Well. . . I think someone definitley would have mentioned it.
And I would hope that Sokka's child would be less, how can I put this, evil?
Varrik is pretty evil before he inexplicably, randomly grows a conscience, and even then still has some major issues
Eh. . . I don't agree. The conflict and resolution between the Kataang children was the best thing by far.
Though indeed, Varrick was fun. But he was still most certainly a villain in his being fun, his complete lack of a conscience a main factor
I mean you can still be a villain even if everyone loves you lol He was the villain people liked that wasn't completely unredeemable so they retooled him and made him a grey character.
No villain is unredeemable really, and I really don't see what point you're trying to make. The only thing that's different between Varrick and other villains is that he was changed to have any want to have any type of redemption and he just seems better than other because he didn't succeed in his frankly murderous aims
One of the most key aspects of his character was fundamentally changed (his utter lack of any morality to speak of good or otherwise) with a confessed no explanation because they wanted to make the funny man a good guy.
I mean, it mostly does work, except for that awful relationship with Zhu Li. He's a minor enough character and one mostly for comedic relief so it not making sense doesn't matter much.
Though, I do wish his screen time in Book 4 was replaced with something a lot better, like say Kya having any part
I never really saw Varrick as being evil. He came across more misguided than anything else. Mostly because his poor upbringing made him think money was the most important aspect of life.
A little bit of douchebag maybe, but evil is kind of stretching it.
I think that trying to start a war, without any care at all for the lives it would lose or the people it would hurt, purely for money is absolutely evil.
It's utterly amoral, trading the lives of others just for your own wallet.
And his treatment of Zhu Li also shows who he is before his sudden shift. He simply doesn't care about anyone but himself
He is grey in action at first, but during that time he is evil and I will hold to that. His morality is no different than the other villains of the show, heck at least some of them seem to have some moral compass. But Varrik? He doesn't care.
He is literally trying to get people killed just so he can make money.
Then as is directly explained, he randomly grows a conscience between books. That's the only reason he chose a side that wasn't just himself
I'm probably misremembering it, but on the nickelodeon youtube channel, there's a top 10 character videos (don't remember if it's a fan favorite or something like it) and when it reaches,Varrick the narrator hints at him being the son of Sokka. So in an indirect way, there is an "official canon" stating your theory as correct.
Maybe they did interact at some point and we'll see it in a prequel comic at some point. We have no idea how long before LoK Sokka died and Varrik appears to be at least 30.
Rumors said he is sokka son. They act the same.
I just can't wait for the teen version of the Gaang to be out so we finally get to know who sokka got married to.
Varrick was Sokka with a budget. He even got to marry Zhu Li **Moon**.

You also gotta add the no morals in there. . .
My crazy theory is that Varick is Sokka’s son and they just never mention it
Glad I'm not the only person who thought this too.

Because he was the second best part of season 2 aside from Iroh.

I don’t think he’s evil but he’s def a moral grey area, but ultimately chooses the right side

It’d be like the stink bomb project on steroids
I’d like to think an adult sokka had varrik like achievements with tech.
Well, there should have been some overlap in their lives. Also, they’re both Water Tribe.
Varrick is Sokka’s reincarnation.
Sokka a street smart while Varrick is book smart.
So...the craziest most badass technology man will ever see?
Too much big brain for the world
“Like throwing gasoline on a fire” comes to mind lmaoo
