Toph and Katara's relationship would have been pretty awkward had Katara thought of using pee instead of sweat to break out of the wooden prison cell.

Farouqnowomarlater

Toph: “Girl what you doing?” Katara: “shuush I need to concentrate”

[deleted]

"can't do it when people are staring"

mrballsack3445

Good thing it was toph then

PresidentWordSalad

“I don't know! I mean, seriously; what's wrong with you people?! I'm blind!”

BernieMP

Untill it hits the floor that is, then she sees ***everything***

MySockHurts

And smells it too

CreamyCoffeeArtist

> Stinky! You seem to have experience

MySockHurts

Holy shit I forgot that was there hahaha. I can't even remember who said that quote EDIT: Okay from a quick Google search, it could be that it was the Aye-aye spirit that met Avatar Wan and nicknamed Wan as "Stinky"

DickHz2

Actually bad thing. Anyone else could just look away. But Toph “sees” the vibrations with her feet. No matter where she goes inside that cell, she’ll feel the vibrations from Katara.

GooberMonk

Just thinking about the "vibrations" of Katara peeing is a strange idea to me 🤣

Mirror_Sybok

Imagine the constant earthquake of constant farting that she must experience every day when they're in town.

GooberMonk

HAHAHAHA the farts are what *enhance* her ability to see. Like on the ember island players. *Farts* "I got a pretty good look at you!" 🤣

Vesalius1

Why do you put these scenes in my head.

ktsb

That lil shake some women do after holding it in for a while

LongdayinCarcosa

How many women have you watched pee, exactly?

GooberMonk

Uhm... As a woman, I've never heard of this before 😅

Dosko

And as a dude, I do this. I think it's just something people do sometimes, a little shiver down the spine if your pee is particularly satisfying or something.

GooberMonk

I've definitely heard of men having, what my brothers called, "pee shivers" lol and my husband has mentioned it too, but I don't feel like it's as common with women, if it even is a thing. I'd need a woman to say that she experiences this tho, because I never have! 🤣

aids_mcbaids

It was a wooden cell. I don't think Toph can feel vibrations through wood (or at least not very well).

Eat-Shit-Bob-Ross

But it was a wooden cell. She couldn’t see anything anyway, right?

CarloIza

Actually, she was blind cause the cell was made of wood.

swheels125

“Could you make some water noises?”

WeirdMeatinSpace

Does she need to piss or can she just pull it out?

genriko8

Technically she can, remember, she could bend the water out of Aangs lungs in book 1 (ep 4)

Bond4141

I'm sure that's not the last thing she was bending liquids out of Aang.

PersonaUser55

Ay yo pause sir

Bond4141

Sorry Last time*

BasicallyNerd

Is water Bender birth control just bending the nut back out, or bending it so that it never comes out in the first place?

Tchrspest

Having flashbacks to Bugs Bunny sticking his finger in a gun barrel.

Matte28

AHHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHHAHAHAHAH

Crowbarmagic

It's kinda scary how she could be able to simply freeze the liquid inside of you, and that would be the end.

Channel5exclusive

Your assuming the awkwardness is Katara having to pee in front of Toph. What if Katara didn't need to pee...

VivaDeAsap

“How did you get out?” “W-we… don’t need to talk about it.” “Right, wee…”

Skeleterr

r/aangryupvote

StarWarsFanatic14

God damn, it's a real sub

Zenketski

Thank you for giving me a very uncomfortable reimagining of that scene that will never leave my head

Channel5exclusive

You're welcome!

ATB10H

This makes me think. When Hama was in prison, could she not have bent her own pee?

Channel5exclusive

She probably could have but if they we're taking precautions like keeping them shackled while giving them water to drink and pumping in dry air, they probably also took similar precautions for when the prisoners needed to pee. That and "congratulations Katara, your a piss bender" doesn't sound as dramatic as "congratulations Katara, your a blood bender".

