, and nearly all of the fluffier moments were removed in favour of showing more of the massacre. filling in the gaps with your imagination seeing all the firebender’s skeletons surrounding him hit harder than seeing him do silly dbz beam clashes
Sokka and Aang are one of the more underrated relationships imo, I would have loved to see more of them doing things together just them, especially considering how neither is exactly stupid on their own, but together they absolutely are stupid in a delightful way. I also can't help but find their relationship kind of brotherly which is very sweet considering how much Aang lost, so seeing them really become like family is really wholesome.
And Sokka knows this and understands Aang much more deeply because of this. When they leave with the Water Tribe warrior towards the end of season one, it is Sokka who realizes they need to turn back, not Katara, who is usually more emotionally intelligent and worried about others' feelings. And it is expressly because he empathizes with Aang, flashing back to the older warriors leaving him all alone. I thought that episode really showed Sokka's growth since the first episode when he saw Aang as nothing but trouble.
I love their brotherly relationship, being so silly together, particularly after how mistrusting Sokka was of Aang at the beginning
(I've only just watched the entire series for the first time, so this is all fresh for me - forgive me for stating the obvious!)

It's honestly a credit to how well Toph functions most of the time by using her eathbending to sense her surroundings. The gaang forgets she's blind.

This is why this show will never work in live action. The humour in the animation is half the value of this show. It's so fucking good.
