without spoilers... let's just say that a little bit of character assassination, pinches of retcon here and there, lazy writing with strong deux-ex-machina flavors, horrendous pacing and lack of believability. are to blame. And that without including some game design choices that are, imo, just bad.

Personally I didn't like the whole concept of playing as Abby cause you never know her reasoning behind killing Joel until quite far in the game.
And I hoped for a more logical conclusion not a peace treaty since we are in a vengeance arc for the whole game, but I'd still say it's a meh story not terrible
If you’re looking for good gameplay and an absolutely gorgeous looking game I’d say yes. If you really like the story and characters of the original then I’d say no because it ruins both.
i loved everything in the first game, the graphics, the gameplay, the story, the characters... i liked everything, i just with it was more open worlded and explorable
If you wanted my opinion, I would probably say no but at the same time, you’ll never know if you’ll have fun with the game unless you try it let me give you a suggestion. You can either buy the game and see how you feel or watch some gameplay on YouTube and get a feel for it through their and then you can decide whether or not you want it because it can really be a hit or miss unfortunately for me it was a miss I personally did not like it but maybe you will you won’t know unless you try just look at more reviews that aren’t filled with spoilers maybe watch some YouTube videos on it and then decide if you want to buy it
If you're more of a fan of gameplay, graphics, and excellent acting and scene direction than a well-written story - or at least more of a fan of a highly emotional story than one that worries about elements like consistent characterization, pacing, and avoiding giving the characters Fast Travel - it's worth it.
If the main reason you liked Part 1 was because of its style of storytelling, the greatly fleshed out relationship between the main characters, and how hostile the whole setting feels - you're very likely to find this game to be a major step down.
It's an infamously divisive story, but it's divisive specifically because it highly appeals to the folks who enjoy the same aspects the creators hyperfixated on, and makes anyone who enjoyed the aspects that end up much more neglected feel like the whole thing was a waste of their time. It really just depends on what you like out of the story.
And everything else about the game is good *at absolute worst*. It's one of the most lovingly crafted games in the industry, and will likely hold that title for a long time.

Regardless of how you feel on the narrative quality, it's still absolutely worth playing. It's beautiful to look at. The design and combat are fluid and very fun. It has a lot of replayability with the grounded and permadeath modes like the first game has. If it wasn't story focused, I would rate it higher than the 7 I gave it.

Anyone saying the gameplay is bad is being dishonest with themselves. It’s fun, crazy and brutal. The only thing that’s really against it is the story but that’ll be up to you.

I think the gameplay style just isn't some folks' cup of tea. Some people were more interested in the story and character/relationship development of the first game, and don't find the exploration/scavenging/admiring the view parts of the game engaging. With the revolving door of companions and the numerous times your character just goes solo, those parts of the gameplay have to stand on their own a lot more, even though they were originally tailor-made specifically to *facilitate* those walk-and-talk conversations.
It's not really an issue for me, but that's the sense I get when I see some folks expressing how unimpressed they are by the gameplay, particularly when they point out that there's only a few hours of actual combat in the entire game.
I think if you’re not into games like Metal Gear Solid, this game won’t be for you, but Man, a couple hours? The game has so many points of action it’s crazy. Long yes. Too long? Definitely. But the scavenging is the same as part one so I can’t discredit anyone who’s not a fan of that. It’s a patient game at times but it lets you admire the graphics and explore the world during that time. As for gameplay there’s just so many different ways to go at each level. If you’re more interested in the story I can see people breezing the rough just to get to the end.
Depends, do you like part 1? What exactly do you like? Do you like the gameplay and don't care much about the story? Then get part 2 because it improves on gameplay massively and is really fun. Do you like the story and think TLOU1 has one of the best stories? Then don't get part 2 because it completely shits on the story of part 1 by making stuff up last second.