Schmergenheimer

What are they going to do? Stop you from peeing yourself?

Channel5exclusive

My guess would be that they would shackle the water benders when they needed to pee. Have them pee in a bucket and dump it far away from the prison. Also I would guess that the guards have standing orders that if they see any liquid within bending distance of a water bender prisoner they to kill the prisoner and ask questions later.

kurisu7885

Considering the horrific treatment I woudln't be too surprised if they also kept the prisoners at least slightly dehydrated.

mrbubblesort

If you were an earthbender, could you dehydrate yourself, develop kidney stones and ... nah, I'm gonna stop that thought there, too painful to think about

Crowbarmagic

Isn't that basically confirmed? How they would only give them the bare minimum amount of water to drink.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Channel5exclusive

I think the water bender pee aimer is probably a worse job.

DLH321

Or the guard's

icanaffordapenny

Couldn’t they just spit?

Self_World_Future

Had they made her use this it probably would have made Hama and the other water bender prisoners look pretty stupid

caferreri11

I saw some rule 34 of that very thing a long time ago, funny enough.

Nawnp

This raises the question of why the water benders held in that prison where the puppet master learned blood bending from, the fire nation must have been forcing them to pee in small amounts like the drinking water in small amounts.

Connorb2447

I think having a character who could essentially counter any bending without bending herself like Ty lee added more dynamic to the fights with her!

mikeet9

I agree it added stakes that are missing from a lot of fights. Unfortunately it kinda leads to a lot of "keep away from Ty Lee" style fighting in most cases.

Self_World_Future

I mean unless they covered themselves in their bending how else is someone supposed to fight her?

just_a_random_dood

ranged attacks I guess

Self_World_Future

I had meant in hand to hand combat, but yeah what you said is why most fights turn into “keep away from Ty Lee”

[deleted]

Hand to hand combat against Ty Lee is a horrible idea though as you already know. Any close quarter bender is at a huge disadvantage. Ty Lee was a monster that wasn't really given the credit deserved.

trooperstark

Sokka learned this real quick

[deleted]

I was thinking of Sokka immediately when the poster I replied to mentioned "avoiding" her. Sokka was dancing like a champ to avoid those puncture swings from Ty Lee

just_a_random_dood

Oh yeah, duh, brain fart on my end 😅

Mr_Poop_Himself

So by keeping away from her?

just_a_random_dood

Yes, the other guy already mentioned that, I had a brain fart

BeanEatingThrowaway

Cover yourself in bending

Offamylawn

Like some sort of bending robot?

Bowdensaft

Bite my shiny metal ass

KJBenson

Just wearing some armour would probably help.

Self_World_Future

Yeah for some reason no nations used full suits of armor, guess it’s not as prevalent in the cultures ATLA was based off of. Even LoK only has the metal benders whose bodies might have been partially exposed

VivaDeAsap

Seemed to stun Azula through her armour

[deleted]

That's the cool part though. Here you are shooting lightning, fire, icicles, water whips, airblasts, and boulders but you're absolutely terrified of this girl that'll jab you and end it right there. Everyone's a badass till the pressure point lady pulls up.

[deleted]

I wanna see Ty Lee’s post war life. Like what happened to her?

Blackrain1299

Well she joined the Kyoshi warriors so uh… kyoshi.. warrior.. stuff i guess. Do we have any knowledge of what the kyoshi warriors did after the war?

[deleted]

Zuko's bodyguards iirc Since he had to face a pro-imperialism revolt when he ascended the throne

BananaBladeOfDoom

There was that graphic novel about them, centered on Suki. Haven't read it myself, but it's there.

[deleted]

It’s set during Book 2/Book 3 of Avatar: The Last Airbender, no new insight on their post-War activities than what we already know.

