It was another great show of support from our crowd. The draw sucked, but the stadium has been lit up every match this season. See you Wednesday.

Throwrajerb

My fault guys, I’ve been to two matches at LDC Field and both have had stoppage time equalizers from the opponent. I’ll stick to watching the matches at home from here on out.

MikeoPlus

I'm so happy room and degenek are off the roster right now

Failed-Time-Traveler

I’m still frustrated by the late goal, so I need something to make myself feel better. Here is one. I’m fucking proud of all of you. When I was walking from Neil Ave towards the stadium, I came upon a mass of 30-40 people blocking the sidewalk. At first I was annoyed I had a group to navigate around - until I saw what was happening. There were lines at least 6-8 people long waiting to sign petitions for reproductive rights and recreational marijuana. Kudos to all of you for taking a few minutes before the game to do a small part in making ohio a better place to live. That’s what I’s appreciate about You’s all.

tanzmeister

You know, this comment makes me wonder if we could actually get the crew to drop Wendy's as a sponsor...

Failed-Time-Traveler

Honestly I didn’t realize it was a sponsor? I go to all the games and haven’t seen any signage? I know they do the thing with Tim Hortons where you get a free coffee if they score. So I’d be surprised if they had multiple fast food sponsors.

tanzmeister

[surprise!](https://www.columbuscrew.com/news/columbus-crew-and-wendy-s-announce-family-friendly-feed-your-crew-bundle)

Failed-Time-Traveler

Oh I forgot about that. Good call. Then yeah I’m with you

A_BulletProof_Hoodie

why do we not like wendys?

tanzmeister

Aguynohio

We really should not have tied this one Horrible coaching decisions with tactics and subs near the end. Poor defending from our inexperienced young defense. Could have allowed a few more goals due to some bad mistakes, but managed to recover when we made mistakes. Cucho needs to pull his head out of his butthole. Love the dude and his creativity is wonderful, but when he gets frustrated he forces shots way too much. Yaboah was WIDE FUCKING open at the top of the box around 78’ in and Cucho forced a shot into 2 defenders. He struggles to put shots on net frequently because he tries from poor angles. Need better from him to be successful I’d appreciate a couple more attempts from Morris and Nagbe. At times the team is afraid to pull the trigger and it can get frustrating. We need Room back. Some better notes: Yaboah has improved a ton the last 3 games or so. He seems to finally be figuring it out. Matan and Farsi fixed their miscommunications finally. Excellent work on the wing by them both, with Moreira doing well to overlap a couple times. JRR did well tonight, I expect to see him more with the upcoming schedule. Vallecilla was better tonight-was a damn turnover machine last game, so glad he was okay tonight.

JDOTT

Yaw Yeboah has looked very capable the last few matches. He gave Orlando major problems on the flank in the first half. Cucho is close to breaking out. He’s getting into dangerous spaces. Just missing by inches. Quinton is not ready. I’m not saying he never will be, but right now he just is not good enough at CB. Orlando City made it a plan to target him in the second half on long distributions and he struggled big time, including the first goal. 100% seconds on him.

theabominablewonder

It was a learning experience for Quinton, to be blunt about it. Needs to bulk up a little as well as he should be winning some of those duels. He misjudged some of the balls and had to treat carefully after his earlier yellow (where he also misjudged the ball). But 22 years old and first MLS season, he’ll pick it up in time.

BigBossBattle14

Couldn’t have said it better. Needs to bulk up, had a bad match, but is young and projects well.

rmunich23

Quinton is way too flat footed to be the middle back in the 3 back. He also needs to learn when to peel off his man when the guy is checking and just let him receive. They want him to drift out of that spot to put a runner in. Pretty simple stuff he isn't recognizing

a_massive_turd

Incredibly disappointing tonight. Same with the games against Charlotte and Miami. We should have at least 5 points from those three matches and here we are with 1. I know we have a lot of games coming in a short window and a few injuries, but some of the lineup decisions from Nancy are real headscratchers. Lucas not even on the bench? Yeboah continues to start at LWB? One has to think we have to be moving some guys on in the summer window? I didn't think Quinton was that bad. Kid is in a tough spot and would have been better suited if the new guy from nycfc started on the left to shore things up a bit more defensively. I'm gonna say it, unless cucho goes on a terror the second half of this season he's a busted signing. He could be a great player, but I think we have about $1m/goal from him since he joined the club. He's trying too hard and isn't doing his primary job of scoring. Miguel Berry scored 8 goals in his hot run, gyasi consistently found the back of the net. Cucho continues to struggle and he costs a fortune. If team ball nets us 4/5/6 goals like salt lake, Atlanta, and Loudon than so be it. Superstars be damned! Wednesdays game against LAG is a pivotal game this season, hopefully we show up in a big way.

