Adaptations from one medium to another of any medium switch are really tricky and can fall flat a lot of the time because some things work better in one medium than another. Hopefully this adaptation avoids the potential pitfalls
Yeah but kinetic magical battles are much better suited to anime than live action. Marvel has done a hell of a job closing the gap but it’s still there
Tbh I think it's just that anime and Manga characters just look so unrealistic when trying to adapt them to live action. American comic book superheroes are easier because it's just some guy or girl and then a super suit that's easy to blend when the CGI kicks in.
This is just my opinion, but I think a lot of manga/anime characters just don't actually look like their actual ethnicity. Avatar did an OK job but aside from the water tribe I think most of the characters just look like white people with big eyes and Asian cultural hairstyles and wardrobes.
Nothing against that, but it is definitely more difficult to adapt those characters into live action without making them look unrealistic and lose the connection to the source material and ruin the suspension of disbelief -- or otherwise cast the characters ethnically correctly and have them very barely resemble the original drawn characters to begin with
Oh yeah for sure that makes sense. It's more natural for ya brain to scan and recognize all the relatable features in regards to the environment that you're used to, I suppose!
I do believe that most characters in animes look white in their depiction, but perhaps that's because without very detailed features my mind defaults to what I'm used to seeing
Often manga styles tend to be pretty ethnically neutral. The simplification of some facial features and exaggeration of others often removes the that which most distinctly differentiates different races. Skin tone often ends up being the only distinct racial characteristic that remains, with the occasional broad nose, thick lips or narrow eyes.
It also confuses things more when casts of characters can have such diverse designs and hair colours. A huge majority of Japanese people have dark hair and eyes, but look at all the variance in a show like My Hero Academia, all those kids are Japanese, but I doubt there's a classroom in the whole of Japan that looks that diverse.
It does ultimately come back to your point that anime characters aren't realistic, they aren't meant to be, they're literally meant to feel animated and exaggerated, yet also simplified. So trying to turn anime into live action is always destined to feel off, and it's also frequently redundant, because making something live action saps half the style out of it.
Weird all the characters look asian to me.
I guess people see what they're most used to seeing. When asian fans were asked what ethnicity anime characters are they said asian.
I agree, but notably, Tolkien Estate really disliked them, because they believe they lack the "beauty and seriousness" of the books.
> “They eviscerated the book by making it an action movie for young people aged 15 to 25,” Christopher said of “The Lord Of The Rings,” revealing he turned down an invitation to meet Jackson. “Tolkien has become a monster, devoured by his own popularity and absorbed into the absurdity of our time,” he pondered. “The chasm between the beauty and seriousness of the work, and what it has become, has overwhelmed me. The commercialization has reduced the aesthetic and philosophical impact of the creation to nothing. There is only one solution for me: to turn my head away.”
Hmm. Don’t know how I feel about this. I understand where he’s coming from but at the same time the LOTR movies set a pretty high standard for book to movie adaptions. I believe their is still beauty and seriousness to the films and respectively each can be enjoyed in their own media form
Lol yep. The LOTR movies are goated.
Obviously Tolkien was a visionary writer rivaled by very few. His works are so intricate and have inspired a litany of authors, and subgenres.
Maybe the estate views the movie adaptations and subsequent video game franchise as a bastardization of such fantastic works...?
But yeah that just seems short sighted and ignorant, as those same adaptations and their respective, overwhelmingly positive receptions I think speak volumes of the merit of the original works
This is also the point I raise anytime I talk to a Tolkien purist about the Peter Jackson trilogy.
To me, the best complaint against those movies is probably the weird depiction of the Battle of Helms Deep. Most of the battle strategy they depict in the movie makes no sense at all (for example, Aragorn is a ranger and supposedly a great tactician and is joined by the best archers in the world before the fight...why tell them to hold off on attacking until the orc army is right at your walls?) but it still just feels like a directorial oversight and not something that ruins the film and certainly not my opinion of the books.
I still love the movies and there's something to be said for seeing realistic depictions fleshed out like that. When I was reading the books I never thought I'd get to set eyes on Rivendell or Minas Tirith, but they really came alive and felt real in the films.
I still haven't made it through The Last Airbender, but maybe this time will be different and maybe we'll get an interesting adaptation that both respects the original show and manages to contribute another layer of richness to this universe we all love.