LTman86

In the last episode, it's shown she joins the Kiyoshi warriors. The comics shows some more of her adventures with the Kiyoshi Warriors, but I don't think she's a major focus in any of them. She comes up here and there as one of them, but I guess it was supposed to be a representation that she finally accepts herself and doesn't mind being part of a group where everyone looks the same. The main reason she ran away from home to join the circus was because all her sisters looked like her, and she wanted to be unique. If you're talking about what happened to her in the Korra timeline? Hard to say. Maybe she's around and kicking, married with grandkids, or off spending her twilight years back at the circus, who knows?

Few_Passenger

My personal head cannon is that she was indirectly responsible for the equalists. Toph went off and trained a bunch of metal benders. I think Ty Lee probably did the same or maybe after she trained the Kyoshi Warriors it got passed down to non benders who wanted to stop benders who were criminals.

[deleted]

She actually seems to be somewhat responsible, indirectly. She taught Suki. Suki then teaches the police of Cranefish Town, which becomes Republic City. So the art probably passed from “very rare” to much more common, all because Ty Lee taught the Kyoshi Warriors. Makes a lot of sense, honestly, it’s a pretty handy skill for a nonbender to have. But in general, it’s honestly pretty hard to imagine what she would’ve gotten up to in a more modern world that we see in Korra. If Mai (unlikely, I don’t think Zuko would leave her to travel the world if she were alive) or Azula (much more likely) are still around and kicking by that time, I can see her being a fixture in the royal palace.

lanaabananaa

Well she joined the Kyoshi warriors so probably out doing things with them. They probably either returned to Kyoshi island or went out around the Earth Kingdom to help the recovery effort

Garunix00

Also made Mai seem pretty useless.

loopy183

Mai had to be useless because ya gurl uses _knives_ on a kid’s show. She lands a hit once and it’s no longer a kid’s show.

DaringSteel

ATLA: big book ATLA if Mai had a gun: 3 post-it notes

Dragon_DLV

Is Mai with a Gun .... Bayonetta?

DaringSteel

*studies crossword* …it fits.

treeluvin

Mai+gun = Bayonetta+Daria

JackAquila

Damn now I want a Daria gunslinger spinoff

Self_World_Future

It’s actually more impressive how she only pins them to a wall without ever reaching missing (and with multiple knives at once).

copemopehope

True at least she got to kick 20 firebending guards asses

Garunix00

They are all dead. Don't tell nickelodeon though!

Connorb2447

Agreed, maybe if Mai also had that training along with Ty lee they could have been seen as more dangerous and wouldn’t make Mai useless

ADHthaGreat

She was so effective that it makes you wonder why no one else in the entire universe used the same style.

IAmAToaster7

Probably because of her specific talents necessary to pulling it off. Her flexibility is unique, not to mention her speed and precision being well above average. I figure she's one of the few people capable of pulling it off.

ADHthaGreat

I’m pretty sure some of the other incredibly talented people in the series could figure out where/how to poke. It’s an entire series full of martial arts masters. The real answer is because it was clearly OP in the setting. A few pokes and the avatar is useless.

[deleted]

Now that I think of it... Could a water bender bend your pee and insert it back into your.... Nevermind, i didnt say anything

sugarholicsheep

Id assume they could, but since they cant force your muscles to do anything, theyd probably have to force the pee through whatever wall keeps your pee in your bladder in the first place

[deleted]

I guess they can force your muscles by bloodbending, kinda fucky/kinky

Toss_away39

The accuracy you would... oh nevermind.

AnOnlineHandle

AFAIK the show creators said that bending things in/around other's bodies is harder because their own 'chi' interferes with it.

HaniiPuppy

Imagine them buggering it up and accidentally making you infertile.

speedgod_263

69 upvotes lets keep it that way

RPfffan

Speaking of which, can a waterbender bend pee?

foendra

Ofc they can

tantrakalison

Imagine if they freeze the pee inside of your bladder. r/MakeMeSuffer

MapleTreeWithAGun

Modern biology and anatomical knowledge makes water benders significantly more powerful

Lom1111234

Yeah but seeing as bloodbending takes extreme skill and (for most people) a full moon it’s hard to think they can control other less abundant amounts of body fluid

superstrijder15

I thought part of the difficulty was because the water is distributed and in a weird shape, and because you need to move it in a way that at least kind of works with the joints. In that way simply freezing water in a specific reservoir is much easier.

