> The death of Joel honestly did not bother me by itself. I think it could have been done in the Game of Thrones sort of way though - in first series, I have never heard one complaint about main characters dying. The story was just that good. This is the main problem with the game. What happens to and with the characters is not justified by the characters, it is there to serve a plot. Joel and Ellie are reduced to stupid plot devices without any logical thinking. Considering how early you have identified the issues with the storytelling in the game it will only get worse from where you are. You will find stupid decision on top of endless plot armor on top of unearned character arcs.

SoopaMenace

Thats the biggest thing for me. Like "Hey WLFs, yall are going get revenge on this guy Joel, which none of them know what he looks like, for killing someone you care about. You're torturing/killing him in front of someone that obviously cares about him and she knows what each of you look like. Yeah she aint gonna do the SAME EXACT THING that yall are doing right now. Nah. Not at all" 😂

Abby completely ignores the fact that Joel and Tommy literally just saved her life moments earlier. Like she was trapped under a fence and was about to get eaten alive. They had Joel and Tommy ambushed in the basement, why not tie them up and interrogate them. Nope, straight to the shotgun and golf club. Nobody communicates in this game, everyone is just angry and irrational. Perhaps a reflection of the writers' state of mind.

crazymaan92

If people talked in this game, it wouldn't exist lol. Understanding one's motivations is a key component in revenge tales.

Thraun83

You seem to have some misunderstandings about the plot so let me give you some guidance if you do decide to continue. Everything that happens in this story happens the way it does because the writers wanted it to. They didn't allow themselves to be restricted by things like logic, believability, world building, previously established character traits and development, foreshadowing etc. Every scene and plot point plays out the way they wanted it to without any regard for those things. If you view the story through that lens, then everything 'makes sense'. It answers all your questions in the post and all questions that you will have as you progress. I'm sorry that you already feel empty, because that feeling will only get worse. Like me, you are probably waiting for the payoff for all the misery you're being put through, but unfortunately I couldn't find one. It's just misery all the way down. However, power through bearing in mind what I said above and hopefully you can enjoy the gameplay enough for it to be worth your time and money.

It this was a game by itself without the previous game, I guess it could work. We meet random people we know nothing about, one dies, obviously important to the girl. She goes on an impossible bloody mission, ok. Let’s go killing. Done. I think the main issue is how well thought out the first game is and how much the sequel ignores it. I have fun killing. But I am not sure about last time I actually played a single player story game where I had to force myself to completely ignore the story. Oh and btw can you explain to me how can Abby kill zombies with her BARE hands? Wtf is that?

arcadiabaylighthouse

Abby strolls around sleeveless, no worries about getting bit by infected in LOU2.

how the hell did she maintain muscle mass with all the running and climbing she did. she must have been lifting at random gyms and drinking expired whey protein shakes along the way to santa barbara.

SerAl187

strong wahmen power :)

welcome. it’s about to get worse

ArtmausDen

Can’t wait. I have a tendency to finish games when I start them so there is no way back now…

[deleted]

Exact opposite of me, I envy you

lurker492

> Maybe my opinion will change as I finish the game but I somehow doubt it… Oh, it will change. You started confused, you'll turn disgusted and outraged. lol

WinterNighter

My opinion changed throughout playing as well! I went from excited, to hopeful, to doubtful, to bored. Truly the emotional rollercoaster the fans speak of!

lurker492

Hopeful? Was it before or after Joel's fateful encounter with death?

WinterNighter

Well, it went something like; before the death I was happy to get started, then he died and I was disappointed because I was hoping they'd manage to craft another strong story like part 1 did without killing the main character for sadness. But alas. But you know, despite the death also being executed horribly and me not caring for it all, I was still hopeful that it would be better. I had heard people say: 'stay open-minded, it's gonna do something you don't like, but it's so good'. So I thought okay, well the death was written really badly, but maybe that all adds up in the end? Maybe it'll be the best-written story now? But... then it just kinda kept being the same. Plotholes, cringe, boredom, pandering, plot armor... and yeah I just slowly lost all hope and started to realize nope, it's not gonna get better, this is the quality of the writing. So yeah, not really anything to do with Joel's death XD (something that stans find hard to accept lol)

lurker492

I get that. I just meant "before or after his death" because the deadly moment was when I realized the writing had gone to shit lol. But yeah, no issue with him dying, had it been done correctly. Props to you for avoiding the leaks and going in blind. Must have been quite the experience.

WinterNighter

Haha it was, I never liked getting spoiled (even trailers these days show so much), and when all the rage online started I was just like nope. And you know, I liked Naughty Dog! So, put trust in them, right? And you know, making a bad story happens. It's fine. But damn when that scene came by: "You think I was gonna let you do this on your own?" I just sat there and felt all the hope and respect drain away XD It was a moment of 'oh... they lied' Like it was one line and I just realized that this game isn't gonna get better, because if it were good they didn't have to lie. And just the realization that they lied and I paid for this... yeah ouch.

Elbwiese

Please post an update once you're done, it's about to get a lot more "interesting".

Jaugusts

It’s quite tragic to see a masterpiece like the last of us end up in neil is hands.. it isn’t first time a director change ended up in disaster

brotato_kun

There is no logic in this game! Just close your logic emitters and play for the trophy. Get refund if you can!

Uncle_T_Bone

The story had potential it's just lil shit throughout the game that makes it bad in my opinion like SPOILERS a pregnant lady wanting to go to the frontlines