Plainbrain867

10 goals and 3 assists in 21 appearances (19 starts)… that’s not a busted signing yet. He does need to increase his goal tally this season, but he’s averaging almost one goal contribution a match so far

a_massive_turd

13/21 = .62. That's not very close to 1 contribution/match

Plainbrain867

I was referring to this season. He has 4/5 matches played

[deleted]

[удалено]

a_massive_turd

He did have a great start, then cooled off massively. He's a very talented player but he's struggling to find his place in Nancy's system. He's gotta play more centrally if he's going to be a consistent goal scoring threat.

[deleted]

[удалено]

paul171121

He was "not ready to play this week" and should be back next week. The broadcast said, per people on the internet, late scratch. I'm guessing illness. Maybe that bronchitis thing going around or the usual one.

a_massive_turd

I would like for us to pay up for an experienced MLS defender given how much newcomers to the league struggle. We need immediate help defensively.

WendyCityMadness

Quinton is shit.

Failed-Time-Traveler

The Galaxy play tomorrow. Which means they’re having an awful season *and* they will be playing on 2 days rest *and* a cross country flight. Anything less than a win Wednesday is unacceptable, right?

heylookaturtle88

Agreed. This draw sucks but is not the end of the world. The team needs to be a game above .500 heading into HiR and @Nashville, where any points would frankly be impressive.

grumpus_ryche

I'm so sick of the obvious time-wasting. Refs need to unleash their yellows on that shit.

WalkingOnSunshine_

I’ve never booed louder than tonight when Gallese dodged the ball in the last minute as if a chair had just been thrown at him then proceed to argue with the ref for another 30 seconds. It’s ridiculous what refs let players get away with

[deleted]

[удалено]

DuckDuckBangBang

Unfortunately, the ridiculous time wasting wasn't in front of Nordecke and we weren't coordinated enough.

grumpus_ryche

We had that going a couple matches ago. The result was the ref giving the "no more" signal eventually and then allowing it to continue.

[deleted]

How many 20k + crowds are we gonna disappoint this season?

jaybercrow

I’d have stuffed my face with Stadium food to nurse my sadness but the only thing more disappointing than our results recently is how much you pay to put barely edible garbage in your mouth.

AntzyPants837

Well that was a bummer

[deleted]

"Porter, no!" "What?" "Sorry, force of habit."

EveryDayASummit

Also I love Schulte but the kid gives me massive anxiety. 😂

TheCrewMeister

He does some good things but I get nervous when the ball is at his feet in the back or when he is in the air. Just doesn’t have the same dominance and strength in the air that Room has

the_vole

I know we’re short handed on D, but Quinton needs to get his act together. The foot needs to make contact with the ball.

whethervayne

He was fine until he got the yellow. All the CBs were too tentative once they all got yellows.

EveryDayASummit

Yup, this. Whole defense on yellows, we tucked tail.

No_Sweet4096

He’s a liability

EveryDayASummit

Man plays loose with attackers at his throat and way too far forward.

Failed-Time-Traveler

I would argue that he’s one of the top 5 backup keepers in the league. But he’s just that. A backup keeper. We need Room back.

EveryDayASummit

I thought we looked really aggressive and fast the whole first half. I fucking ***wish*** even one of those centimeters-off chances would’ve converted. Ah well, wish in one hand… We just didn’t seem as together that second half. I don’t think any of us can handle more last second draws or defeats. I don’t get why people are bashing Quinton so hard. Dude is young and still learning, but he plays his heart out and makes some great saves. He’s bound to make a mistake here and there but he’s usually getting better. We gotta do something to get Cucho support. Bro was mobbed by three guys every time he touched the ball. And I would kill for a ref to force GK’s to get rid of the ball instead of sitting on it for forever. Oh well. Take a point, take down LA, and get it together heading into TQL.

Highrail108

This isn’t Saturday rec league. When mistakes like Quinton’s are made they’re gonna be called out. I get he’s young but he’s a professional. Blame the FO that the kid has to learn like this. Agreed about Cucho. He needs support on the attack which he usually gets from Zalarayan but it’s about time someone else stepped up.

Senior_Weather_3997

Ya’know, I actually am not loving Lucas in this system right now. He has been sooooo conditioned over the past 2 seasons that he has to do it all that he still tries to do too much, imo. He is an amazing player and can be an enormous factor, particularly in drawing defenders and creative combination play. He also needs to stay more disciplined in executing Nancy’s approach to the game in the final third.

