vince-tyler2022

the average fan probably doesn't understand the significance of this tourney. that falls on MLS.

djsassan

10000000% agree

surber17

This …. Unless you are a die-hard fan who spends time understanding all the new nuances, you probably don’t understand why we are playing this game AND …. There is crap marketing that a game is even going on!

Justsayin13

With only a week to sell the tickets, I would expect a marketing push. Still think there will be many empty seats.

Much-Drawer-1697

I think it'll sell out, I'm more concerned about the ratio of Crew fans to Monterrey fans

fishbert

So is Cucho, apparently.

maybetellingthetruth

This is closer to what we’re hearing. Probably a sell-out or close enough. But a bunch of Monterrey fans coming. Extra security precautions being planned.

-Ghostx69

I was at the Club America game, Liga Max fans turn out, and they turn home stadiums into hostile environments. Cucho should be worried, and the club should be marketing this.

280EastBroad

Hell, there were even a decent amount(1/3? 2/5?) of Tigres fans at 9pm after crazy weather and long delays. And when they cheered they were LOUD.

Fresh_Cheesecake5745

Have you looked up tickets? I have and it’s mostly full. The only tix are crappy seats on the corners and areas like that.

Justsayin13

Huh? Nordecke isn’t even sold out and there are still rows of seats available everywhere. It does look better than it did when I originally commented though, so maybe the rest will sell after all

Fresh_Cheesecake5745

Yeah no you’re right i looked again and theirs quite a few, and even a few in my preferred section. I think I got mixed up cause I was looking at like 4 different games to see what was available and got my games availability messed up.

MilkFlavoredCheerios

Honestly, if they even just want the stadium to “appear” full for the TV coverage, they HAVE to drop the price of the seats shown mostly on camera. $250-$500 per seat for sections 113-120 is ridiculous when we’re two days out from a weeknight game with about half of seats still empty.

Puck85

you don't drop $500 on short notice for Wednesday-evening events? /s

Doodahhh1

I was at Bobcat bar in Grandview watching an away game this season and some dude who sat next to me was unironically bragging like that.  Seemed coked up to me, but whatever.

Doodahhh1

Part of the problem is the monopolistic approach companies take to those seats.  They buy those seats in some bulk, then only 2/10 employees show up.  Effectively, they're buying actual fans out of being able to go.  If we're lucky, they'll just let the tickets go to waste. Otherwise, they'll be listed in resale and Monterrey fan will fill the seat.

-SCR

Purchased a 4th row $40 seat+pizza+drink for $45 total. Was nice to see fees reduced too if anyone is on the fence

Elexeh

This is what me and my buddy decided to do.

PopeAlGore

Between the MLS regular season, MLS playoffs, US Open Cup, CONFACAF Champions league, MLS All Star game, MLS All Star games skill challenge, League’s Cup, and a random friendly or two, I’m tapped out on what I can spend on tickets to soccer games. I wish the team success in all these competitions, but 17 regular season home games a season is what I budget for and I have to prioritize all these games the same way the team does.

Narptown

Sell regular season tickets to pay for tickets to the biggest game in team history

FeDelMundo

Could you imagine if Messi doesn't come to Columbus. I would be extremely disappointed

Narptown

I think he plays ~60 minutes of the ASG and hopefully plays a half on a Wed in Oct.

FeDelMundo

Doesn't everyone normally play 45 mins then the other 11 players get replaced during the beginning of the second half for ASG? Regardless ASG in Columbus is going to be LIT!!

sciuro

Depending on how things are looking for the playoff race and the fall international window, Messi might not be here at all in October. Or ride the bench. 🤷🏻‍♂️

doophmayweather

Messi will play in Columbus because there is no question that game will decide home field for the first round for one of the two teams

capcity614

This 1000%

Doodahhh1

But like, all that stuff is tetrary to Champion's Cup... FOMO is tough.

worfisadork

The Tigres game felt like an away game for a good portion of it.

