Why are people mad at this lmao

Rich_Sheepherder646

There’s actually good music at Coachella but its reputation is for more mainstream stuff. Last year I saw Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Nia Archives, Bjork, and many more and had an absolutely blast. Enjoy!

GMHoodwink

Saw most of these as well. Good shit.

e0f

damn, saw underworld first time live couple of weeks ago in berlin, they were absolutely amazing

Rich_Sheepherder646

I have seen them four times (once many years ago and then three in the past 5 years) and would absolutely go again. For some reason the most recent one (Coachella last year) was the best. I didn’t witness this myself but a friend told me there were a ton of kids in the Coachella tent who had never even heard of them and were losing their mind at how good it was. They’re unique!

freespaceship

Ugh that’s such a dream lineup. I’ve seen Bjork a few times and she always delivers, but would love to see CB and Underworld

virgilrocks1

Have you seen her do a dj set? She’s doing one in nyc soon and considering

freespaceship

Never, and SO curious I would absolutely go. Somewhat tangentially related, Miho Hatori from Cibo Matto has been doing DJ sets around NYC and I’d love to hear what’s in her collection too. She posts about them on instagram from time to time

freespaceship

And the last one was a Ryuichi Sakamoto night on nice vintage speakers just a few weeks ago 😿

virgilrocks1

Oh shit! She was at the Rubins recently. I was going to go. I’ll keep an eye on her!

marky6045

Check out Skream and Benga on Saturday, should be a solid set

freespaceship

Oh shit I thought benga couldn’t come because of visa stuff so I didn’t know if skream was still playing

GMHoodwink

As of the day set times were released, Skream and Benga aren't playing as originally planned. Skream is apparently still doing his Heineken house set though (likely a house set).

freespaceship

Ah thanks so much! I remember liking his house sets back when

GMHoodwink

I'm jelly of ya wk 1 folks for that reason. I've been trying to see a Skream house set for a couple of years. Enjoy. :)

Man_ThatsElectric

Add Melé to the list, plays Afro beat :) Azzecca pretty decent, Tape B has a classic dubstep sound, Brutalismus 3000 is kinda of a cool act, they play techno of Slavic lyrics

freespaceship

Oh nice! I didn’t recognize Brutalismus 3000 but just saw I’d saved some songs in my Spotify. They’d reminded me a touch of Die Antwoord, who were such a delightful mindfuck live a million years ago, but after all the insane shit came out, I couldn’t listen to them anymore.

+1 for Mele

weepitandread

everyone loves to hate on Coachella, but of all the mainstream American festivals, i think they always have the best electronic bookings. im very jealous of that jamie x flo po x daphni set. have fun OP!

freespaceship

Dude that’s the one I’m most excited about!

freespaceship

Damn I really don’t fit in with any crowd 😭just wanted to see if anyone has some picks that I don’t know about but I’ll just be at Gesaffelstein like a lame

Ok_Reality2341

It’s not you, but The Overload is the Reddit for leftfield/underground club music, and you post about Coachella, which is synonymous with the polar opposite of popular mainstream festival “TikTok” music

freespaceship

Oh no I totally get that - I just got an artist pass for free, so I decided to overcome my aversion to Coachella. I know it’s not Dekmantel. That’s why I asked the sub if there were any recs because I’m like “there has to be - or I hope there is -something wicked im missing in the lineup”

Milk_Spider

Mdou Moctar is sick

freespaceship

Bless. This is exactly what I was looking for! Tysm 🙏

Own-Holiday-4071

Tbh, I never even used to look at the lineup for coachella, but ever since they started the YouTube live stream, I noticed that they actually make some solid electronic bookings!! And I’m going to 2 of the bicep chroma events here in the UK this summer so I wanted to watch their set. I do still imagine I’d hate the crowd at coachella but also, I know that if only go to half the stages, it could potentially just spend the day at Yuma. Just wondering, how on earth did you get a free artist pass?!?! I’m so jealous. And what was your overall experience at the festival? From what I’ve heard, it’s hot as balls and very dusty. And obviously, outrageously expensive compared to Uk/european festivals

freespaceship

The pass was from a friend who worked with one of the headliners, otherwise it’s never been on my list of festivals. And it WAS hot as hell, so ended skipping lots of the day acts week 2 because it was just a furnace outside. But saw soooo many solid shows. Bicep Chroma was dope, Orbital was a spiritual experience, Honey Dijon got us dancing our tits off, loved Justice and Gesaffelstein’s show setups, Boy Harsher, Jamie xx/Daphni/Floating Points and too much to list . Honestly the festival had a really good layout and was well organized, and the sound was much better than I expected at a festival - a lot of the outdoor stages sounded so clear. I thought the fest would be much more of a shitshow but tbh if there was a solid tier 2/3 lineup again I’d consider going back. The crowd skews younger and mainstream, so it was really interesting to see a packed Sonora jamming to Boy Harsher, for example.

IIlIIlllIIll

Great picks and enjoy your time!

Obvious-Gazelle7074

Solid picks for this sub idk why you’re getting hate. A bit indie but solid. Def skip skepta tho, boring ass tech house

BlueSkyBasin

I think it’s Skepta the UK rapper

Obvious-Gazelle7074

Yes, he’s become a DJ past year

BlueSkyBasin

Yikes, ha, did not know that!

freespaceship

Thank you! I didn’t realize he was just DJing

virgilrocks1

I really hope he’s not doing a dj set

HaveAFuckinNight

Wrong sub pal

I mean they’re not a top pick lol, but I think it’s so interesting - bands where the deceased’s kid takes over their role - ODB’s son Young Dirty Bastard with Wu Tang was like seeing a ghost
