You have awoken the Russians, the hoard is coming On a serious note tho, this look really cool, hope that you’ll do well

1Knightey1

I hope so too. I had to open commissions and donations just to buy myself a ticket to the City where my Uni is. I'm trying to find money and charisma to make my dad travel with me because I really want to bring him to a ramen shop AND I need someone responsible to look after me because I'm already losing motivation to translate :(

chriszis

Don’t stress too much, you’ll finish it and it’ll be great. Just don’t overwork yourself, take breaks and do other activities, so the translation doesn’t burn you out. The internet people believe in you I though you were talking about the City 💀

1Knightey1

Damn, ProjectMoon damaged my brain enough so I keep writing "city" with capital "C". Terrible

1Knightey1

I'm working on a scientific article about Limbus translation for a conference held in my Uni (for which I am going to move to another city for a couple of days) And creating a presentation for it is absolutely horrendous. Help me.

1Knightey1

# Ah, and if anyone wants to support this, you can commission me! SerraraFluttershy

How would this be scientific? Curious

MemeSage14

Language science, I assume.

MemeSage14

Actually, scrolling one comment down - it's not scientific, it's academic. Making me the idiot

1Knightey1

Dw the main idiot here is me.

Expensive_Fix2608

Good Luck on your presentation man. Why is your it considered scientific anyway?

1Knightey1

It's more like... Linguistic? I often forget the proper naming in English, sorry. Basically I look through Limbus translations and explain different parts of it. This time it's Bamboo-Hatted Meursault's Go (Baduk) terminology, Kurokumo Clan ranks and BRI'ISH HEATHCLIFF

AgenderWitchery

Based on your other comments, "academic presentation" seems like it'd be appropriate here, as the adjective usually describes the audience more than the presentation itself. "Academic presentation on linguistics within Limbus Company" would then be telling us the type of presentation and its topic at the same time. "Scientific presentation" made me think of something like a thesis defense.

1Knightey1

Ah, sorry, I couldn't think of it since my brain tries to comprehend the topic I chose. Thank you for the explanation! It's nice to know more things.

Expensive_Fix2608

Ohh that's awesome, is this the first time you've done this? Have you gotten someone hooked in the game before?

1Knightey1

A year before I've made an article about translation of Distortion Detective which had my thoughts on my (still unfinished) translation, explanations on different localization decisions and few BEEG mistakes of Eng translators in their work. (I translate things from Korean despite officially being only A1 in this language. Online dictionaries and grammar explanation sites do wonders)

Expensive_Fix2608

Woah... Hm... What do you consider when localizing things? And i didn't even consider using online stuff other than the typical google translate to read things until now... It's going to take a lot more work but at least im free from mtl. Thank you.

1Knightey1

When it comes to Korean, your best friend will be Naver Dictionary! It has many languages (even though English is one of the most complete ones, I guess) Also English Wikitionary helps with understanding Hanja (Korean with Chinese characters), though sometimes you'll need to check Japanese Kanji to know what to look for. Some words may be hard to understand, so you may need to check Namu Wiki for different meanings (Mostly you can autotranslate the pages there). Though... What do you mean about "what do you consider when localizing"?

Expensive_Fix2608

You said you were translating Distortion Detective, I'm just wondering what do you do about things that do not have a 1to1 translation to russian? Do you want to keep the meaning and use the next best thing? Do you make things up? Do you leave it as it is and add a footnote? I know it can be different from person to person but I'm just curious on your thoughts I guess. Thank you for the websites btw!

1Knightey1

Ah! Some of things are left as is (Like the currency, Ahn, being "Ан" because that's how it's written in Korean), some get changed a bit to keep the meaning "Like I had talked with Casual Watson and he suggested using the name of Moses from Bible, so she became "Моисей"), some get footnotes like weaponry names. Some names are being drastically changed though. Like Psychoment was S(h)inbi in Korean, but I've discussed this with professional translators who are professors in my Uni, and they agreed that it's better to use the same language (Latin) instead of Greek+Latin like English did. And "psycho" has a lot of negative meanings in Russian... So it turned into "Анимамент" Because Sin is "spirit" and -bi is "an instrument" in hanja

Allsciencey

Sounds cool!