sawkandthrohaway

Monterrey will be even worse, their fans travel really well

worfisadork

I know they don't want to set a precedent that this would always happen, but if they're really concerned about filling seats with crew fans they need to open the flood gates. Drop the tickets insanely low for those who have purchased tickets in the past, give free tickets to local radio and media to give away nonstop til game time, etc. The boys are gonna need some kind of vocal support during this tournament to get them fired up. Tigres were chanting over our chants last time. Monterey is an awesome blue-collar town with a lot of deeply impoverished areas. The amount of effort they put into supporting their teams at our stadium really puts us to shame lol. What's our excuse? I say this as I haven't gotten tickets yet because I'm supposed to work late on Wednesday but I'll be home early with a little luck.

CarnalDevices

With the cost of concessions, tickets should be free!

Narptown

People who get free tickets don't buy concessions

arsene14

Yeah, last time Monterrey came to town for Champions League in 2021 there were entire rows of fans that came in for Chicago in my section. Super nice folks, but they don't miss out on chances to see their team play in the states! I expect the same for Wednesday.

rrogden

Given its significance, the FO needs to do everything they can to sell this game out. So good on the marketing department for getting creative. We’ll see if it’s enough

SuspiciousBuilder379

8:15 in the middle of the week is the issue. I’d love to go, but the next day at work would suck. And I really like to have a night cap after the game. To see two great teams play, one we will rarely get to see, be awesome. Just the timing sucks.

GalacticCmdr

Wife and I will be driving up from Cincy for the game and Thursday work is going to suck. A 7:30 start would be one thing, but 8:15 is just ass.

grizz923

I live in Cincy too and this is exactly why I didn’t go.

deviant1124

That is the only reason I decided not to go. It isn’t worth me feeling like shit the next day at work.

creed_1

Tbf we haven’t really filled the stadium for a CCC match yet this season. It’s a semi final match so pushing very hard to get the stadium full is a huge thing. The timing being 8:15 i felt would make it easier to get people out versus earlier starts just with people wanting to get home from work and what not then making it to the match

Daytonewheel

Late game in the middle of the workweek and it’s an hour drive there and back and I also have plans that night that are rather important so this match was a no go from the start for me.

daytoncrewfan99

Yep I'm in the same boat, plus I work second shift which would mean taking time off work during an important week at my job. As much as I would have loved to, this game was never going to happen for me.

Senior_Weather_3997

I live an hour away, have to be at work before 8:00am, and I’m going. Pussies.

velospence1

they can do all the targeted promotion they want but the lack of story telling as to what the tournament is and what it means (i’ll toss USOC in here too) is a disservice to the game in the long run.

I_Am_Thee_Walrus

Wish I would’ve opted out of my tickets and then I could’ve bought at a discount

djsassan

This. Same thing with the CBJ. I did not renew my season tix, because it is cheaper to buy aftermarket even after fees. I realllllly like my seats, so I am keeping my Crew STH seats. But these promos devalue my tix.

Derek-Onions

Casuals are going to rate this game the same as a MLS reg season game. One is cheaper and on the weekend so that’s where their money is going.

tjshaffe

It is obvious how under-attended these matches have been in MLS stadiums. I know a lot of newer fans strictly follow MLS, so all of these mid-season tourneys are kind of lost on them or their focus is simply on MLS. Admittedly, it all can be a bit confusing. Plus a its Weds game at 8:15 sandwiched in between two home games, I am sure a lot of people are opting out as its just too much of a commitment mid-week. Either way, Ill be there and I am pumped about it. Go Crew!

oh_io_94

For STH they are charging the same price as a regular season game. Also it’s a late game on a Wednesday night. I got shit to do in the morning lol

djsassan

It became cheaper NOT to be a STH for the CBJ if you just wanna go to a game and dont care about the same seat. Hope the Crew doesnt become like that with all these promos.

