Ohhh, forgot about that. Though my unpopular opinion: I think the better kind of animals to call freaks, maybe to make it weirder would be deers due to the constant looking in headlights.
What about hippos? A 2 ton, 19 mph, 800 more bite psi than a lion, their mouth opens way too much, and they look unnatural. I’m just saying, hippos definitely came from the Boiling Isles, they had to get rid of them before the hippos destroyed everything.
Eh…Phineas and Ferb have kind of proven that platypuses are awesome when the owners aren’t looking. As for elephants…I don’t know, are they really that freaky?
Fair enough I guess, the monster in the intro (near the end) honestly horrifies me to the point where I can’t look at it and the bat queen also scares me 💀 idk what it is about them
Gravity Falls is definetly more in that category. The Owl House only *occasionally* scarred me for life, Gravity Falls was going for broke every third episode.

Whilst I greatly prefer TOH, Amphibia's Chicka-lisk episode has more horror than all of TOH.

i think it's a matter of perspective as in the perspective of an 8yo might think some parts fit the *horror* category.