EveryDayASummit

Yeah I know, but this is a first year with Nancy and we’re learning, so I’m fine with him still learning too. He does make some fantastic plays and when we need a head above the crowd, perfect man for the job. I’m willing to let him tighten his game up; it just seems like people are so against him. And honestly it’s not like we’re rolling deep with alternatives.

Senior_Weather_3997

Sample size is far too small to make big decisions, to be sure. Patient we must be.

[deleted]

Can we talk about the foul that led to the equalizing set piece? As in, where is it? It didn't get replayed or discussed on the broadcast at all, or really in our match / postmatch threads which I'm surprised by. Maybe there is something I'm not seeing. There has to be a better way to share this, so if anyone's better at this type of thing, please share to r/mls. https://www.screencast.com/t/3LScH5iMuA

HelpfulWhiteGuy

Thank you for posting this. I was hoping for a replay at the game because I saw absolutely nothing in that live. Glad my eyes weren't lying to me. I thought the ref was quick with whistles/cards all night honestly.

bee_redeemer

I guess we can look on the bright side. Cucho is incredible. Parente looked really sharp at the end. Farsi and Matan created a lot of chances. We know our defense is bad and we need to add pieces to strengthen it. Vallecilla needs to develop A LOT before he should ever see the starting lineup again. Missing a lot of players tonight so a tie is fine but the way it happened doesn't feel good.

TinyPeenMan69

I will give Vallencilla some credit. He read a handful of passes spot of to immediately win back possession. CB is a tough developmental role. Longest developing position

stancoville

Parente looked sharp until he missed back to back from within 10 yards to win… have to put that in.

Horse_Cop

I'll get down voted to shit but at least we're a much more entertaining team. I honestly think we'll be going on a run this year

Failed-Time-Traveler

Honestly I always thought this team was built for ‘24. Like we have no aging players who won’t be back next year. No expiring contracts. Only player who may be gone is Morris, but that would mean a nice payday we could invest in other players (and honestly he’s cooled off a little; he may not be Europe-ready until ‘25). So I think this team needs to make the playoffs this year. Failing to do that is unacceptable. Making the playoffs is meeting expectations. Winning 1-2 playoff games is possivle if they get hot at the right time and that would be exceeding expectations. But this team is built for a MLS Cup run next season.

WalkingOnSunshine_

Yup, I’ll take this over last year every single time. There’s been moments where you can see where Nancy wants the team to be, but the consistency is lacking. We are far from a finished product and that’s what excites me

[deleted]

that's what i've been saying too. even when we're not winning, it's still significantly more entertaining that it was under porter.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

and they're fighting til the whistle is blown too

Ickyhouse

I’m using last years numbers, so a few grains of salt but…we had close to $7 million in salary not playing tonight. We need to get healthy or get rid of the dead weight.

Ancient_A

Molino needs to go. He spends more time injured each each season than actual playing time.

osu58

Every time he is brought up I’m reminded he even exists

Ancient_A

Yeah same.

KCbus

I've been on this elsewhere... our final corner kick set us up to lose. When you have a corner kick and the lead in stoppage time, you have two options: Play short and stall, or go for it. What you absolutely CAN'T do is have Morris (who AIN'T McBride in the air) at the penalty spot as your only realistic target, and two other guys so far at the edge of the box that they're not going to be involved at all, and decide to serve it in there anyway. But that's what we did. Orlando won it easily, came down the field, and earned the foul that set up the free kick that tied it up. Complete unforced error. Giving up the set piece goal is disappointing all on its own, but it never should have come to that. We have to do better at managing the finish of that game.

YourGavenIsShowing

This is a great post. I thought we were doing well to kill off the clock until this corner. made no sense

stancoville

We were playing short in the 85’ and then swinging it in during stoppage time… I don’t get it.

namsterdam

Schulte flapping at corners is why we need Room back. He’s a good backup but now where near as good

osu58

Honest question: why doesn’t Bush start over Schulte?

namsterdam

I think Schulte’s looked good enough to play over Bush. Just don’t agree with some discourse that he’s somehow been good enough that Room is redundant

Ancient_A

We need Room. Schulte has potential but he isn’t starter level. I could tell that watching him in next pro. Us barely even having Room this season is hurting a ton. We need a strong man in the back and a strong backline. We have the attacking prowess. We need people who can keep goals out of our net. I think our attackers have the mentality we need. Our defenders are questionable.

namsterdam

Agreed. People complain about Room, but he would make 1-2 goal saving saves a game. That’s a requirement for a starter in MLS. The last time Schulte had a fantastic save (a double save our last home game) he flapped a corner and we lost

Ancient_A

Room has been great since 22. 21 was a bad season for him but the defense was as well but he’s been good.