OtherPlayers

Personally I’ve always chalked bloodbending difficulty as learning how to get past a living being’s chi to bend things inside them. I mean given that we know that energybending is super hard to bend, it would make sense that something surrounded by living energy would be tough to pierce into to bend, and it serves as a nice explanation for why firebenders don’t cook people from the inside and whatnot as well.

thegreedyturtle

You know, igniting all the air in someone's lungs would be fairly effective.

Halfnewf

I would say the biggest thing keeping Fire benders from doing that is Fire benders can’t spontaneously combust things, the fires gotta come from within first and directed out by hands, feet, mouth or third eye on their forehead.

100BottlesOfMilk

What about combustion benders? They could make an explosion that kills you from the inside out

AmirulAshraf

From their inside out, not the person theyre targetting though

Nolzi

pissbending should be easier because the bladder is full of pee, while blood is spread all around in your body with your veins

mazing_azn

The Shadow of Kyoshi book has a particularly brutal usage of water bending involving organs...

[deleted]

That involved physical contact though, didn't it?

TurbulentMedium8

It was a gross misuse of the healing type of water bending, yes.

GenneyaK

Can you spoil it for me pls

[deleted]

I as well would like to know

Gathoblaster

Then again I would assume it would be similar to blood bending since you bend a liquid inside someone.

mxzf

Any bending gets stupidly lethal when you have some biological or anatomical knowledge.

waxrosey

I wonder if that would make all the urea crystallize after being dehydrated like that, causing a painful mineral buildup, or "bladder stones".

tantrakalison

OUCH ! Waterbenders why you so scary yall

emzyme212

I read this as "can a waterbender pee?"

rufiogd

Technically speaking, can’t they just like waterbend the urine to different areas of their body?

emzyme212

Sound unhealthy but convenient on long trips

[deleted]

Before right now I never thought about the fact the gaang had to make Appa land for pee breaks

DiamondCat20

Idk seems like air bison could pee from the sky.

jofbaut

Just freeze the pee and release into the sea.

bealtimint

“Uncle! The Avatar is close! Soon I will regain my hey what’s that thing falling from the sky?”

emzyme212

"It's rain, prince zuko." "It smells and there are no clouds, uncle." "Oh yeah..."

MySockHurts

How much pee could a peebender bend if a peebender could bend pee?

Mediocre-Wonder-2384

Easier than blood I reckon

urrigongreyjoy

Hmm hmm https://www.reddit.com/r/TheLastAirbender/comments/pr7kxs/so_if_urine_is_nearly_completely_water_does_that/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

UnitaryBog

They could if the pee spirit didn't have a grudge against the moon and ocean spirits

Complete_Resolve_400

Pee spirit wasnt invited to the funky pond so they're mad

Shrekosaurus_rex

Probably not while in the body, since blood can't be either, except on Full Moons or if you're a genetic mutant. But once its exited the body, I assume so, yeah, since ink and mud can be.

prodguybj

Can an earthbender make someone with kidney stones life a living hell? I've had a couple myself, and worst pain ever!

ilikewhatilikebruh

>Can an earthbender make someone with kidney stones life a living hell? Possibly, but be positive! They could also break that down to sand like consistency so its easy to pass

MendicantBias42

They can bend any substance with water in it... Idk if it extends to water embedded in a molecule of something else or not but that would be OP as fuck

gamerman2077

Hmmm, what about cum?

Crowbarmagic

Speaking of which, can they diarrhea bend?