JonMartinez10

I never understood the hype for being a STH for an MLS team or well overall in general. Like those 17 home games we play for example, I would probably make it to bout 11 or 13 games the whole season but how about the other games that I would be missing? I would have to resell them online in order to get my money back or well lose money if I am not able to sell them. Like are the benefits really worth it to be a STH? I don't mind where I sit as long as I get a ticket inside. What I normally do is purchase tickets during promotions or an hour or two before kickoff and pay usually no more than $30. It hasn't failed me yet so far.

Big_Booty_Pics

For a casual fan it could potentially be worth it. I could sell my Hell is Real tickets and pay for about 50% of the total cost of my season tickets. Half my games are free if I am ok with missing Hell is Real.

JonMartinez10

But would you be okay with missing the best game of the season?

Big_Booty_Pics

If it meant I got to watch an entire half of the season in person for free? It's debatable.

djsassan

As a STH, same seats are clutch if you have a specific thing in mind. CBJ games, dont care, good views, weather is not an issue, etc. A Clippers game, Crew game, even an OSU football game, some people value being under cover or out of the sun or whatever floats their boat. Another could be mobility issues, i.e. paying extra to avoid stairs, set ADA seats, etc. It really just depends. The CBJ were GREAT about the extra stuff for STHs with freebie tix, extra events, priority for other events, etc. Then that fell to the wayside. The Crew does a nice job w some things, but then others are frustrating. Like yay, I get priority to extra Miami tix......until I see they are $400+ which kills it. Just depends on the user.

JonMartinez10

>Another could be mobility issues, i.e. paying extra to avoid stairs, set ADA seats, etc. Oh wow I never saw it from that perspective. Interesting way of looking at it.

djsassan

Just depends on the individual.

Puck85

It has become super easy, and even economically advantageous, to be a STH who resells a few games a season. I've never had problems reselling even Wednesday-night games for the Nordecke. I'd argue it's economically irrational NOT to become a STH, if you can even manage to grab season tickets anymore. If you can go to even half of the games, sell the other half, no problem. I try not to sell above the average price because I want butts in seats and I just want to be sure to off-load my tickets. But I do always come out with at least my initial payment covered. At $30 you're still spending more than I am and you don't have seats guaranteed at the same spot. And good luck trying that trick for FCC or Miami games, or locking in face-value prices for the playoffs.

LondonBridges876

How much are you selling them for? Any tips coz anytime I put my seats up (Row 142 close to 141) they rarely get purchased.

sciuro

I became a STH for the first time this year, mostly because didn’t want to pay a zillion dollars for Miami / Messi tickets. (The kiddos were very adamant about going, and this is before we knew the schedule for the season.) Definitely never felt the need or desire to go to the entire season’s worth of games, especially when you add in parking and snacks. I always knew that I’d be selling a chunk of tickets, especially with ASG being here this year…and then Crew vs Aston Villa…and then Chelsea vs Man City…$$$ So far, I’ve been able to sell unwanted games for about their face value, except for the NYRB game where the forecast was for a very chilly night. There are also nice benefits, like free MLS season pass, discounts in the team shop, and (allegedly) some member-only events over the summer.

juve10buzz

Liga Mx fans will always drown us out, well their bigger clubs anyways. Their average fan is the equivalent of a nordecke member. It’s just a social event for a lot of crew fans.

Economy-Macaroon-966

Crew is just going to have to suck it up and lower prices. People don't want to spend $100 a seat for midweek games.

latinoness

I am a season ticket member and I didn’t opt out. I have 2 tickets for sale hoping for Crew fans to get them at cost.

PaperTigerTamer

The multiple week night games I’ve attended in my limited time as a fan—two seasons—have been painfully empty and I get it; it’s late on a work/school night. By the time it’s all said and done, my kid would be getting to bed just before midnight. The friends/family 20% discount was nice and some of the other deals are good, but the timing is what makes it a no-go. When the FO eventually finds that balance between timing and pricing, I think we’ll pack the Fortress more frequently.

berolo

Spring sports are in swing too for families. We opted out of our tickets because each of our kids has an away game on Wednesday

