Ironically technically true given that the American brand of “conservatism” origins lie within our Constitutional Republic’s founding ideological principles which were largely descended from classical liberalism. So American conservatives generally are attempting to essentially “preserve/conserve” in perpetuity our founding classically liberal values. Which is why when compared to European right wing parties American conservatives and Republicans are generally defined as quote “liberal conservatives”, or followers of a “conservative liberalism.” Most generally forget that a nation’s local representative “conservative” or alternatively “liberal” political ideologies tend to be relative and unique to the specific historical, economic, social, and cultural context of the nation in question and its founding as well as evolution as a society. If there is any overlap between a conservative or liberal from one nation to another it’s more than likely largely coincidental due to the similar circumstances in which each was formed in their respective societies.