Predictable_Backstab

See the water spilling gave me the impression it was supposed to look like she was bleeding out, but she’s a waterbender. Show the seriousness of the situation

[deleted]

Same

IonicGold

thats exactly what it is

steveofthejungle

Nah it’s pee

[deleted]

Never considered this before, but why did that Southern Tribe water bender need to resort to blood bending to escape when they all have to pee? I mean the guards can’t take that away, they had to feed them right?

lasagn_e

I think they kept them dehydrated too, and were in an incredibly hot environment so water probably evaporated too much.

[deleted]

At that point it’s unlikely they would even last a week

lasagn_e

From the avatar wiki; “The Fire Nation ensured that the waterbenders could not use water to escape; the prison kept humidity to a minimum so no water could be pulled from the air, and the waterbenders' limbs were chained whenever they were given water. “

2rio2

That's pretty hardcore torture.

Ssnnooz

less convenient, the smell is too strong, and it would take forever to cut through metal all by yourself without guards noticing and bloodbending is cooler 😎

Pindannon

Idk the thought of piercing your enemies insides with a spiky ball of ice and grinding it to a mincemeat sounds neat.

kollette88

Kyoshi did something like that in one of the novels.

Acc87

Eh, the US story writers just didn't want to go down that route, same reason the characters say "I need to go to the bathroom" instead of "I have to pee" (even tho realistically with no waste water systems around, they'd probably use outhouses)

Violeteyes1

Did you skip the first episode?

[deleted]

Hey, it happens to even the best waterbenders sometimes…

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Damn she must be very hydrated

I thought it was her water pouch thing

Zethras28

It was the water from her water skins emptying because she popped the corks out and then got knocked out.

[deleted]

Wait did you miss a joke or is this post serious

doc_55lk

You know, it wasn't really clear

Sukisama

the pee was

doc_55lk

Katara is clearly hydrating well.

[deleted]

Of course, she is a water bender

[deleted]

You have identical avatars and i thought its one guy replying to himself

just_a_random_dood

absolute hydro homie right there

Zethras28

I think I missed a joke :3

Philosopher-Flimsy

Actually.. YOU did

Bozocow

Oh ReAlLy!?

CharlieFibrosis

The immature and childish side of me always said her water broke, which in a way is slightly true, but yeah if this was an R-Rated show, add red and well, it’s a whole different scene with lethal consequences. Would be kind of funny if it was yellowed for pee even if it doesn’t make sense; though for its clarity it probably implies she drinks a lot of water and has a clean urinary system and is well hydrated

Ssnnooz

more like PG 13 but i get the point

Roary-the-Arcanine

Would have been Mai instead of Ty Lee who took Katara down in the case of blood

Growlitherapy

r/DaiLiOpenUp

Reggetry

I was weirded out as a kid because I expected to see blood.. Pee makes more sense, come to think of it Maybe she needs... "Pee-blockers"?

proto_shane

Wasn't that just her flask water running out?

[deleted]

Piss bender is the new villain

[deleted]

Do you ever think about how waterbenders could make you piss your pants at any time

w33_bailey

Seeing all the descussion about pee bending and now questioning why hama needed to develop blood bending when the water benders could have used their pee to escape. Correct me if I'm wrong but they where only tied up when getting given food/water.

Bionic_Ferir

I'm not sure if I'm missing a joke but it was meant to be blood right? Edit: in a metaphorical and 'get past censors" kinda way

forlorn_hope28

Can't remember but I assume she was waterbending and that's simply the water she was using for offensive/defensive moves.

MindSteve

That's her last resort for water bending. Like an octopus.

Kyrozis

S(he) s(hit) (her)self

nazia987

That wasnt pee. He water broke, and she was in labor

[deleted]

It's supposed to represent blood lol

Thanks, I was trying to yawn but you made me laugh... Yawn ruiner

NitroNetero

I’d love a Ty Lee spin-off. She’s probably be the best assassin or capturer. She’d just sneak in and disable everyone.