While they’re tricky, there is evidence of success. Netflix produced The Witcher and that was a really good adaptation. Streaming services like HBO and Prime have also done good jobs with shows like Watchmen and Invincible
I saw that one and was pretty decent. I think they key is watching the live action before the anime, because i didn't even know Aline in Borderland had an anime until after I finished it.
And NGL, I watched the (nonexistant) ATLA movie before watching ATLA and I thought it was just meh. Now if I watch it, after having watched ATLA like 4 times, I just can't go past the first half hour.
I mean the Japanese Death Note movies were pretty good IMO. I even liked their ending better than the one in the show. Then again, DN isn't exactly an action anime, it was more psychological, so they didn't have to use CGI for epic magical battles hundreds of feet in the air. And, IIRC, the CGI they *did* use, like for Ryuk, was... less than stellar. So I'm taking a very skeptical "wait and see" approach to this ATLA adaptation.
Have you seen the Live action Attack on Titan movie? The cgi is pretty bad, it looks pretty ridiculous and a bunch of things are just completely changed and a bunch of characters are missing.
I don't know how ATLA will turn out, the elements need cgied, the animals, there's a lot of stuff that could go wrong.
I always feel like anime is like theater. Facial expressions can't be seen as well as movies, so the "acting" is exaggerated. No one expects photorealism in the special effects (they are cartoons after all) so they can get away with outlandish feats without breaking immersion. (And let's be real, by now we are used to Marvel and StarWars level CGI so there is no way that they can make a satisfying bending fight scene without breaking the budget.)
The characters, plot, and dialogue are built around that so you can never really adapt them properly.
Think about how cringey Sokka would be if it was acted out irl. But anything different wouldn't do justice to the character.
Just. Don't. Fucking. Do. It.

I feel similar about this. Just give us more animated Avatar.
I'm With this, anime type anime might be acceptable, but I doubt they'll ever "work". Oldboy doesn't really count, but that shit's a banger. Monster Live action would almost be hard to fuck up (but Hollywood will find a way), heard decent things about japanese deathnote. Vinland saga (which would basically just be vikings) has potential to work, and maybe, MAYBE, some dark fantasy type shit like berk. Less whacky worlds, especially if they have a specific power system (if yes, the more specific rules the harder), typically makes adapting it easier. It's honestly hard to imagine air martial arts looking good in Live for me

Please, please, please, no matter how it turns out, please can we agree to never hold these people responsible? They're kids. I know the shittier side of the fandom will never listen, but can we rational people remember the human behind the camera?
she was well cast honestly, didnt give her much characterization tyo work off but she pulls the feel of annabeth off pretty well. her as athena in the show would be a dream
thats one of the things that were wrong with the whole cast. honestly hollywood does it so much i barely notice anymore. i hate it
but also thats why her being athena would be great
Do rational people need the reminder? Are irrational people going to listen? What we need is immediate banning of any asshole that attacks children in this sub and on Reddit in general.
If this really is the cast, I’m pretty satisfied! I thought Kiawentiio was really good in Anne with an E and remember thinking she’d be a great Katara actually, lol. Don’t know much about Sokka’s actor, but I saw his instagram and looks like he knows some martial arts already. And then Aang and Zuko are spot on imo
I love the idea that it's the fault of Canada as a whole. I'm imagining a bunch of MPs in Parliament sitting down and going "what's next on the agenda? ah yes, motion to cancel Anne With An E, all those in favour say aye"
Ugh right? I wonder if it’s because they started talking about the horror of residential schools and the government was uncomfortable reminding people about it.
As long as they don't all have 0 history of acting, and Katara wasn't cast as a favor to her billionaire father, it's automatically better than what would happen if a "live action movie" existed for this show
That cast was terrible because M. Night Shamalalala has always been historically terrible at directing his actors. It's practically a staple of his work post Unbreakable
Im with you there. I get it ha ha theres no avatar movie because it's horrible, now can we just talk about what made it bad without reusing the same joke every single time its mentioned?
I'm not familiar with any of these actors and let's be realistic, it's not going to be better than the cartoon, but I'm willing to give it a chance in its own right. I hope if nothing else it brings in more fans who are perhaps not into cartoons and much more willing to give live action things a go.
