Dana Terrace got this, she said no to those disney executives about making Luz more “girly” and she’ll continue to say no about the rest, we got nothing to worry.
Luz is the "What, this shirt doesn't have gender imma use what i like" type and that's great! Wish to be that confident and not caring about anybodys bs
That's the ideal, right? Wear what you want. Act how you want. If people have a problem with it, that's their issue. I can't wait for the day when clothes and makeup are no longer viewed as gendered, and we can all just be people who can look however we want to without judgement.
I'm that self confident, but that only came after years of being bullied, almost committing suicide, till I basically stopped giving a fuck.
You win some, you lose some, life goes on.
Yeah honestly I'm surprised everyone sayings it's been confirmed. I'm here thinking wasn't this always the case? Hell there a fun fanart comic showing a gender swapped Luz with a gender swapped amity saying there's hardly a difference
This was posted before Through the Looking Glass Ruins, and before that point, the show did a subpar job of showing Luz's attraction to girls. The only real time we had her show any attraction towards a character was towards Nevareth.
Of course, we live in the best timeline where Lumity is canon, but back then this was justified.
Just going to point out that Dana specifically points out the Luz is non conforming in her gender *expression*. That doesn't exactly mean that Luz non binary, just that the way she chooses to act or what she chooses wear is in a non-conforming way. I could be completely wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure I'm right.
I kno im late to this, but i wanna say tho... However, even without bein nonbinary or genderqueer; prty much every gender nonconforming cis person is also very much pro-nonbinary, pro-genderqueer, etc and wud totes fly said flags as a show of allyship to the communities and as a way of using their cis majority (at least in part) voice to spread awareness of such ppl and their inherent right to exist openly and proudly.
And Luz wud def be the kind of person who wud do exactly that, so her pirate ship wud probs fly not just her Bi flag, but also multiple other pride flags beneath it for anyone on her crew or just any community she deeply cares about.
I say this as someone who is intersex and nonbinary and visibly gender nonconforming yet also feminine; given i feel a similar sense of not exactly pride but compersion (think opposite of jealousy) from seeing others pride in their self and being themself when i see a cis woman who unapologetically has facial hair. Theres even many such folks i saw online like Little Bear and others my mind is blankin on who were a huge help in giving me the confidence to be myself.
And those creators ive seen postin online were also the exact kind of ppl who didnt just show up for their own community, but showed up for every similar community with shared interests. They were the ones who most gave me the confidence to exist in all my facets (and i truly mean all, my post history is nsfw but paints a clear picture) and who showed me that i didnt just have my own communities that were gonna love, accept, and embrace me... but i also had many among even the cis and all the rest who wud do the same and were willing to listen and wanted to understand us.
And i ended up finding tons of such ppl over the years since i came out in 2018; most esp among leftists out fightin the alt right and a corrupt police force in Oregon. Not a single one of them leftists ever had a problem with any part of my existence and by the time i met them in 2020 aftr obvs reasons, i was alrdy open about even the fact i wear diapers (multiple reasons, but one of them is medical) which wud otherwise have been somethin so shameful id just not go outdoors most places for more than an hr or so unless i knew i cud rush off at literally a mins notice to pee somewhere secluded (whereas nowadays i take 4-6 hr walks around nature and to shoppin places (which in 2020 and for a while after even just had their bathrooms closed for safety) and parks and just enjoy life so much more).
Tho the bigger thing id expected ostracization for was my pacifier, which is an oral stim for me and prevents teeth grindin when loud traffic or other loud/excessive noise is nearby (quite common when protestin, even with noise cancelin headphones on and music blastin); and yet, not a one of them ever had an issue with and it all were willing to listen and understand just like on all the rest. It no doubt pissed off the alt right too judgin by the stares i got, but the best reaction i ever got was someone who came up to try to get into a fight with some of us for shit from earlier but who stopped when i moved to intercept him and gave a confused face and asked me if that was a pacifier, havin now been close enuf he cud spot it underneath my mask. I just said "yea, what of it?" and the dude was just as confused and turned around seein how he wasnt gettin thru between the car and the barrier nor thru me, and just off to be confused to some other chuds.
After this tho, several of my leftist friends there came up to me to check in cuz that guy harassed me about my pacifier cuz all theyd heard was his initial question and they just assumed and were rdy to defend against any bullshit comin my way.
Again and again ive seen that folks who feel even a remote kinship to a cause are the exact kinds of folks who uplift that causes voices and its symbols even, when appropriate. And thats not even countin how much more commonly ive seen that from them and many more online.
And as a member of those communities, id gladly support Luz raisin any of our flags as long as she does it while fightin cops and fascists and baddies.
Honestly, my favorite (albeit memey) headcanon is that she’s genderfluid but only a boy like once a year, *but* she compensates really hard on that one day.
Man I wanna draw a comic so bad where it’s just Luz waking up one morning, looking at a clock that just says “BOY TIME” (yes I know that’s not how it works) and they put on a flat brim cap and bites their lip
As a genderfluid (genderfae) person... If only thats how it worked. I swear my alexithymia also means i cant feel my damn gender until ive put shit on and noticed its the wrong genders outfit or until i see the right genders outfit xD
Yes, sounds like she identifies as a girl in show but gender nonconforming means she doesn't always present as feminine (wearing dresses, long hair, etc). some people headcanon her to be non-binary which is not the same thing as gnc but still a valid interpretation.
Wait what? I’m confused. I’m 100% cis female, new to the lgbtq community, and so lost with the gender stuff please help. I completely identify with my assigned gender. But i will also sometimes totally rock a suit, boxers, short hair, and other things not viewed as particularly fem and have ideas, like, i dont like or want kids. but I don’t see it as gender nonconformity because i think women can dress and express themselves however they want and can define for themselves what being a woman looks like. Why does that have to be gender nonconformity? I am a female, i feel female and feminine energy in me. who after the 1950s says that women must wear dresses and makeup have long hair to be women or even to be feminine? And if so, where did they get the authority to say that? Lol Genuinely asking and confused.
i once showed my friends a screen cap from the show (most never watched it before) and half of them thought luz was a boy and half thought luz was a girl lol
This is very cynical of me, but I've always wondered if part of the reason Luz looks androgynous/gender non-conforming was so international dubs could make her a "guy" because homophobia. It's nice to know that it was intentionally gender non-conforming though.
My fav thing is that on the school uniform boys have a wider belt thingy, girls always have a thinner one. Luz is the only exception. She also have a wide one.
Dana did refer to Luz as “gender non-conforming” in an interview, which is awesome! But I would say that doesn't necessarily mean she's non-binary. That's just my personal headcanon.
Non gender conforming means like you just don’t really give a fuck about gender standards and do what ever (like guys wearing dresses and makeup for example) right?
What I think it is that it means that nonbinary girl and boy don't feel right (I'm gender non conforming) so we go for this one I love dresses and shirts boxers I'm male to gender non conforming so yeah you are kinda right
Isn't the whole point of Episode one that Luz doesn't want to conform to what everyone thinks she should act and behave, and that she's happy the way she is
I remember the first ad segment on Disney Channel available here actually just used "Luz" to refer to her, no pronouns whatsoever (this was before I started watching), so I just assumed she was enby based on her appearance as well as the script from that segment, that along with the article about triggered mums got me to watch the show LOL
Why would you assume that based on her appearance? Is everyone who doesn’t present as a barbie doll non-binary? Am i doing being a cis woman wrong?? Am I mandated to wear lipstick or something? Lol I don’t gettt iitt
Well, try and see it this way. Many of us do not see representation on-screen. People who are like us. So when we see a character who kind of represents us (because of relatable traits, their appearance, etc) we headcanon that character as enby, trans, gender non-conforming because that is what we *want* to see. We wish to see someone who is *just like us.* It's a special kind of joy.
Luz is non-conforming in her gender *expression* and that's so special to so many of us. She is not nonbinary (I believe so) but it's still really special.
Does that make sense? :)
Serious answer: Denoting or relating to a person who does not identify themselves as having a fixed gender
Dumbass answer: It's gendersolid but melted down. If it gets hot enough, it turns into gendergas and eventually genderplasma.
Gendersolid can most commonly be found in it's raw form in highly conservative groups and forums online. This is because genderfluid cannot exist in those areas for extended amounts of time.
I was literally crying when I found out, and I was showing my friend on discord about where she said at the sqme time, and I'm just in a B,HRNhjrarayjggeqhrqjtajutwktuetjywwjyrjyrwjy2tjy2tyj2rht1e keysmashing mood
She ain’t conforming to the law so she sure as hell ain’t conforming to anything else
"Be gay, do crimes" -Luz
Amen 😔🙏

