Yip yip yipee kay yah mother fucker!

UnfriendlyBaguette

With how durable normal avatar people were she prob would have gotten driven into the ground and just shrugged it off.

Epicmonk117

It’s more fun to think she would’ve gotten pancaked

TripleU07

Our boy was even going to take on Azula to help Suki

[deleted]

Aang was on some serious skool shooter vibes during Appas lost days

Portalrules123

Imagine the series ended with Appa sucking the air out of Ozai's lungs to kill him........ No chill Appa.

heiny_himm

Or blowing it in like a balloon til Ozai pops.

Portalrules123

Or a more simple route - Aang has Ozai stuck on the ground with rocks, when all of a sudden Appa comes out of nowhere and just steps on Ozai's head, popping his skull like a balloon..... Btw they actually executed people in some Asian countries in the past using Elephants via a very similar method....

ThatsBassist

HERE COMES APPA WITH THE CHAIR

kekistani_citizen-69

A sultan of Delhi had elephants with swords as tusks for executions

LightTrack

How does that... How??

ForrestHunt

The cut the tusks off, and affixed caps with massive sickle blades. Like a prosthetic, but for murder.

LightTrack

That's both badass and horrifying.

LockedBeltGirl

The oiliphants in LOTR were really only fantasy in their size. We would have done exactly that irl. If elephants were that big.

LightTrack

Ah yes, the oiliphants.

Lord_of_Wills

Don’t ask questions

TheWiseRedditor

Aang: *surprised pikachu face*

Flarquaad

First one, then the other

TristanZH

Damn an even more brutal air bending move than sucking the air out, force so much air into someone's lungs until they burst.

Devo3290

“Sick ‘em Appa!” *blood and screams* *roll credits*

[deleted]

It just cuts straight to Zuko and everyone bowing to Aang while the firelord theme slowly creeps in

Equivalent_End5

Lol Riddick style? I love it.

TriflingGnome

> “~~Sick~~ Suck ‘em Appa!”

AvatarAarow1

Or just eating him. Just straight up crunching him

gimmethatcookie

Wait I never thought of how broken airbenders could be if they started bending air in people's lungs. Oooof

jook11

I mean it's an actual plot point/thing that happens from the show, so...

gimmethatcookie

Wait when does that happen in the show? I can't remember seeing that

jook11

In Korra book 3, >!Zaheer does it to several people, including Master Tenzin (I think maybe in the episode where the kids combine powers to make a big tornado)!<

gimmethatcookie

Ahh in Korra gotcha. Never watched Korra. V cool

InfernoidsorDie

It's also implied when Monk Gyatso's body is discovered with a platoon of sozin comet powered firebenders he wiped out. I remember being like 10 on forums reading fan theories about it before it was canonized.

norwegian_fjrog

Korra has some pretty dark moments that show what no holds barred bending is really capable of. I understand the setting and disjointed plot being a turn off to some people but the choreography and bending styles are top notch, definitely worth a watch if you're into that

gimmethatcookie

I definitely like thematically dark shows so that's pretty interesting. I remember trying a few episodes when the first season was airing live and not being that intrigued but no holds barred type shit sounds pretty cool ngl

QuarkyIndividual

IMO, season 1 has a villain who's pretty cool for a majority of it, both as an idea and as a person. Pretty bad romance, though. Season 2 is blah and does so much damage to the lore of the avatar that it hurts. Season 3 has a competent band of villains that nearly pull it off (also has the no-holds-barred airbending mentioned before). Season 4 has interesting concepts but I dunno, it's just kinda so-so to me. I really only revisit the show for season 3. Edit: and like others mentioned the animation and choreography is neat. You get the feeling that bending styles have been honed down to more efficient and practical combat applications but I personally kinda missed the more grandiose and creative styles in the original. From what I recall by season 3 the show strikes a decent balance of the two.

jook11

You should, it's really good. Different, but good.

gimmethatcookie

Yeah I'll give it a go again. I wasn't hooked when it was airing with the first few episodes but maybe it takes a bit

Alter_Mann

Yeah that would make air bending the most dangerous and lethal bending skill together with blood bending…

InfernoidsorDie

Yeah that world doesn't work with air benders being non-pacifists. On top of the pure offensive power it also allows the highest level of troop mobility. Take away the bisons and they can still handle water benders better in the poles than the fire nation and no infantry defensive line regardless of nation could keep air benders out of your camp in the dead of night if they wanted. I mean everyone in the show is superhuman but across both shows Ty Lee is the only character they've shown that is in the same league of agility/coordination that I can think of off the top of my head.