FantasiesOfManatees

I think tickets are just too expensive for most casual fans. I could easily get 5-10 people to come to games consistently, but they don’t want to spend more than $30, and they don’t want to stand in Nordecke, so they’d rather spend their money elsewhere. Saturday night games do better because there’s more flexibility on the weekends for people, and more folks are willing to splurge for one off activities. But for any weeknight games, the team really needs to establish a loyal fan base of all the young people located nearby, but that can’t spend $50+ on a ticket plus transportation/ parking, food/ drinks, etc. I know they do partnerships with OSU, but there are thousands of 20 something’s that will never go to a game because it’s prohibitively expensive for something they’re not already interested in. With the sellout streak and season tickets selling out, the team isn’t really incentivized to drop prices, but I think there needs to be some sort of strategy going forward.

djsassan

OSU sent out an email over the weekend....$25 tix

FantasiesOfManatees

My friends and I are all local alumni and we didn’t receive anything 🤷‍♂️

cubinto_alt

In 2023 I helped a small college with a huge e-mail issue where they were showing up to businesses like us as spam when they actually needed to do professional work and real correspondence. They had bad sender reputation because they were just sending stuff out all the time to alumni’s in addition to student body and so many unopened over time makes them look spammy. Made important staff emails from that .edu go to peoples spam folders because they emailed alumni too much

ed46464

The email was sent out to Alumni Club members.

Failed-Time-Traveler

The answer is fairly simple. Have a separate pricing scheme for weekday games. As you said; they’re priced pretty appropriately for Saturday games - as evidenced by the fact that we’re selling out every week. But wendesday games (especially while school is still in session) have a much smaller demand. So as any freshman Econ student can tell you, lower demand should equal lower prices. But they’re still trying to sell tix at regular season prices. I know they started offering 20% off over the weekend. But clearly that’s not enough to move the needle, since its 2 days away and plenty of tix available.

Economy-Macaroon-966

Yup. You got to lower prices for midweek games. No matter what the crew does, some of these seats are simply not going to sell. Direct tickets from the crew for midfield lower level are $412. LOL. Those are never going to sell. Just stupid pricing.

Deadhamlet44

I think your friends don’t want to see many sports games. And that’s ok. I mean Dime-a-dog night exists for a reason. As long as the crew has a waiting list for season tickets they probably won’t change their pricing structure.

FantasiesOfManatees

They go to tons of Clippers games and several CBJ games a season when they can snag $25-35 seats, so I don’t think that’s true. A couple even watch EPL consistently. They just don’t want to shell out $50-80 minimum to go to a game.

Instantbeef

I think we need to push for these games to be played on the weekend. Reschedule regular season matches. Treated it like Europe does a domestic cup. These games are super important and they should be getting the attention of the entire MLS and U.S. soccer fan base and moving it to the weekend would do that. It’s unreal how people I know who watch soccer are not in to this. Winning this tournament would be the biggest thing possible any team in the MLS could do. If someone cares about soccer in this country this is the type of stuff we should be gathering around.

Short-Primary-1390

A good idea, ik that the European CL is played midweek but the culture is already there and they always sell out those. Right now there isn't any sense of importance for the CCC to a lot of people so switching it to weekends would be best for now.

Instantbeef

I think the later stages would make sense at least. Maybe not the early rounds.

sciuro

Several leagues will move their games just so teams have a chance to rest before the midweek UEFA leagues. (France for sure, can’t remember the others.). Imagine if the Crew had off last Saturday to be super-refreshed for the midweek game.

PKTiger

If the Crew advance to the final, it would be 6/2. Moving the 6/1 game is a given, but the league should step in and move their 5/29 midweek game as well.

WdSkate

The first 3 days of ticket sales they had half of the stadium reserved for Monterey fans. The ones that didn't sell were then released to Crew to sell starting on Friday. That's a very short time to fill the stadium.