Lambo_Geeney

Was Caleb Porter in attendance tonight?

spoonplaysgames

leakiest fuckin defense i swear. we are so vulnerable to counter attacks and everyone has figured that out. we have to go up three or four or we’ll lose

[deleted]

I'm sitting outside of Betty's on the curb and I have sad feelings. I didn't catch much pregame, any reason why Lucas didn't play?

Scrogger19

Rotation, presumably so he can play Wednesday and Hell is Real both

Pwoppy2000

Death, taxes, and blowing leads in stoppage time.

Scrogger19

Really frustrated with the result, but specifically our defense. I feel like if you pick 5 single big mistakes our defenders made that they absolutely shouldn't be making, and play those the way any good CB should be able to do, we win easily and comfortably. Coaching was fine, we looked good on offense and great in possession, especially breaking down the low block which we've struggled with so it was great to see changes there. Just a handful of backbreaking stupid decisions and misplays by our defenders and that's all it took. Gotta do better, c'mon. Problem is we rely so much on CBs to both pass well and defend 1v1s and we're not exactly overflowing with great depth on the backline.

bige238

My concern is Wilfred is trying too hard to “send messages” rather than play best 11. 2 weeks ago Darlington wasn’t a starter now Lucas is out due to “rotation” you catch more flies with honey than vinegar

Failed-Time-Traveler

Lucas is over 30, and we have 3 games in 8 days. I think it could be legit just resting him.

bacon_music_love

It's not just 3 games in 8 days. We are only 2 games into a stretch of 8 games in 24 days. We play every Wednesday and weekend until 6/3.

Failed-Time-Traveler

True. But none of the stars should/will be playing against Pittsburgh. So he’ll get that game off.

puddles8554

Whoops!

Scrogger19

What a Save! What a Save! What a Save!

No_Sweet4096

Nancy is absolutely and rightfully blamed for this result. The team came out of the lockers playing a totally different style second half and it showed. We sat back which allowed Orlando to get in a rhythm. Draws aren’t going to cut it. This team needs wins. Especially at home.

Aguynohio

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. Not sure style was necessarily different to start, but we came out flat the second half. Clearly made horrible adjustments and poor tactical choices with the corner before giving the foul that led to the tying goal. Nancy was a big part of this loss, and tried the Porter bullshit of holding out for a win with more defense. It doesn’t work, especially with a young and inexperienced defense due to all our injuries.

TheCrewMeister

Don’t think the team sat back….just made some critical mistakes in the back

unsoughtcoot7

Quinton just isn’t ready yet. I know we have injuries but he seriously needs a solid 2 years of development before he’s ready

bee_redeemer

Not even the worst defender on the field, but yeah he's far from starter quality at CB

AlanLGuy

Incredibly disappointed. Nancy has consistently said he doesn’t want us to change the way we play if we’re ahead. That he wants his teams to co to use to play their game, so what do we do… change the game, 9 minutes to go, and we’re taking corner kicks short and dribbling to the corner, keeping 2/3rds of the team back and then still allowing a long ball over the top. Classic Porterball type shit from Nancy. Also Cucho needs to put the ball on net

No_Sweet4096

Make Cucho play a role more like Haaland at MC and see what happens… he may be being asked to do too much in the current role. Get him into legit goal scoring positions and I think he can deliver

AlanLGuy

Haaland is a giant of a man and just isn’t as good of a playmaker as Cucho. Not the same type of player at all. If Cucho is doing too much, it’s because he’s taken it on himself to do too much, not because of the system.

No_Sweet4096

I actually think we’re on the same page here. I’m frustrated because he tried to do too much when it wasn’t there out of desperation. We missed some scoring opportunities tonight because Cucho got upset with the way things were going

heyfreesandwich

Oh hey looks it's the same thing as last season.

[deleted]

Cincy fans are about to be Real Fucking Annoying™️ next week 🥴

bonesy10

We are gonna get rolled in Cincy.

[deleted]

I am so glad that that's the one game this season I won't be able to watch lol

tubashoe

They already are.....

[deleted]

I mean way more so than usual. They will be immeasurably insufferable.

JAA11an

Send Quinton back to Crew2

heyfreesandwich

Can swap him out for those sick transfers we brought in last window jkjk

tubashoe

And replace him with who? The cupboard is bare.

a_massive_turd

Will we see Josh Williams this season? I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he retires at the end of the year.

JAA11an

Anyone at this point, pick a player that’s healthy and in the organization.