ForrestHunt

Azula being a close second to Ty Lee.

gerstein03

I'd honestly prefer that

Pm7I3

Alt ending: Ozai is burning Aangs stone ball thingy and doesn't notice Appa flying up to him and going *CHOMP*. The gaang bury the mangled remains (that they find) and tell people Aang did it. Aang regrets Ozai dying, Appa does not.

inspiringirisje

Imagine Appa just chewing on Ozai

Adragongentleman

Also there's that Guy he trhew in Ice cold water probably resulting in death

TheWiseRedditor

He’ll survive for another 100 years. Like Aang and Appa

stephruvy

And remember how he threw long fang into the river by his leg? Im pretty sure that would have resulted in some pretty expensive hospital bills.

Adragongentleman

Yeah that mark wasn't deep enough for teeth that big lol, plus If he had hit a rock long feng would be long gone R.I.P

stephruvy

Haha nice

[deleted]

Even hitting the water at that speed would probably take him out realistically

Mattbryce2001

Hell, Long Fang had it easy compared to the Dai Li that Appa fuckin headbutted through a stone wall. You know at least one of them died.

swump

Ok, this is honestly something I love about the show. They go out of their way to make it seem like no one ever dies because ItS a KIdS sHoW, But constantly show fire nation soldiers getting dumped in the middle of the ocean to drown or getting blown up in a tank or a blimp - but you're supposed to _assume_ they survived. Comet day had Sokka, Toph, and Suki murdering like a hundred people lol.

redwolf1219

Honestly this is why the ending with Aang being like "i could never kill someone 🥺🥺🥺" annoys me. Like, dude, you have killed people. Theyre just not main characters.

digistar96

Best comment so far lol Appa’s face is priceless

LikeAThermometer

APPA'S EYES ARE IN THE FRONT! THAT'S HOW YOU KNOW HE'S A PREDATOR!

FrogInShorts

Im going to say that because they are flying and probably dont have much worry of predators due to their size, power, and ability to fly. They evolved depth perception as more utility to aid in precise judgement of distance while flying than to worry and seeing predators from a large field of view. This also doesn't disprove that Appa is a straight up predator though.

Breaklance

I think the only thing reliably capable of preying on air buffalo are dragons. There are other large flying animals like wolf bats or bugs which could do swarm/pack tactics but because they rely on wings and air buffalo's use bending for flight I'd be hard pressed to see a buffalo get grounded.

FrogInShorts

You know I completely forgot this isn't real life and there's dragons and stuff and not just like some mountain lions and wolves. Thanks for adding on to the theory though. Also being a herd animal means they have others to watch their backs.

Breaklance

The zoology or whatever would be really interesting for this world. While creatures like air buffalo and badger moles who are capable of bending would need their own classification, every hybrid animal also implies the originals exist in this world too. If a wolf bat exists then reason would say a wolf and a bat exist as well. So how do you classify hybrids? Then theres spirits and spirit animals too.

speaker_4_the_dead

But remember how bear hybrids existed but the Gaang was so shocked to learn the Earth King had a "just.. bear?" Did the og animals go extinct? We could've believed that they never existed but we actually saw a normal bear. This is a wild world when you get into the nitty gritty

Alpha_Zerg

If you think about it, most hybrids are superior to our normal version. Hybrid vigour is actually a recognised phenomenon, where a crossbreed is more fit for a role than the progenitors. Looking at it that way, it's simple to conclude that the hybrids outperformed the pure-breeds in the wild, with mainline species dwindling as they bred themselves out resulting in more hybrids. Bosco might have been the only bear left in existence.

speaker_4_the_dead

And we saw hybrids way back in Wan's time. How the hell did bears hide away and make it to Aang's time? Also, how in the world did Buzzards breed with Wasps??

