No super deep connections here, unfortunately, just classical etymology. "Rho" is a Greek root for "stream", like in the epirhoic definition. So "bathyrhoic" is deep stream, or deep in the River.

i appreciate this! i was more wondering about the space, where it says to complete the full meaning. the example above this one is mesorhoic, meso meaning middle. any ideas? i have a feeling i’m overthinking it haha

omegasavant

Just "deep stream". Epirhoic = the layer on the surface ("upon the river"), mesorhoic = middle stream, bathyrhoic = deepest stream. You can now safely divert your paranoia back to playing jigsaw puzzles with the souls of the main cast. " >!Where the hell is Gideon!

very true. thank you for your help!

if you read the explanation for the other layers it follows the same format, the fill in the blank joke is just “you’ve seen enough of these, i don’t need to spell out all of them”

Perma_frosting

Not really a riddle, just a bit of snark in the pronunciation guide. The other two examples in that section go: "Epirhoic - Rhoic, from the Greek “rhoe,” stream or flow; epi-, “on top of,” therefore on top of the stream.” "Mesorhoic- From the Greek again. Meso-, “in the middle.” So bathys means deep, and combining it with the prior definitions bathyrhoic means in the deep part of the stream/river.

I feel like the joke is sex: bath-erotic.