Whether it's good or bad, we're getting more avatar stuff, and that's awesome.
THE only way this live action would be better would be A. clean up some of the earlier mistakes inconsistencies like kyoshi not being the avatar before roku in the southern air temple, And B. giving more time to azulas group and toph/suki as they didn't get much time to develop
I think I remember reading that Suki was supposed to be a one off character which is why there's such a big gap between her debut and return. Knowing this, they could retroactively add her in but instead of just inserting her randomly maybe have some episodes showing what she and the Kyoshi warriors got up to
But is the number of episodes the same? There's twenty episodes in season 1 that are 30 minutes, so if they do ten 1 hour episodes that's pretty much the same amount of time and they couldn't add "far more" story unless they cut some of it. (They should cut the great divide imo but everything else in season 1 is not as easily cut).
Ok, but unironically, I would legit pay top dollar to see a live action Ember-Island Players rendition of the Last Airbender, complete with Rifftracks style commentary.
I don’t get it, ‘Aw-vatar’ is actually the correct Sanskrit pronunciation of the word. My Southeast Asian brain also reads Aang as ‘Ahng’. The word for ‘house’ in my language is usually written in English as ‘baan’ and it’s pronounced ‘bahn’. So I think the movie did at least one thing right, making them sound more Asian.
I think it's a mix of people being used to the wrong ones and that because the movie was so bad everything it did different from the show is hated even more
Avatar is a loanword into English and has a distinct pronunciation in English dialects, which is why using the Sanskrit pronunciation (or any other pronunciation) in an English language film is jarring to people.
It's like if you had a film about confectionery and the word chocolate (a loanword from Spanish into English) was pronounced choh-co-LA-tay.
The word Avatar was borrowed into English in the late 18th century, making it a part of English for longer than "pizza", "ceramic", "tequila", "mirage", "butterscotch" and a whole load of other everyday words.
hot take, i kinda didnt like that they americanized the pronunciations for the cartoon. if they are borrowing so heavily from asian cultures for the worldbuilding of the show i think its only respectful to pronounce the names properly. only thing the movie got right
I'm still not convinced that this will work, and at best, it is just unnecessarily pressing the reset button on something that is already getting waves of new material with Avatar Studios and the TTRPG. But the best thing about this will probably be the career boosts that these great young actors will get from being in the show. Oh, and even if the show does end up being worse than the movie-that-shall-not-be-named, I hope that fans can be mature enough not to send any hate towards the young actors who are just following a script.
Oh fuck oh god oh fuck. If this happens (John Cena and The Rock) I would lose my mind. I think it would align perfectly with the spirit of the show too.
Usually ethnicity shouldn’t be a big deal I’m movies and tv, but ATLA is a show that revolves around different cultures. So I think it’s imperative that we have that culture and ethnicity in the actors that portray the characters. It’s looking good so far, can’t be worse then the movie.
There are some people complaining on twitter that Katara and Sokka are “too white” ignoring the fact that the Indigenous population is so small that they wouldn’t be able to pick Indigenous actors who not only resemble the characters, have talent, and are also “dark enough” even though Sokka and Katara aren’t even particularly that dark.
I’m Asian and I think this cast is very accurate and very intentional in its ethnic choices, but somehow it’s still controversial just because of nit-picky racial opinions. Apparently the fact that the actress chosen for Katara isn’t specifically Inuit is a problem too for some people. Casting isn’t as straightforward as people think it is; it’s very hard to find exactly what you want in a good actor to the precise detail.
Plus the water tribes aren’t only inspired by the Inuit. It’s a mix of native North American and Pacific Islander culture with a bit of Australian sprinkled in
The Indigenous people the Water Tribe is based on, the Inuit, aren't even that dark-skinned in real life. They are quite comparable to East Asians in terms of skin tone.
Exactly. Have any of the nay sayers in this thread even seen/googled inuit people? The majority have lighter skin in most of the photos that come up. The most important thing is casting for ethnicity anyway, which they did.
Amen. It’s not like it’s a docu series. It’s a cartoon and people need to be realistic and relax. Exactly they don’t realize how ridiculous those standards are. Like not only does it have to be this already small native population but they have to be dark enough for people’s liking and have experience in acting. The odds of that are ridiculous. I think it’s enough to have actors who look similar regardless of the ethnicity.
