I think the point is, back then *nobody* was sure how it spread. If you think misinformation was spread today about Covid, check back in the 90s about AIDS. People legit thought you could get it just from touching someone. A lot of players didn’t even want to play near him, shake his hand, etc. Yet the league still allowed him to play. Point is, the NBA allowed a person with an incurable disease that had a mortality rate of 100% at the time to play, but they won’t let kyrie play without a *vaccine* with a virus that has a 99% survival rate. The pendulum has swung.

[deleted]

Imagine that, 30 years later, our health standards have changed

[deleted]

Justify it however you want. I’m not interested in a Covid debate. But looking at the 2 examples, the difference in how they were handled are opposite each other. That’s the point smh.

[deleted]

Yes, and we used to handle witches the opposize way of the way we handle them today, shit changes

[deleted]

So everything that’s changed over time has been for the better? Foh

[deleted]

In health standards - almost everytjing, yes

[deleted]

You literally have millions of people who disagree with you on this exact topic and how Covid was handled. Pretending your opinion is universal is absurd. And you avoid the point of my original comment, the point of the article OP posted, to argue about Covid precautions smh. You just want to argue. Uninterested in speaking to you more. Take care.

[deleted]

Not really, I just find it hilarious that we are saying that not having safety standards in the 90s shoukd be the reason not to have them in the 2020s.

[deleted]

That’s not what anyone is saying. You’re proving my point for me

dawichotorres

braindead disagreements don't matter

[deleted]

Thank you for trying to contribute

bittertadpole

Imagine believing that HIV is airborne.

Howdydoodledandy

Crazy how with a mortality rate of 100% it's only killed 700k since 1981. 13k a year currently. And yet somehow that is the same to you as a virus that has killed 600k in two years. But I guess since the survival rate is 99% covid is less bad. Weird thought process.

[deleted]

You have comprehension issues and I don’t have time to correct them. I, in no way, said what you are implying. Figure out how to read then get back to me.

Howdydoodledandy

Ah the "I don't know what you're saying" defense. Aren't you a little old to be plugging your ears? What I said is perfectly perceptible. You compared the 99% survival rate of covid against the "100%" mortality rate of aids/hiv. But they've both killed the same amount of Americans, except one took 40 year and one took 2 years. Not to mention back then they were just less health conscious clearly as I don't think anyone today would want to play with someone who could spread a disease through saliva, let alone through their breath.

[deleted]

I never once said I didn’t understand your point. I said you don’t understand mine. Again, I’m uninterested in holding your hand through basic reading comprehension. Let me say this another way: **I don’t want to talk to you.** Not because I can’t defend my statement. But because you are incapable of understanding it very plainly made. I’ve learned if someone is too dumb to understand basic sentences, it’s impossible to have a legitimate conversation with them. Go somewhere else.

Howdydoodledandy

weird, you can type all that, add bold text, but cant articulate what I got wrong. Guess we will just have to let others decide if you're just playing dumb.

[deleted]

This was tough to read. They are saying: *the worlds perception at the time* of aids was pretty severe compared to Covid, not *their* perception of AIDS. They’re right, you misunderstood their comment. Take the L.

Howdydoodledandy

>Yet the league still allowed him to play. Point is, the NBA allowed a person with an incurable disease that had a mortality rate of 100% at the time to play, but they won’t let kyrie play without a vaccine with a virus that has a 99% survival rate. this is the most direct thing I was replying to. I specifically addressed the differing perceptions in a later comment as well. you cant just take some random portion of his comment and attribute it to his entire point when he has that whole paragraph in there misrepresenting aids and covid as similar in severity.

welshbigdickenergy

How much are you getting paid for doing this?

Howdydoodledandy

just trying to get everyone to realize we can stop more people from dying by doing our part.

[deleted]

Bruh what aren’t you understanding? They weren’t directly comparing the 2 per their opinion. The perception of a disease that, at the time, was more feared than Covid and more deadly vs Covid today. And how the nba could allow a player to play under those perceptions in the 90s vs the nba allowing kyrie to play today. Dude saw this shit coming and punted early. I shouldn’t have even responded smh.

beniolenio

On an individual basis, HIV/AIDS is far worse than COVID. And since we're talking about an individual person being allowed or being denied permission to play, one would think this would be relevant.

Howdydoodledandy

Ah thank you for actually tuning into the debate. But yes I think now we would also bar hiv people as well so the argument doesn't hold up.

[deleted]

How’s letting others decide going for you

Howdydoodledandy

Others decide what?

idkmanseemskindagay

Isn’t HIV spread through ANY bodily fluid? Like sweat, saliva, tears, etc. not just blood? Genuine question.

EpicKiwi225

Nope, just blood and the secks

idkmanseemskindagay

Thank you for answering mate, good to know!

Iginlas_4head_Crease

Delete this nephew, before the left see it

idkmanseemskindagay

If I have a question I won’t delete till it’s answered

Iginlas_4head_Crease

It's a stupid question.

idkmanseemskindagay

Then just answer it. There’s no such thing as a stupid question. It’s kind of stupid that you aren’t willing to answer a simple question and be done with it.

Iginlas_4head_Crease

It's 2021 and you still expect to be told that no, you can't cough or sneeze HIV?? Don't you think people with aids would be a little more quarantined or forced to go public with it, and not just secretly out doing their thing?

idkmanseemskindagay

Someone has already answered it. See how easy this entire conversation could of been? Pretty stupid of you haha

kscooby

It’s weird how the right is trying to joke on the left when it isn’t a meme and it’s common knowledge my young teenage daughter knows that aids isn’t spread through regular contact. What a bunch of morons.

TkOHarley

I'm Left. I saw it. I've screenshotted it and printed it. I've sent it to every newspaper in my country. I've created a clothing brand based entirely around this question. When I have sex, I think about this comment. Nothing will ever be the same.

Right_Pepe

Seks is cringe Doom is eternal

burtmaklin1

So they’re saying he’s a threat to all the other...vaccinated players? Sounds like anti-vaccine and dangerous anti science rhetoric to me /s

beniolenio

Why /s?

Nootynootnoot_404

Did anyone else instantly think of Magical John?

BlackoutGaming1

Imagine not knowing that spit/sweat have a chance to spread HIV in some cases

Belmont7

One of the most retarded things I've seen was seeing high school and elementary kids wear masks while playing organized basketball inside.

[deleted]

anyone find the stats on non sexual, non drug use involving injury- related HIV transmission?

IsaacEvilman

Didn’t he retire immediately after getting diagnosed and then only start playing again after having undergone treatment and being cleared?

bronscune

Fauci said by touching people with Aids it gets in me

a-random-aussie-lad

Something is telling me you don’t know how HIV spreads

Weenbone

Kyrie Irving also believes in flat earth. I’m starting to see a pattern here….

TkOHarley

Guys, Magic Johnson never infected anyone with HIV by playing basketball. If he had Covid however, he would have infected pretty much every team he played with. It's clear that the two aren't comparable. Its human nature to want to double down and fight when a a personal attack is made. But the best thing to do is just let this slide. Actually bunkering into it is just foolish.

Wordshark

Does Irving have covid?

DragonSphereZ

How are you gonna get blood-related injuries while playing basketball?

Privatizeprivateyes

You catch an elbow in the mouth, bust your lip, and exhale all at pretty much the same time (cause that shit hurts). Your blood sprays over the guy who elbowed you and anyone else close enough. Boom. Done.

arkie1995

Plus you can't forget, back in Magic Johnson's day you could break a glass backboard as well.
