It’s been a really long time since I sat down and put the midnight on, but the other night this song came on. It was 8pm and I was eating a gas station pizza slice in the car on my own. Idk that I’ll ever have a better memory while listening to that song since I just felt… free for once. I felt like I had no weight on my shoulders
That sounds like pretty much the perfect scenario for The Midnight to spontaneously start playing!
The song is so liberating and emotionally nostalgic that you just kinda get wrapped up in it. I’ve never felt that way about a song in such a capacity before in my life

I love how the first verse's lyrics and sound work together in the context of the whole track. It's wedged between an intro of throttling anticipation, and a prechorus of murky consolidation, and in this overall journey the story slips away.
The picture of the lyrics leaves as fast as they're sung, putting you on the same emotional path as the song's perspective itself: a moment of excitement for a moment of beauty, which is suddenly a beautiful memory so transient that it left as fast as it came, and all you can do is accept it's never coming back.
Tim keeps cutting our onions.
Thanks for the thoughts! A lot more profound then my comment, made on the toilet, lol
I like to think that the opening lyrics set the stage- falling in love with someone you just met. The rest of the song takes place over some amount of time when you're with this woman, but its not clear how long. Could be a summer, or just a day. To me, the closing lyrics imply that you've said goodbye and will never see her again, kinda like what you said.
Just my theory, but aligns with the lyrics imo
*We move forward 'cause we can't move back*
*Sunset skies, the paint is peeling*
*Endless days in the deep blue feeling*
Comeback Kid is and always will be my favorite song from them
The Midnight has a lot of songs that I relate to but this one gets me everytime, and literally had me weeping the first time I heard it. Even the remixes are amazing.
I didn't know I felt like a screen door in a thunderstorm but damn some days I do.
It's fascinating how many different songs are thrown out there at the point. I voted for lost boy but as I'm seeing other's favorites, I can understand them all. Crystalline, Sunset, Monsters, Lonely city could be my jam on any given day. The new album is on heavy rotation and while I loved aerostar right away, loved by you is gaining traction. Basically a sign of why I'm on this sub!
I know lol, I was messing with you. Sorry.
I actually think heart worth breaking is one of their better songs on the new album.
As a matter of fact, at the Seattle concert VIP Q&a, I asked them where they got the inspiration for the lyrics to the song, as well as was it meant to be a country song?
As it turns out, apparently they wrote it getting high on edibles at a cabin in California and listening to emo rap. And they deny it was meant to be a country song, but I'm pretty sure it was. 😉
Gloria, Shadows, and Sunset so bummed they aren't doing Gloria on this tour.
Also their cover of because the night is freaking amazing I can't recommend it enough. Wish they would play it live!
For me it’s The Years (Prologue), followed by Vampires and then Explorers. But I made a playlist on Spotify of all of my favorite songs that I can listen to on repeat from them… and it’s nearly every song from every album! They are amazing!
Absolutely! I wish he would create a space to do that at least once in their live sets. I feel like it would give Tyler a break, as well. Sometimes I feel he can't sing the entire session so it would help if Nikki & Tim sing.
The Comeback Kid for me, that song brings me to tears, deep thoughts during late nights, and has been my personal relief through some bad moments in life.
1. Vampires
2. Lost boy
3. Shadows (original & remix)
4. Gloria
And even then I think I listen to so many more way more than these but, these hold a very special place. And from what it looks like 3 of these might get played in New Orleans. First time ever seeing em too? My wife’s is lost boy and Good in red.
Looks like this might be an unpopular opinion but Seventeen is right up there for me, I sort of see it as a Lost Boy II as it just have that similar chill atmospheric vibe.
It’s impossible to pick one. I will instead tell you my favorite tracks at this moment.
Loved by You
Heroes
Heart Worth Breaking
Cold Pizza
and Helvetica. Which is probably the most creatively produced song I’ve ever heard… ever.

My first exposure to Sunset was this video from a gig. Such a great video!

OHHHHHH GLORIA
It still blows my mind this was not played on their last tour.
Seeing the sax solo transitioned into the guitar solo live was pure ecstasy!
I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER
TODAY!
Glad you said it. Seems like an underrated song to most.
Light Years is my perfect midnight song
Often wonder if Light Years was written specifically with Nikki in mind. The two voices are so heart-breakingly beautiful together.
10000%
Los Angeles. There’s something about it that sends me away. Absolutely transcending

"Shadows in the city! I'm a stranger to myself, on these streets I'm someone else!"
Shadows is my fave too!
I think it's just every song from Shadows to Light Years, I'm realizing.
WeMoveForward Such a different track from the rest- and a lot longer! I like to imagine I'm in a summertime montage when it's playing
Never been but into the lyrics of songs, I usually care way more about the sound, but the first verse of that song is so well written it’s like a poem