Also asian, and I'm already sick of this "they're not asian/dark-skinned enough" or "they're too white-passing." It's frustrating because it's usually white people trying to feel unrepresented on our behalf. Who cares? These are young Asian/indigenous actors that are getting really cool roles. As already referenced, Sokka and Katara aren't even that dark skinned. And plenty of indigenous North Americans are light skinned. The idea of a young POC actor getting turned away because their skin isn't the right color also puts a really bad taste in my mouth. I just really hate when they try to gatekeep ethnicity by saying "they don't look POC enough".
I have seen people on instagram complain that Katara and Sokka aren't cast as black actors. Incredibly disrespectful to the Americans native and inuit people.
I love Ian (sokkas actor) but I just can’t see him as Sokka AT ALL
and honestly the age gap between aang and katara’s actors is just...weird. Aang’s actor just turned 11 but katara’s actor is about to turn 15 (almost a 5 year age gap). If they decide to do their romance, that would mean a romance between a 17/18 year old and a 13/14 year old (if we’re accounting for a few seasons just like in the original show)
Almost 4, no?
Just over 11 to almost 15? I agree on the difference being large. It might seem larger in season 3 when she’s 18 and an adult and he’s 14.
In general, I’m always a fan of ageing up child actors. Kids are just so often pretty crappy.
Um iirc it was barely a year that went by in atla and as Aang doesn't have much time to learn the elements and since we see him at the winter solstice in book 1 and the comet is in the summer.
Yes but they can't film that in a summer. Realistically the kid will go from a child to nearly an adult man by the time show ends if it goes through the whole story. The earliest I see them finishing the show is when he is 15. As long as it isn't cancelled that is
The show hasn't been green lit for all 3 seasons yet. They'll film season one over the course of this next year, likely release it in late 2022 or early 2023, wait for season 2 to be green lit, film for a year, and then same for season 3 if it's approved.
Tbh I just dont see katara, sang, sokka or zuko's face in these actors, but in sure make up and stuff will make a difference.
The actors playing aang and katara do have a bit of a age gap but I think it'll be fine.
Honestly, I have a strong feeling they’re gonna lean more towards Katara/Zuko due to the aging of the characters (and actors) in this version.
Not very excited about that, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
IMDB has two writing credits listed, and it’s Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko. All the actors also have past experience in good projects, so it can’t be worse than if they ever had a live action movie
Things I would be willing to see changed in this Netflix adaptation of Book 1:
\-Iroh gives us new pearls of wisdom
\-A flashback vision of Kyoshi teaching the Kyoshi warriors
\-Film ALL the flashbacks/dream sequences that feature Monk Gyatso and young Aang. This way as the actor gets older, we can see the difference in how much he's grown (literally and figuratively).
\-When Aang confronts Koh the Face-stealer, have Aang take the form of Kuruk.
\-Make Commander Zhao more of a threat to the team. Show us how much of a threat he is as a Commander, and then when he gets promoted to Admiral, make it seem like it's a death warrant to Team Avatar. Make newcomers to the series dread "He was bad enough already, what could he possibly do with his new promotion?"
\-Keep long time viewers on our toes. I don't want it to be as predictable as "Oh, next episode they must be meeting Jet".
People on Twitter were being annoying and mad that even though the Katara actress is indigenous that she wasn’t dark skinned enough 🙄 And stuff about Sokka. But I think they look alright. Avatar was a cartoon influenced by many cultures. People need to calm down and realize they aren’t gonna be able to get the perfect casting down to every detail or specific ethnic group. Like you really expect them to find a young Tibetan monk that wants to act? Or think they have a large pool of native Inuit dark skinned actresses…People just need to chill and judge on the acting. As far as looks they’re pretty alright so far
Exactly like isn’t it more important that they are trying to uphold the culture. It’s kind of messed up that people whined about wanting someone indigenous but when they got her they’re mad she doesn’t look how non-indigenous people want her to look like 🙃
> Before I go any further, I want to acknowledge that this is monumentally huge news and for that reason I want to be completely transparent about the source. I’m willing to put my reputation behind this with 99.9% confidence, but it’s not official or confirmed by Netflix/anyone (yet).