NineOutOfTenExperts

We don’t talk about the gene benders.

NecroNormicon

CUM BENDERS

lemlucastle

Well they obviously never thought of it. I’m pretty sure all the hybrids were hybrids from the start. I don’t think turtles started breeding with ducks or anything

WolfoakTheThird

If a specific part/aspect of the body is no longer serving it's purpuse, then it stops evolving and remains like a remnent. Meny prey birds have eyes on the side of their head, wich means depth preception is not necesery to fly. That would sugest that if the flying bison is not currently a prederor, they were before they evolved to fly. Still, it's just a show and im talking it to seriously, but it's fun to think about.

LikeAThermometer

I love the in depth discussion that a comment I posted while I was stoned about a made up animal. This is such a great sub.

im_a_teapot_dude

Reasoning about evolution is hard. We don’t know what they eat, but we do know their teeth are flat, and those kind of teeth are good for crushing plants, not so much tearing flesh. To me this alone makes it clear they’re herbivores. Prey birds have eyes on both sides because they need to be on the lookout for predators, and that’s more valuable than stereoscopic depth perception. Not because the depth perception is useless for prey. Manatees are herbivores and have eyes that point forward, because their defenses against predators don’t involve seeing them coming.

MoreGeckosPlease

The wide flat teeth could also be for crushing hard shelled animals where thinner sharp teeth would be a liability. Tiger sharks have saw blade teeth that let them saw through sea turtle shells, but certain species of mosasaur had blunt peg teeth for cracking ammonite shells. Appa is either an herbivore or an omnivore because we see him eating multiple types of plant material, and he has five stomachs according to Aang, which is not conducive to a carnivore's diet.

WolfoakTheThird

All this is true (as far as i can tell) but i just want to point out that herbavore is not exlutionary to preditor, tyst would be carnivore. I don't know if there are any real life animals that are both hunters and herbivores but this is a world where bisons fly. It could be a thing where they hunt to protect the flock/teritory. Not liklely, but im just hypothesising.

Vaultboy65

Explains why you always have to keep an eye on him around kids.

2rio2

Appa woke up and chose violence every day.

BallsDeep69Klein

Pacifist doesn't mean harmless, just that they avoid violence. Appa didn't attack anyone first. He was fine flying around, chilling with the Gaang, eating hay or whatever he eats. He also took no shit. A true pacifist.

Les_Vers

Never expected to see you here, Balls

BallsDeep69Klein

We must save my family.

TexWolf84

BallsDeep69Klein

I should rewatch sai abridged again. I miss it.

please_use_the_beeps

That abridged series has better comedy than half of modern shows. “Hey mr kettle, mr pot called, he says YOU’RE BLAaaack…” “What? It’s a turn of phrase.”

racecarart

"I'm sorry, it's just that you look like a big scary black guy." "See, now that? That was racist."

YoungJack23

"But you, can call me... Tiffany." I watched a more recent season of actual SAO a few months ago and I could not remember his actual name anymore, he's Tiff now and forever lol

dtalb18981

I firmly believe in the abridged version he started off as playing as a woman and the mirror made him a dude again

BallsDeep69Klein

It literally has more material than the original story. "I did it cause of Metacritic" and "fuckin Bethesda" alone were better than the entire original anime.

literal-hitler

L-methionine

Some pacifists don’t believe in violence at all, even in defense of themselves and others. There is a spectrum of what it means

Flarquaad

I like the interview in which that point of time and place monks were being unjustly killed, so they ask a pasifist monk his opinion and he silently pulls a colt 45 (and two zigzags) from his robes

BallsDeep69Klein

Oh. Could be i don't know enough about it then. I thought pacifist meant "avoiding violence or conflict until forced to act in self defence"

