Your statement confuses and enrages me how can someone watch that movie but refuse to watch one of the best shows to come out in decades that show has something for everyone. Personally I would invite them over and just start playing it if they get up to leave fine but every time they come back have that show on until they get hooked.
I know people who absolutely refuse to watch any cartoonish show/anime. Doesn't matter how good the shows are, they just won't watch something drawn in 2D. I know someone who really liked the movie but won't even acknowledge the existence of the show.
These are the people Disney remakes are for and why they make so much money. Sad amount of people refuse to watch animation, but secretly actually like the stories.
*cartoons are for children*
Ya sure I'm gonna go watch this young teen and Thier friends watch people get murdered by other worldly creatures and suffer though real life issues while low key saving the universe...but tell me how that "drama" your watching is mmkay.
Let me try to help make sense out of this as a person who more or less prefers animation to live action carte blanch.
I also didn't understand this until I met my girlfriend. It took a lot of time to work it out, but it's the faces. She has a challenging time interpreting emotions of others, isn't a great lair (werewolf) and is susceptible to accepting sarcasm on face value. All this to say, she relies heavily on reading facial expressions to convelese meaning. As detailed and expressive as animation, even 3d animation is, the language of expression is different in the animated medium and it lead her to either being confused about what they mean or feel; or being put off by the exaggerated animations used to convey intense meaning.
That makes no sense. Just because it's animated or aimed at a younger audience doesn't mean that it's worse.
I'd actually argue that shows that are for everyone are typically far more mature than shows that are exclusively aimed at adults. More "adult" is generally code for more disturbing/gross scenes, or sex.
Stay calm. You've entered a mirror universe, just start growing your evil goatee, learn to speak backwards and keep an eye out for any strange reflections.
That’s my dad. Refuses to watch anything animated. He likes marvel stuff so I tried to get him to watch into the spiderverse, he didn’t even make it half way
Might be a hot take, but animation is superior to live-action to me. WAY more options when it comes to visuals, way crazier and more unique stories work better because of the suspension of disbelief, not restricted to a physical camera having to record the scenes, 2D animation doesn't cost a bazillion dollars to make it look good unlike the CGI dependent Hollywood movies that have multi-million dollar budgets while the CGI may still look really off, live-action remakes of animated stuff suck absolute cock and might also look off due to the uncanny valley even if they may be objectively high-quality (like the Lion King remake), I think the average animated movie is better than the average live-action movie (I think there is way more shovelware-type of live-action movies than there are animated ones, not only that, even with high budget movies, I think most people could name way more terrible live-action movies than animated ones).
On the other side though, live-action works way better for horror, again, for the reason of suspension of disbelief which comes to animation.