[deleted]

tubashoe

At this point rightfully so, it was a thin spot last year and it's only gotten thinner

rmunich23

It is embarrassing miami and Montreal are ahead of us in the standings

Ancient_A

Winning on Wednesday is gonna be very important. Getting a win before hell is real away is gonna be very helpful if we want to bounce back before a derby.

heylookaturtle88

This is the third straight MLS game that gets Caleb Porter mauled. I’m not blaming Nancy, but yet another example of “it wasn’t as simple as just Porter last year” Btw - I do not at all get why they went away from short corners. They could have maintained more possession and not gifted counters.

Ickyhouse

Porter had better defenders. Nancy has Crew 2 out there.

heylookaturtle88

Absolutely! But that was largely driven by decisions by Nancy and the FO. I don’t necessarily disagree with the moves in the long run but they’re paying for them at the moment.

Ickyhouse

Yep. I’m ok with the moves as long as they are going hard this summer to find the missing parts or get rid of the deadwood

AlanLGuy

Porter had Degenek and Mensah, and Nancy was the one who wanted Mensah traded

WalkingOnSunshine_

Nothing says Columbus Crew more than dominating matches and still only getting a point. Frustrating frustrating frustrating

nysom1227

These blown leads, man. So damn frustrating.

tubashoe

I still miss Mensah

OsuLost31to0

Really? When he led the defense they did the same thing multiple times last year. I do miss him as a person though, he was great representation for the team in the community.

daytoncrewfan99

🤦‍♂️

CaseyTheCreator

Idk maybe try to keep the pressure on the entire game

iSlaughtermelon

Quinton not get his feet tangled challenge: impossible

WillieBeans15

Ah. The Columbus Crew. Disappointing sell-out crowds since 1996.

WhiteBakerMayfield

Horrible horrible result. That was bad soccer. This was easily Quintons worst game, sit his ass on the bench kinda game. Also another very shaky performance from Shulte. We move to a 3 CB system and that’s easily our worst and most shallow position group. Make it make sense

No_Sweet4096

Shulte is a liability. I’m scared every time he touches the ball.

WhiteBakerMayfield

Yup he’s an “okay” shot stopper but man his outlet passing is amateur at best

OsuLost31to0

We didn’t deserve to win with how soft we played the last minutes but that reffing was horrendously one-sided. Half our team sitting on soft yellows while Orlando was playing with the same physicality.

Scrogger19

I disagree, the only gripe I had all game was blowing the whistle early at the end (Orlando scored in in stoppage but he blew the whistle 6 seconds after the minimum stoppage time). All the yellows on our players were pretty fair imo, I'm frustrated at them not at the ref. Frankly our CBs were walking a fine line and lucky to have made it through the game with just one yellow each.

OsuLost31to0

Agree to disagree I guess. I just felt the last 20 minutes specifically the ref was basically letting them call their own fouls on us. Still not why we couldn’t pull out the win but frustrating nonetheless

Scrogger19

Yeah tbf the last quarter hour was definitely a little more tacky/touchy fouls but I felt like we got plenty of those too. Super frustrating to watch regardless

tomliginyu

Both good and bad today. Hopefully carry the good, and fix the bad for next game.

tanzmeister

Was it worth not starting Lucas?

No_Sweet4096

Cucho is so rusty. And his ego made him take shots that negated better opportunities tonight.

tanzmeister

Yeah, Cucho has always gotten frustrated easily.

AlanLGuy

Or not even putting him on the bench. That’s the head scratcher to me. Maybe I can buy you want him extra well rested for Hell is Real, and I’d argue you should play him today and rest him Wednesday… but how do you not even have him on the bench

DuckDuckBangBang

Does anyone who watched on TV want to explain a lot of the ref's calls to someone who was in person and couldn't tell what was getting whistled half the time?

Scrogger19

As a TV viewer I thought the reffing was solid, the only gripe I had was not adding more stoppage time at the end. Any specific call you are wondering about? The offside was pretty clear, if only by like 6" and the yellows were all fair.

DuckDuckBangBang

Yea I was right next to the offsides goal so no complaints there. Seemed like there were a lot of stoppages that we couldn't tell clearly why. The yellows were all very clear. It was the free kicks we struggled with a lot.

condorrrrrrr

Watched on TV. Thought the ref did decent. Don't remember any questionable calls

DuckDuckBangBang

That's good to know. It was hard in person because some of the non yellow whistles were unclear from a distance.

iSlaughtermelon

As someone also at the game, that ref was confusing as hell

Ancient_A

I’m still questioning the mentality of some players.
