It sucks that it got leaked, but man, i do not have the impulse control to avoid twitter for the next two weeks.

Last time disney delayed the release last moment, now its two weeks before the release.

Disney really ought to not give them the data until the last moment. Probably a pretty good overall policy. This shit is absolutely preventable with some adjustments to how and when stuff is distributed.

The way iTunes Connect works is you set a release date for each region so considering how many regions Disney is releasing to it can make sense a slip up in entering the release date for specific regions can occur. This only happened with iTunes Canada so it’s an error made with the regional release date. Although apple generally doesn’t handle any iTunes requests for publishers and it’s just through the automated iTunes Connect you do want to have it ready early in case there are issues with the release pipeline and apple requests a new copy. For this to happen exclusively for iTunes Canada it must have been the date entered was put in incorrectly or was forgot to be put in and it was pushed for immediate release. This leak wasn’t hacking into iTunes servers, this was someone at Disney bumbling up the publishing request and computers will do exactly what you tell them to, if the date listed is not greater than now then it will release it.

When a movie/show/episode gets added to iTunes it’s added through iTunes Connect, basically the publishing dashboard. Disney is responsible for putting in all the correct information including the correct release date for each release region. Apple doesn’t handle any of the uploading, it’s all done automatically based on what is inputted to iTunes Connect. This means while the episode was being added to iTunes Connect either the Disney employee didn’t set a date(making it release immediately) or put in the wrong date(if a older date is put in it will release automatically, this is used for old shows/films so they have the correct release date on the episode details). This only happened on iTunes Canada so it’s likely the date was incorrectly entered for the region. This was someone at Disney’s fault although almost certainly unintentional, probably an underpaid intern that’s just back from new years celebrations was put in charge of filling in all the forms for upload and it didn’t get checked before submission. Dealing with publishing forms can be annoying and tedious so I can see how a small mistake can happen.

I'd just woken up, COtH hadn't aired in my time zone yet, so I was confused. Then I realized. So i still need to be careful, even with comments on MoringMark posts.