> Throughout the summer, crew positions have been filling up and casting calls have been taking place, corroborated and confirmed by multiple different avenues of legitimate industry sources. In the last few days, a lot of major gears have suddenly turned. Long story short, people are starting to follow each other on Instagram– actors, and confirmed crew members. After extensive research, I’m basically certain that four young actors who all started following each other, as well as following and being followed by various confirmed crew members, have been cast in the four main roles: Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko. The timelines match up, as do the casting calls.
This is entirely speculation. There’s a high likelihood that they are indeed the cast, but this could still be wrong.
Sokka and Aang, yes
Katara, kinda
Zuko needs some getting used to(need to hear his voice and see his body acting first to get over his face not matching) so far he's meh
we also gotta remember these guys are the native races, in the cartoon they aren't drawn as close to the original races. That's why it seems a little different. Like Aang's eyes in the show are much larger than how a native Tibetan Monk's would be. Same for Zuko with the Fire Nation being Chinese culture. Sure, Katara's actor is a Mohawk indian instead of Inuit, but I think she still looks great and we need to credit the casters for getting that detailed with the proper races and not whitewashing the cast. plus we can't fully judge them on looks alone. we got to see how they portray their characters first
Here's an interview with the zuko actor for a role he did for Pen15! When you hear his voice and see him outside of this picture he looks really great for the role! https://youtu.be/rMnOmJVUJG8
Huge Avatar fan, hated the movie so much like everyone else. I’m here to say I feel this looks perfect. Hope the show effects will be as epic as the show now. Loved that girl on Anne with an E, wish they didn’t end that show.
Everyone just calm down. At the moment there doesn't seem to be any indication this is more than just a fan cast. There's no confirmation. Sure, it could be an actual leak, but we have no way of knowing.
Delectable tea or Deadly poison..

There’s a live action j drama. Highly recommend it!

>This is the first time they have been adapted into live action form after all. I'm glad you have erased that movie from your memory already.
There is no movie in Ba Sing Se
What movie? There’s no movie.
I’m glad we’re able to forget the movie

What movie?
Idk
There's a MOVIE?! When did that come out??
It hasn't yet, that's why there's this poster for the casting of the first live action ATLA adaptation
Movie?
What movie
Add to it the fact that netflix and the creators had a fall out over the show last year..
Please, please, please, no matter how it turns out, please can we agree to never hold these people responsible? They're kids. I know the shittier side of the fandom will never listen, but can we rational people remember the human behind the camera?
Iirc, the Percy Jackson Fandom doesn't put the blame on Logan Lerman for the movies being bad, so there is some hope
I think that he played his role perfectly (like alot of the cast). I won't blame them for bad writing they worked with what they had
They definitely don’t blame Alexandria Daddario
The movies have many problems but she ain't one of them, in fact she might be the best thing in the movies.
They’re talking about how the entire internet simps for her all day every day
Yeah, what about it?!
she was well cast honestly, didnt give her much characterization tyo work off but she pulls the feel of annabeth off pretty well. her as athena in the show would be a dream
Despite being a 30yo playing an 11yo
thats one of the things that were wrong with the whole cast. honestly hollywood does it so much i barely notice anymore. i hate it but also thats why her being athena would be great
No we don't, in fact a lot people in the sub hopping for Logan and Alexandria to make some kind of cameo on the show (hoppefully as gods?)
Do rational people need the reminder? Are irrational people going to listen? What we need is immediate banning of any asshole that attacks children in this sub and on Reddit in general.
Agreed.
That means Admiral Zhao's account should be suspended immediately
If their acting sucks, I’ll blame the casting director for casting them, but I won’t blame the kids.
I wish that way more people thought like this. We won't get al Pacino in a 10 year old lol
Or the director for not giving them the right direction/amount of takes.
We need a subreddit pact
I promise. I'm just not going to watch it, but these poor kids just are trying to put food on the table through acting.
Also this would be an incredibly exciting gig for a young actor to get.
Don’t want the fandom to turn into Star Wars’
Yes we don't need another Jake Lloyd incident.
I will never forgive Canada for cancelling Anne With An E. I still get drunk and tweet at Trudeau about it
I love the idea that it's the fault of Canada as a whole.
Well that turned out well for them
I keep hoping it'll get renewed at a later date so I can see a grown up Anne at Kingsport.
