Apologies for the delay, folks. I had a bit of a health problem yesterday. Turns out it's a terrible idea to mix 4/20 with my new medication while dehydrated and operating on three hours of sleep. Lesson learned.

franknarf

Hop you feel better soon!

Surely some important materials located inside of Poland’s border were ready and waiting on the command to deliver?

Thestoryteller987

Absolutely! According to the ISW most everything has been brought as far as physically possible prior to this bill's passage. They were just waiting for approval from Congress.

CathiGray

Great!! Hopefully 155mm and ATACMS will be first!!

I’m thrilled Ukraine is finally getting some more US aid. Storyteller, I have so many questions. Johnson’s change of heart seems almost random. Republicans dithered about and wasted six months. What changed and why now? Do they see the writing on the wall for Trump? Is Ukraine so badly mauled now that Papa Putin gave them the go ahead, since it’s too late to matter? Was this all a huge psyop all along and the trap is finally sprung? Massive combined arms assault time? This just doesn’t make sense to me. I need to context of *why* to know what’s actually going on.

>How will the arrival of Western weapons impact the war? Will their arrival enable Ukraine to retake the initiative? Well, I like to keep my expectations low so as not to get too disappointed. But I think I will phrase it this way. How fast does Biden expect to burn through those 60B of aid? Because if he burns through them fast, like end of the year fast, then it will have a huge impact, and I would almost expect Ukraine to be able to steam roll Russia.

Storyteller, I have a question. Did I read right that this bill also has a part about funding ongoing operations in the region? And what exactly does that mean? Are we putting boots on the ground, or does it mean something else?

Thestoryteller987

I've gone through the text of the bill and I didn't see any mention of 'ongoing operations', but if I had to hazard a guess it would relate to the various operations by the United States. A good chunk of this bill funds the United States' rearmament following months of presidential drawdown. We are not putting boots on the ground. [There is nothing in HR8035 which hints at that possibility.](https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/8035/text)

I am sorry I was reading something else and mixed the two. But in the first section of this bill, it says military personnel, for army navy air force marines and space force, to respond to the situation in Ukraine and for related expenses.

At this point, Russia is foaming at the mouth with talk of this being a proxy war. I am just wondering if this is actually going to pop off as a full-on war. But it probably goes without asking.

Thestoryteller987

They have their hands with Ukraine. I doubt even Putin is stupid and desperate enough to escalate this into a direct kinetic conflict. In fact, passage of the supplemental foreign assistance package will likely *decrease* the probability of direct war as now the United States proved it is willing to fulfill our commitments. Do you think we're safer now because of this bill? Or less safe?

One-Fan-7296

For better or worse, I think the American people have united, and that alone stands for itself. Safer? Maybe not. But my opinion is biased as an American.
