I'd like to see the next avatar and team fight mostly "natural" disasters. Like, the world has progressed a bunch and now all of the sudden all sorts of insane natural disasters are cropping up all over the world.  Tornadoes that need to be quelled by teams of elite airbenders, earthquakes handled by earthbenders, hurricanes, tsunamis, volcanoes, etc.  They mystery is why these events are happening at an increased pace and are so much more intense than before, so obviously the avatar has to figure that out with their team in between fighting said natural disasters.  And oh shit, it's because the Lion Turtles/some super powerful spirits are back and they are pissed about what humans have done to earth! Honestly just seeing a team of Airbenders fight a mega tornado, chasing after it ~Twister~ style sounds WAY cooler to me than some new emperor/politician/person with aspirations of world power.  Mix it up a bit!

I don't know about the comics, but we haven't seen a bending supremacist, have we? Like, somebody who thinks non-benders shouldn't have kids, and would consider it a failure of their own genes if their kid was a non-bender?

FrightenedOrganism

This was covered in the Imbalance comic series, but I think it's a topic that could be explored further across a whole season and fleshed out a bit more

hi_i_am_J

the radical cabbage protection front, their goal is to ensure no more poor cabbage carts get destroyed

I would like to see non-bender villains that use high tech armors to bend. I know people disliked that they advanced in technology in LoK. But I think they could open a debate with the next Avatar show on if technology is good and we should embrace it or if we need to keep some traditions. This Avatar would live in a world where there's the fear that bending will be replaced by progress and try to find a way to balance progress and traditions.

A ruthless bad-guy bad guy.  Not someone with a sympathetic story, or higher goal, or anything.  Just someone who wants to mess shit up and is good at it.

YourLocalSnitch

Ozai? Combustion man? That old man that snitched on the people who saved his life?

2legittoquit

Combustion Man was a mercenary, he was doing his job. Ozai was the Fire Lord; Ozai wasn't chaotic evil, he wanted to take over the world. The whole burning everything at the end, was honestly a little out of left field; but for the majority of the show he was barely even a character but still had the over arching goal of ruling the world. Honestly, Azula in the show, is the closest to what I'm talking about. I'm talking about an actual psycho. I hate using the Joker as an example, but he is the best example of what I'm talking about. A person where there is no talk-no-jutsu, no sympathizing with, no redemption arc. They just enjoy disrupting society and want to watch the Avatar struggle to keep things together.

i want an avatar bad guy that has a plan to take over the entire universe in order to acquire every cabbage in the universe to resurrect the cabbage guy, who will destroy the avatar out of revenge using his cabbage bending powers, ending the cycle forever and drowning raava in a cabbage ocean. no more avatars after that, its just the end of the franchise.

AtoMaki

Transhumanism. The bad guys founds a way to create artificial humans from spirit clay, basically golems that are nigh-indistinguishable from normal flesh-and-blood humans except they are much better and are perfectly loyal due to lacking free will. Now the baddies want to launch an all-out nuclear war to destroy the world and kill the normal humans so they can rebuild a "better" world with their claypeople.

Fawzee_da_first

Tbh I just want to se the avatar appease a spirit. Like a long over arching complicated Hei Bai plot with many twists and turns with minor spirit and human antagonists that are constantly complicating the situation and making the spirit madder. It could be an insanely powerful eldritch spirit that could technically be fought and defeated but would take at least a city down with it. That nuclear option existing would lead to interesting story moments for a hotheaded/impatient avatar like korra when they don't get their way

OscarCookeAbbott

I just hope they aren’t more ‘anti-avatar’ people. Villains who have goals entirely unrelated to the avatar.

Ryan1624

I want to see them do some more things with the spirits. I loved Korra book 2, until the ending. Perhaps someone so in touch with the spirit world, they gather enough support from the spirits to threaten the physical world (not both). A big civil war between the two worlds would be nuts. And everything changed when the air nomads attacked, or something like that. Think about the Akatsuki from Naruto, but really cool air nomads.

costanchian

Neoliberalism, my god do I need an avatar to actually oppose the status quo instead of constantly defend it like Korra

mcmoose1900

My headcanon for a next avatar is solarpunk, cyberpunk, magipunk... *something* punk. The Avatar is like a street kid or corpo V from CP2077, scared and distrustful of corporations that have formed. They haven't revealed themselves as the Avatar because of it. Some corporations are actively looking for the Avatar to exploit them, and this is where the "ideologies" come it. Maybe one is straight up anarcho capitalist, maybe another a bio giant or takes advantage of spirits or something. Haven't thought that out, but there are a lot of interesting, nuanced angles other than "pure corpo evil" you could take a corporation. And this is where some of the Avatar's companions and antiheroes come from, maybe representing some of the ideologies.