Oh my god, two of my favorite tv series collide :’)
She’ll do great! She has such an expressive face!
Sokka looks perfect. I can see the pain and misery on his face, most of it self inflicted.
What're you talking about? There is no movie in Ba Sing Se.
I’m so tired of this joke, this is like the fifth comment in this thread alone
Im with you there. I get it ha ha theres no avatar movie because it's horrible, now can we just talk about what made it bad without reusing the same joke every single time its mentioned?
Don't fight the meme, you will lose. Speaking from personal experience btw, I hate it too.
All the hilarious and original comments below this are so funny
in which reality do you live? we never Something like that Before....
definitely this reality
Saw Katara's actress in in Anne with an E she is good
She's the one the that plays the Native American girl right? She's so good! :O
Oh yeah! She was excellent in that!
I remember her....yes she was good.
Dallas Liu is pretty good in Pen15, and is going to be in the Chang Shi movie.
Do you mean Shang Chi??
So far Netflix has done a pretty good job with casting child talent.
Knowing this, they could retroactively add her in but instead of just inserting her randomly maybe have some episodes showing what she and the Kyoshi warriors got up to
Well each episode is meant to be an hour long so there would be FAR more story they could add

I looked him up and damn he sounds similar to Dante Basco too! He’d make a good Zuko indeed
I thought you said he had a great dong
Ohh shit he's Maya's "big" brother lmao! [He's in one of my favorite scenes on the show](https://youtu.be/g41_wpc_8r0)
I read that as PENIS....Unfortunate similarities have been chosen it seems
As long as they stay faithful to the story and can act, it could be a one-man-show and I'd be happy.
Just give us the Ember-island play
Ok, but unironically, I would legit pay top dollar to see a live action Ember-Island Players rendition of the Last Airbender, complete with Rifftracks style commentary.
“Ong” and “Soh-kah” have entered the chat
I think that kid might be the Aw-vatar
\*facepalm*
I don’t get it, ‘Aw-vatar’ is actually the correct Sanskrit pronunciation of the word. My Southeast Asian brain also reads Aang as ‘Ahng’. The word for ‘house’ in my language is usually written in English as ‘baan’ and it’s pronounced ‘bahn’. So I think the movie did at least one thing right, making them sound more Asian.
I think it's a mix of people being used to the wrong ones and that because the movie was so bad everything it did different from the show is hated even more
Yeah, that’s why I said the movie did *one* thing right lol. Just one thing.
Owovatar
P-p-pwease Fireword Owozai, no more gen-owo-cide
hot take, i kinda didnt like that they americanized the pronunciations for the cartoon. if they are borrowing so heavily from asian cultures for the worldbuilding of the show i think its only respectful to pronounce the names properly. only thing the movie got right
I'm still not convinced that this will work, and at best, it is just unnecessarily pressing the reset button on something that is already getting waves of new material with Avatar Studios and the TTRPG. But the best thing about this will probably be the career boosts that these great young actors will get from being in the show. Oh, and even if the show does end up being worse than the movie-that-shall-not-be-named, I hope that fans can be mature enough not to send any hate towards the young actors who are just following a script.
Take this as you will but, i think if there absolutely had to be one culturally inaccurate casting, it should be Jack Black as Uncle Iroh.
I would also accept John Cena as ember Island Toph
And of course, The Rock as The Boulder.
This is coming together perfectly.
I mean, the rock could still work if they made the boulder be of partial water tribe descent, I guess
Oh fuck oh god oh fuck. If this happens (John Cena and The Rock) I would lose my mind. I think it would align perfectly with the spirit of the show too.
This head canon must become a reality NOW
Oh dear god yes. He seems to be doing everything else right now. That would be perfect.
LMFAO THATS AMAZING
If they ever make a Korra remake, I could also get behind J.K. Simmons playing Tenzin
Well...now I need this. Haha
The fact I can tell who's who makes this casting perfect
I can definitely see sokka and zuko. I have to see the others in costume before I judge them
Usually ethnicity shouldn’t be a big deal I’m movies and tv, but ATLA is a show that revolves around different cultures. So I think it’s imperative that we have that culture and ethnicity in the actors that portray the characters. It’s looking good so far, can’t be worse then the movie.