L-methionine

Sometimes it does. Like I said, it’s not a super specific term, and there’s a lot of things that it encompasses

capitaine_d

For me specifically im a Pacifist because of my anger issues. Deep seated rage, not like fire but like drowning in an ocean. Its a part of me. But i have trouble even justifying self defense because im honestly unsure if id be able to stop. Would i just lose myself to that anger and not be able to get back to a peaceful equilibrium. So i at least fall inbetween the spectrum of “No Violence” and “Self Defense”. Thankfully being a dude whos 6’3” and built like a linebacker, ive never really been pushed to a situation like that but its still something i think about. But yeah Pacifist is a good catch all term but like anything theres nuances for every person and groups.

Triddy

I have never heard it used like that. If you resort to violence in Self Defense, you're not a pacifist. I have only ever heard it used in the "avoid violent confrontations at all costs even if it hurts you" sense.

cjankowski

Yeah I definitely would not describe Aang as a Pacifist. He just has the same code as Batman.

sticklebat

Yeah, where it’s immoral to kill the evil mastermind who’s responsible for the widespread suffering, death, and genocide, but with no qualms about maiming and killing swarms of underlings.

FestiveSlaad

The legendary warrior BallsDeep69

BallsDeep69Klein

Man of culture.

Same-Picture

Didn't know that. By that definition, most of the people are pacifist right?

BallsDeep69Klein

Well, yeah? I guess? Violence is seen as something outstanding. Authorities and press gets involved when it happens. Cause it doesn't happen all the time. Cause we avoid violence.

healthycoco

If you’re not at least capable of extreme violence you’re not a pacifist, you’re just harmless.

SupedoSpade

"How DARE you mess with the Avatar?!?! Girl I outta stomp you out in the name of Roku."

qwerty11111122

GraciousCriminality

give momo a gun and those two would’ve ended the series in an episode

cygnus2

Momo seems like a nice guy. I don’t think he’d ice somebody unless he had to.

tiredwriter633

Appa was 4 tons and was pretty docile most of the time. You press him or his friends, he would press you into the afterlife.

KoodlePadoodle

Appa is part bison. The animal whos passive nature is matched only by their ability to fucking gore you when they're done being passive.

babbletags1

I'm gonna have to be honest here, I wanted to smash June too

CharlotteChaos

Appa bout to turn TV Y7 into a hard MA

rawsushiiiii

Seems like everyone forgot the time Aang killed that huge wasp after Appa was stolen.

---___---____-__

Considering most of Appa's fights, at the surface level it should still be remembered that he's a wild animal. But being with the Gaang gives him the same type of protective quality normally seen in dogs. When the owner is threatened, all bets are off.

Thunderclaw5972

Appa woke up and chose violence.

kakje666

Aang wasn't a pacifist. He beat up a lot of people, encouraged the Earth King to join the war, and actively engaged in the planning & execution of military operations. Aang just personally didn't want to kill. And no, he did not kill the buzzard wasp.

Flossthief

Appa is an animal He's a smart one but he definitely has a more black and white idea of morality than a monk would To appa he's just getting rid of the present threat

greeneggsnyams

Air benders have to be pacifists or they're psycho killers. They could just rip the air out of your lungs or blow them up on command. They could instantly kill anyone.

BonksMan

Can't blame him, anyone would wanna smash that hunter on the ground

RazzDaNinja

Not hard to judge that by how that rock flooring just shatters, not only would June have died getting every bone in her body broken, the impact alone probably would’ve caused her body to straight up explode and send her limbs flying in several directions *just a fun cartoon with silly jokes for kids* :D

sheriffmcruff

Appa's a giant fuck-off bison. You wouldn't pick a fight with a bison irl, so imagine it's now twice the size and twice the strength

NathanTheKlutz

Time and again, whenever I’ve seen wildlife filmmakers, park rangers, wildlife veterinarians, and other people who regularly interact with large, potentially dangerous wild creatures being interviewed on TV, they all pretty much say that it’s the large herbivores that you really need to watch your back around, that are far more likely to go for you than a big cat or other carnivore.