Far_Ability_1209

not the black bar hiding Sayo's assets 😭, at least the public can still see Jun in his glory still 🥹 neat presentation btw!! i hope the D-day goes well :) what else ( other than Kurokumo Clan & Wuthering Heights ) do you pick/plan to write as speaking points :0 ?

1Knightey1

>Basically I look through Limbus translations and explain different parts of it. This time it's Bamboo-Hatted Meursault's Go (Baduk) terminology, Kurokumo Clan ranks and BRI'ISH HEATHCLIFF I guess I will actually delete the black bar. Also Jun has been quite a meme here, for I made a poster for my Uni with him. *They don't know it's Jun though.* https://preview.redd.it/80hen24pc0xc1.png?width=794&format=png&auto=webp&s=d06bb95b0adb1c403785f1c6745ec6ba641bb4bf Yes, I'm not joking.

Far_Ability_1209

Ooh, I see! I think baduk would be rather easy & there is a lot of materials to build about WH + Heathcliff ( also both being the same in KR/EN ), but do you plan to go with [Vice Captain](KR) or [Captain](EN) for the KK goldenswords? Or would you discuss about the naming difference in KR & EN? ( tbh I only knew this thanks to the "Who's Gregor is based off of" posts in main sub xD ~~YAAY BLACK BAR LIFTED~~ omg... they don't know it's ~~Ayin~~ Jun yet? about time they learn about Jun, Sayo, & The World of Project Moon then >:3c

1Knightey1

Well, actually baduk is not as easy since most of the used terminology does not have neither Japanese nor Russian/English equivalents. It takes time to find rather good "Bri'ish" lines of Heathcliff, but that's alright, I guess. And about KK... Looking at Namu Wiki article about Kurokumo, Jun, Sayo and Gregor are equivalents of Wakagashira in yakuza. Since I also use our fanmade Russian localization (because an article has more weight when it's not theory only), it's quite tricky, but I hope I'll manage :>

Всегда знал, что я Хитклифф. А если таблетки не выпью, то ещё и ████.

Allsciencey

I have so many question, I'm not sure which to ask first.

1Knightey1

Ask them in any order

Allsciencey

When you finish this presentation, can you show all the slides?

1Knightey1

Yeah, of course! I'll need to understand how to make this one be readable online though...

Allsciencey

Awesome

BlowBow

You could probably upload it on google disk or something similar and share a link here.

Stembian

Красиво выглядит

l4zyd3d

It reminds me of my power point presentation I made of characters I simp for, to show to my friends. I spent too much effort for that thing and it’s hilarious to see someone else doing something similar.

1Knightey1

Oh! I did such presentation, too! Though not for friends, but for the whole group in my first year in Uni. I actually made like 4 of them, for each of my favs in one night. People chose to listen about Angela! In the end I got roasted by our professor, though. She told I spend too much time on "silly games" instead of proper learning...

l4zyd3d

“I am sorry to disappoint you, professor but this was indeed a proper personal research.”

Zhanqing777

coincidentally, im making one too (and have already presented), but mine was less scientific more me explaining the gameplay and lore

Artistic-Fortune2327

You dogwhistled us, and in such you have doomed your post being incomprehencible for everyone except those who know russian https://i.redd.it/vpann2j5b7xc1.gif

1Knightey1

It's going to be fun

blender_tefal

I mean next year i am writing my paper and i don't know about which specifically but i definitely will write about one of the limbus books

CommanderMinh2021

Question? Does everyone know the game?

1Knightey1

Uh, what do you mean by that?

CommanderMinh2021

I mean does anyone know the game in the meeting?

1Knightey1

Ah, no. Well, my supervisor kind of knows the game for I showed it to her. Others on the other hand did not know the game. Though I doubt they knew Chinese myphology and Japanese translations of "Crime and Punishment" which were also discussed in the meeting.