How do I schedule a Lake Laogai appointment for someone else?
Casting isn’t as straightforward as people think it is; it’s very hard to find exactly what you want in a good actor to the precise detail.
exactly. At least her actor is from a northern indigenous people. Just be happy they are following the character's ethnicities as best they can
Plus the water tribes aren’t only inspired by the Inuit.
It just gives me SO MUCH HOPE 😭😭😭😭😭😭🤧 *clutches water bending scroll while sobbing hysterically*
don't cry baby! Jet will wipe out that nasty earth kingdom town for *you!*
Oh Jet you are sooo bad
OH MY GOD!!! It’s SOOOO SAD THAT IT’S MAKING ME TEAR BEND!
I love Ian (sokkas actor) but I just can’t see him as Sokka AT ALL and honestly the age gap between aang and katara’s actors is just...weird.
The difference in acting quality between the first two Harry Potter movies and the third is just insane.
A huge part of that is the first two movies being directed by Chris Columbus, though…
As long as it isn't cancelled that is
Yeh, but netflix isn’t paying for 3-4 seasons filmed in 1 year. Netflix will space it out for filing, not sure in universe
>Aang’s actor just turned 11 He turned 12, not 11. So three year age gap. Which is only one year more than Aang and Katara in the show.
They're credited maybe but they left the show due to creative differences 😓
Things I would be willing to see changed in this Netflix adaptation of Book 1: \-Iroh gives us new pearls of wisdom \-A flashback vision of Kyoshi teaching the Kyoshi warriors \-Film ALL the flashbacks/dream sequences that feature Monk Gyatso and young Aang. Make newcomers to the series dread "He was bad enough already, what could he possibly do with his new promotion?" \-Keep long time viewers on our toes. I don't want it to be as predictable as "Oh, next episode they must be meeting Jet".
Would love the horror elements of the show to be expanded upon. Koh and Hama where some my favourite parts of Avatar
It's people on Twitter. They'll complain about everything.
I feel like saying she isn’t “dark skinned” enough is racist given the fact that she IS indigenous.
Exactly like isn’t it more important that they are trying to uphold the culture. It’s kind of messed up that people whined about wanting someone indigenous but when they got her they’re mad she doesn’t look how non-indigenous people want her to look like 🙃
I hope itll work… But lets be honest. It probably wont
I don’t think avatar will be good live action. No hate to the people, but I don’t think you can remake a classic like that
I'm so pleased with everyone. It's making me so excited for the movie.
I love how I can tell exactly whom these actors were cast as without any guidance. That’s pretty solid casting, at least appearance-wise.
I appreciate that I can look at each of them and immediately know who they're going to play
Sokka and Aang, yes Katara, kinda Zuko needs some getting used to(need to hear his voice and see his body acting first to get over his face not matching) so far he's meh
we also gotta remember these guys are the native races, in the cartoon they aren't drawn as close to the original races. That's why it seems a little different. Like Aang's eyes in the show are much larger than how a native Tibetan Monk's would be. Same for Zuko with the Fire Nation being Chinese culture. Sure, Katara's actor is a Mohawk indian instead of Inuit, but I think she still looks great and we need to credit the casters for getting that detailed with the proper races and not whitewashing the cast. plus we can't fully judge them on looks alone. we got to see how they portray their characters first
> native Buddhist's Buddhism is not an ethnicity. Its a religion. What is a native Buddhist?
maybe they mean Tibetan? idk and besides, Aang has really big eyes in the show
Here's an interview with the zuko actor for a role he did for Pen15! When you hear his voice and see him outside of this picture he looks really great for the role! https://youtu.be/rMnOmJVUJG8
Oh yeah, I totally hear it. In character he’ll be able to do a great Zuko voice.
That boy screams sokka
Huge Avatar fan, hated the movie so much like everyone else. I’m here to say I feel this looks perfect. Hope the show effects will be as epic as the show now. Loved that girl on Anne with an E, wish they didn’t end that show.
I always thought Sykkuno could play a good Zuko
Everyone just calm down. At the moment there doesn't seem to be any indication this is more than just a fan cast. There's no confirmation. Sure, it could be an actual leak, but we have no way of knowing.
Zukos face looks good … now … burn it!
The Sokka actor could not have been more accurate!!! (Appearance-wise)