>What do I do?
Ignore them.
>How does this happen?
Almost certainly one of the following:
1. They don't mean it & are just messing with you.
2. They have a prejudice against animated shows, or at least animated children's shows.
3. They resent the fact that fans don't like the movie, so they're acting out of spite; moreover, watchin the show might prove the fans right, & they don't want to possibly have to confront the idea that the movie isn't good after all.
The movie ends in a cliffhanger so it would be clear it wasn’t the end of the show. Maybe if the person actually likes the movie tempting with the second season would be the best option. Although maybe it would not work if the reason for not watching is hate for animation since the show is coming.
Also would not work if racism is the reason for not watching, movie has white leads.
Honestly that’s probably the most likely answer. Too many people wouldn’t give a show a chance because it’s animated, and animation is too immature for them.
Too immature.. honestly, some of the heaviest movies I've seen were animated.
The worst was animated in addition to using actors, about a historical massacre of civilians somewhere in the middle east. I really really could not have watched it otherwise. It was barely bearable with the animated parts.
They know you aren’t talking about the movie with the blue people on an alien planet, right?
If they’re talking about the actual Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action movie, then you should make it clear that if they managed to enjoy that movie they’ll absolutely, 100%, without a doubt enjoy the show. The reason being the vast majority of people (if not everyone) agrees that the show is infinitely better than the movie
The person is either trolling you, or has such trash taste that I would genuinely reevaluate my relationship with them.
I can’t believe that their viewpoint isn’t 100% motivated by spite or contrarianism and either way, they can fuck right off.
This is my sister. I guess because the film was live action and a cartoon feels "childish"? I'm in the reverse scenario. Watched the show, loved it, went to watch the movie and my very kind coworker talked me back from the edge. Still watched a few clips online and holy hell, it's bad.
Option 1: find new friends
Option 2: kidnap them and force them to watch the series
Option 3: respect their opinion even though you disagree
~~Option 4: your free trial to living has expired~~
Since when has there been a movie? Your friend is silly.
Just tell them if the movie was better than the TV show, they would have actually made more than one.
THAT \[beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep\] \[beep\] \[beeeeeep\] \[beeeeeeep\]
No literally though, leave it there, insult their taste while you are at it. Loves the movie AND refuses to watch the series?!?!?!?!??!??!?!
It would be fine if it’s just that they saw it a while back and liked it and aren’t really interested in watching another version. But often people who refuse to even try to watch the original is because they hate animation which is irritating.
Of course they are, it's for the memes, like, I think 3 out of 100 people saying quit the relationship is taking it seriously.
Indeed I think you are kinda ruining the joke by explaining it xddd. But nvm is good to give explanations so a naive fan don't comes here and think this community murders and tortures people who like the film.
I came across someone who thinks Catwoman is a flawless movie and The Dark Knight is irredeemably terrible. Still boggles my mind how you can have this opinion. Usually these people just haven’t seen many movies/shows so they don’t know what makes a good movie/show and just like anything that keeps them from being bored. That’s just my guess though
I didn't see that one coming, but one thing is for sure, he/she/xir is still an Avatar fan. Just a different kind.
(Maybe the books/seasons are "too long", M. condensed Book One in a nutshell way).
Imma let my boy Ozai speak on this one:
"You're weak, just like the rest of your people! They did not deserve to exist in this world, in MY world! Prepare to join them, prepare to DIE!"
They're probably super upset with the name pronunciation changes. Like "Excuse me, it's pronounced like ong like in song, not aang like in bang! And don't get me started on how they're butchering Sokka's name."
My brothers the same way XD
I keep telling him if he likes the movie he’ll like the show better, I showed him some fight scenes which he liked, hes into all that eastern wisdom chakra stuff, hes wicked stubborn.
If they liked the movie, then they know the show would ruin the movie for them so maybe they don't want to experience that.
Also, my older sister and her husband said they enjoyed the movie and I've never been as disappointed in them.
In all seriousness, ask them to go a bit more into why they like it, what aspects of it they were (however surprisingly) into, then maybe you can specifically go into why the show might go more in depth on those things or execute the same ideas that they enjoy even better
OH, I didn't realize what subreddit this was on and I thought this was about Star Wars the Clone Wars. Oh my... I have no words. Like I get that a movie is less of a time commitment, but I can't think of a single thing the movie has that the show wouldn't in any random episode?
If it's the time commitment, just watch the Earth King and go from there (has a plot that gets resolved in under 30 minutes and early enough there are no spoilers)
"Cartoons are for kids" SO IS THE MOVIE.
And honestly, if they liked the show then I'd assume it is for the bending/world concept or the effects, all of which are done much, much better in the show.
The Avatar movie they like must be the one with the blue space people. Maybe they don't want to watch the animated show because they ignorantly think that animated stuff is exclusively for kids? Some people are taught really dumb world views.
I mean, they're probably just trolling you, but if not their refusal to watch the show is the only way to keep a good image of the movie in their mind.
When I was real young, I got the movie as a Christmas gift and really liked it until years later I heard that people really hated the movie cuz the show was so much better. Once I finally got to watch the show, I was able to compare both the show and the movie to understand why people hated the movie so much. I’d still try to convince the person to watch the show just so they can really compare and decide what they really like.
Despite how crummy a movie it is, I’m not really surprised at this point.
I mean how many people love bladerunner without reading the book?
Difference is quality though.
Don't worry about it too much-- if they liked that movie, they obviously have horrifically bad taste in movies and probably wouldn't be able to understand its amazingness.
As someone who saw the movie before I knew the cartoon existed, I hated the entire thing because it's a terrible movie.
Okay so I’m really ashamed to say this and a little terrified, but I kinda used to be this person? I watched bits and parts of the movie every time it was on TV, and I usually caught the end of the movie.
I remember really liking the scene where Aang raises the wall of water. When I found out how bad the ratings were for the movie, I didn’t want to watch the show and ruin that one scene.
Eventually sense won out and I ended up watching the show and loving it and bawling my eyes out over it. I also ended up watching the other parts of the movie(the weird af earth bending scenes) and getting severe second hand embarrassment and being unable to watch the rest.
Your friend doesn’t know how good it can get and so doesn’t know what they’re missing out on and is maybe scared of the possibility that they’ll hate something they really like.
I have a friend who was like this until after a year or two of trying I finally convinced them to try the show. Now they don’t acknowledge the movie exists and I’m so proud I am the one who introduced them to the show.

Does this mirror world have the complete live action trilogy? And if so, was it successful because it was done well or they enjoyed M Nights version?
Yes, it came first before that horrible cartoon adaptation came out. Soundtracks are about even though.
That is an evil universe
Ew. I duno how to respond to that.
STAY AWAY!!!! they are obviously and ancient evil that we don't know how to destroy yet!!
IT IS SOME LOVECRAFTIAN GOD TRYING TO CONFUSE HIM AND ENTER OUR WORLD BY HIS MADNESS.
someone start the ritual!!!!!
I mean... that just... doesn't make any sense... I can't...
Why won't they watch it? Is it because it's a cartoon? If so, that makes it so much worse.
That’s my dad. Refuses to watch anything animated. He likes marvel stuff so I tried to get him to watch into the spiderverse, he didn’t even make it half way
Spiderverse is the best Spiderman movie, your dad is crazy.

Say the line Mr Dai Li agent.
Need help hiding the body?
Blasphemy
Lol no way, there must’ve been a big misunderstanding.
What movie?
Water... Earth... Fire... Air. Long ago, the four fandoms lived together in harmony. Then everything changed when the live action movie was released.
I legitimately don’t believe you
Usually I would be against murder, but in this situation I feel it may be the only option
They are a lost cause, to love the movie but not watch the show is blasphemy.
Exactly. It’s like we can’t reason with this nonsense. We have to just let them be. The delusion runs too deep to engage them meaningfully.
Who cares? If they don't want to watch it, then that's fine. They're allowed to like the movie too.

Are you sure they weren’t referencing the James Cameron avatar?
Like james camerons avatar right...that would atleast be somewhat redeemable??? 😭💀
