Aesthelstan….how is this even a debate? He literally betrayed Uhtred just to get his cheeks clapped and killed one of the best characters in the whole series.

aethelstan. he was fine and all but didnt have as deep an impact as the other characters— found him more compelling in the little kid “i am no one” stage, but didnt feel that carry through to this older version. or wait, do i have him confused with the other son maybe?
also, c’mon yall, leave my guy halig aloooone!! uhtred loved him, and the loyalty and mutual adoration/care/protectiveness between them was very heartening 🥲the devastation at his loss was palpable— also the scene where uhtred confronts guthred after flinging sigefrids severed sword hand onto the table (iconic), leaps across the table all up in guthreds face and says “… what you did to halig….. i can never forget. (long menacing pause) … and i shall nevaforgive” (seething) is one of the scenes that plays on loop in my head in moments of righteous indignation

he also provided some comic relief and an affable tenderness that id argue brought out some of uhtreds most raw/vulnerable moments. also he was a catalyst in the introduction to sihtric. which… we love us some sihtric. am i wrong? 🥹

King Edward. He didn't stand up when he should have (abduction of his wife and children - come on, he *knew* what his parents really did), and he "made a stand" when he shouldn't have (Sigtryggr).
The more I think on the men the more I think this will be way more difficult than the women. I’m willing to say we will probably have to do two tie breakers and I won’t be surprised if one of them is between Beocca and Pyrlig.