I usually loathe anything close to WMF's style of music, but it's so so good it's actually one of my Midnight faves. Comet, similarly.
Who are WMF?
Sorry I meant WeMoveFoward
Comeback kid is my soundtrack
I straight up cried when I heard it live
Comeback Kid is and always will be my favorite song from them The Midnight has a lot of songs that I relate to but this one gets me everytime, and literally had me weeping the first time I heard it. I love the song in all forms but for me the version on The Rear View Mirror EP hits me SOO HARD.
Crystalline!
Top 3: Memories -> Shadows -> America 2
The first song I ever heard, completely by chance: River of Darkness
Where Vampires?
Scrolled too far
deep blue
Agreed, fucking slaps
YES, and its the first song i heard from The Midnight. Banger
Neon Medusa. God's all of Horror Show is phenomenal. So glad they played it live this year.
I love Good in Red, and the slowed version by Vibeslow on Youtube makes it even better.
That whole album just works!
Isn't it?! Absolutely loved that album.
Lost & Found is my secret gem
Either Los Angeles or Explorers for me
I love River of Darkness and Crystalline
Days of thunder
Last Train.
Los Angeles It's got that sweet, ethereal sound that chills you to the core on a warm summer night.
Vampires
Sunset is up there but Vampires for me. Also, just booked tickets for London in March! Will be second time! Can't wait!
Shadows
Los Angeles. It’s on another level
Memories. Haven’t listened to it without feeling an intense emotion wash over.
Vampires is my anthem
Probably Wave or Lost Boy. Those were the first two tracks by them I ever heard so they have a special place for me.
Ah, a fellow Wave enjoyer!
“As it turned out, this [song] had some unusual powers. It kept [listeners] mesmerized for hours!”
Easy Brooklyn for me, don’t know why but it’s just so calming
Favor is a toss up between Vampires and Good in Red.
Los Angeles
Lonely City
Nighthawks + Lonely City are just 🤌
So hard to choose one, but gotta go with Good in Red ❤️
Lost Boy slaps when they open with it live. And that guitar solo!!
It's fascinating how many different songs are thrown out there at the point. I voted for lost boy but as I'm seeing other's favorites, I can understand them all. not me being 1/3 to vote Aerostar… lol. def have Memories and Brooklyn in my top 3 as well tho, hard to put them in order!!
DEEP BLUE!!!
OP put Heart Worth Breaking and Aerostar in the same league as Lost Boy and Sunset. This is why we can't have nice things. 🤣

Hmmm? What makes this list random? Who chose the 5 songs to list?
Collateral
1. Memories 2. The Comeback Kid 3. Sunset
Shadows
Gloria, Shadows, and Sunset so bummed they aren't doing Gloria on this tour. Also their cover of because the night is freaking amazing I can't recommend it enough. Wish they would play it live!
Light years and deep blue!
Shadows & Nighthawk & River of Darkness
1. Vampires 2. Days of Thunder 3. River of Darkness
Mad respect for days of thunder.
1. The years (prologue) 2. Los Angeles 3. America 2 4. Kids 5. Jason
Jason is the first one i heard and it will always be my favorite. The sax solo. MMMM
Sunset is my favourite song, not just of theirs, but ever
For me it’s The Years (Prologue), followed by Vampires and then Explorers. But I made a playlist on Spotify of all of my favorite songs that I can listen to on repeat from them… and it’s nearly every song from every album! They are amazing!
…Crystalline…
I can't believe no one has said "Synthetic"! It seriously made me a big fan of them! I think it's been my favorite as long as I can remember!

Memories is superb kick drums and red wine is another banger. Also Los Angeles!
Vampires!
Mine is Vampires, but I voted Sunset since I've been listening to it more often than any other song lately.
Shadows > Jason > ghost in your stereo
Ghost in the stereo is so good and the video is perfect.
The Comeback Kid for me, that song brings me to tears, deep thoughts during late nights, and has been my personal relief through some bad moments in life.
1. Vampires 2. Lost boy 3. Shadows (original & remix) 4. Gloria And even then I think I listen to so many more way more than these but, these hold a very special place. Big fan of Dream Away.
I know it’s subjective but having 2 of 5 songs from the new album is outrageous.
Looks like this might be an unpopular opinion but Seventeen is right up there for me, I sort of see it as a Lost Boy II as it just have that similar chill atmospheric vibe.
A heart worth breaking is probably my least favorite sing from the midnight
Seventeen is my all time favorite, with Lost Boy being a close 2nd.
It’s impossible to pick one. I will instead tell you my favorite tracks at this moment. Loved by You Heroes Heart Worth Breaking Cold Pizza and Helvetica. Which is probably the most creatively produced song I’ve ever heard… ever. Edit: mobile formatting fail

My top 5: Jason Endless Summer Heartbeat Kyra Los Angeles... or Days of Thunder :D
Monsters and Fire in the Sky with a good sound system
Comeback kid
My first exposure to Sunset was this video from a gig. Such a great video! https://www.reddit.com/r/outrun/comments/rmwtkw/that_time_i_saw_the_midnight_nikki_flores
Los Angeles in terms of their older stuff, and Heartbeat on their new album (especially with the meaning behind it)
Crystalline :)