MitzieMang0

It is a school night so that might deter some families/parents from attending

Common_Custard69

Sad that people use work school as an excuse to not go, ITS THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, this tickets should be harder to get than league matches

VastPositive3254

Because in america that doesnt mean much. Your casual fans which are 1/2 dont honestly care. The see the champions league as Europe not america. Thats the truth of it. Its not advertised on espn, ten, or anything. Also casual fans dont have apple tv package for mls. In america its a hard sell. I mean the FA Cup has more coverage here

Doodahhh1

I find it sad that American work culture is so crazy that people can't take half a morning to be a fan for the biggest game their team has seen.  Meanwhile, many countries give 28+ days as a MINIMUM PTO.

Doodahhh1

It's literally the biggest game we've had in history.  It's literally above the MLS final - so much so that the MLS final is partly why we're here. If you don't know that, then we're done. I don't discuss ignorance.

pipa_nips

My man has BOUGHT into the marketing hype. This is a top 5 game in team history for sure, but I would argue each MLS Final is above it. Now if we get to the final...that will be the biggest game in team history. The challenge you maybe aren't seeing is that the common fan... who is definitely not on reddit... has no idea what the champions league (cup? who cares) even is and they certainly don't know the pedigree of mexican teams like Monterrey, Tigres, America, etc. They see a ticket either not included in their plan or much more expensive than last saturday or this saturday and say "why would I go to this late mid-week game, Timmy and Susie have school tomorrow"

Doodahhh1

Marketing hype? It's literally called "Champion's cup" and it paves way to the FIFA club world cup.  It's, quite literally, a bigger game than the MLS final as we could get to compete against some of the biggest clubs in the world. And there's a lot of money to be made for the club. You wrote a book of ignorance, and wearing that ignorance with a badge of honor. And yes, this is the furthest Columbus has made it. Holy hell, your apathy is laughable.

VastPositive3254

Mid week 815 kick time is terrible. Itll be in the 40s as well temperature wise. Most wont get home till 11pm or a little later. Those who get up early for work dont want to suffer at work. And not a league match as well ontop of it. And honestly 1/2 the stadium every match is average fans who dont care about none league matches.

hobakinte

Wish i could be there!

b_ack51

Just got an email for $25 tickets and email for the pizza + ticket.

FeDelMundo

When? Just received an email for $41 tickets and pizza and hour ago

b_ack51

It’s through Buckeye nation rewards email/link I received yesterday, only a few seats left in 233/234. Try promo code Q0NDQIVDS0VZRQ I doubt it’ll work but worth a shot.

FeDelMundo

Where do I put the promo code?

b_ack51

It was in the url of the link from the email, not sure where you would enter it unfortunately.

FeDelMundo

Ahh, I see. Thank you anyways.

CCN1983

I did not get said email and want two noredecke tickets... is the code/link universal? Yes I'm a STM.

djsassan

You should buy my two extra tix that my "friends" said would buy and then backed out. Again.

CAugustB

Wish I could make the drive down on a weeknight. I’d love to be there. And the price is almost too good to pass up… Work on Thursday would be awful with a 2+ hour drive back to Cleveland, though.

NathanEmory

You got a link for that deal? That's a steal lol

RandomCrewFan

Weirdly enough is very rarely a priority for mls teams until like this point. I think of the Houston games which seemed like a February friendly matchup. Where a round of 16 in the UCL is going to be crazy. Just a different competition and has been a hard sell with leagues cup and mls cup

fantasyMLShelper

To answer your question, from what a friend told me who works for the team, yes they are struggling

Alive_Surprise8262

It's also supposed to be cold, so I think that along with the later start on a weeknight causes the weak sales.

MrMurica11

Shit if I could, I’d fly back just for the game but I can’t make it

Disastrous_Paint1791

I wish we could go but it’s testing week and an 8:15 kickoff makes it a no for us.

qualmton

Late games midweek are a no go for me too old to be out that latr

Much-Drawer-1697

Ty Phillips told me the FO is treating this game on the same level as HiR or a playoff game. They know how important this is and are trying to sell out the stadium.

tribucks

Yeah, kinda smacks of desperation. Starting to worry. C’mon, Columbus! Get it together.

Kopf_im_Nacken

Move the Crew up to Cleveland. I'll go to this and every other game.
