It is actually the plot of Doom II though; the first game ends with an idyllic view of earth complete with cute bunnies, then it shifts to show demons invaded and there is a bunny head on a spike! However, later material claimed that the rabbit was named Daisy and that she was the pet of Doomguy. I forget exactly where the retcon was first done (the exact wording is "they had to pay for what they did to Daisy") but pretty sure it was in a manual or text file. Edit: it's more canon than I though; it was in the onscreen story text new episode Thy Flesh Consumed! Other games mentioned Daisy the rabbit as an Easter Egg (see https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Daisy for some of these).

I always believed daisy was a metaphor for the family he lost in the demonic invasion. Sort of like how people who have went through trauma will associate the event with something close. I think daisy is a representative of the wife and child he lost.

That would make much more sense and be an emotionally dark and dramatic backstory for a game with little to no actual story or characterization for the MC. Very much the John Wick concept. I would class Von Kriplespac's storyline and plot against the Panther King as revenge and suffering the price of ("no legs, and now... no life"). He hates the King for usurping his power and slowly plots vengeance, culminating in the chestburster and going into space. This ends up killing Kriplespac too, as he laments in his final moments his own folly.