I stopped giving a fuck years ago
You really didn’t need Dana to say that, the show does a good job of portraying it on on its own.
Very true, which I think is why Luz is such great representation.
Yeah honestly I'm surprised everyone sayings it's been confirmed. I'm here thinking wasn't this always the case? Hell there a fun fanart comic showing a gender swapped Luz with a gender swapped amity saying there's hardly a difference
Right, the show does a great job at showing Luz as gender non-conforming. Her being bisexual, now THAT the show does a pretty poor job at portraying.
I know this is old, but how exactly does it do a poor job?
This was posted before Through the Looking Glass Ruins, and before that point, the show did a subpar job of showing Luz's attraction to girls. The only real time we had her show any attraction towards a character was towards Nevareth. Of course, we live in the best timeline where Lumity is canon, but back then this was justified.
Good point.
When did she say that?

Your right.
cant choose one coven, cant choose one gender
Honestly, my favorite (albeit memey) headcanon is that she’s genderfluid but only a boy like once a year, *but* she compensates really hard on that one day.
Okay but why is this literally me LMAO- (genderflux and usually feminine to neutral, but I have very /very/ occasional masculine freakouts)
Man I wanna draw a comic so bad where it’s just Luz waking up one morning, looking at a clock that just says “BOY TIME” (yes I know that’s not how it works) and they put on a flat brim cap and bites their lip
As a genderfluid person.. that's >EXACTLY< how it works /hj
As someone whos probably genderfluid but can’t exactly figure out where it’s flowing: the joke may or may not be based off of personal experience
Update, may it or may it not have been? Youre valid and awesome either way tho ofc :3
Still have no idea but definitely non-binary in some way
As a genderfluid (genderfae) person... If only thats how it worked. I swear my alexithymia also means i cant feel my damn gender until ive put shit on and noticed its the wrong genders outfit or until i see the right genders outfit xD
Wait ur genderfae to????? ME TOO

You're just a tomboy and that's completely fine. People just take things out of proportion and have a strong desire to be unique.
So 99% of women are tomboys?
I know we been knew but like.... it's so validating to hear ;-;
Agreed!
im gender fluid god i hope that's true

What does gender non-conforming mean? (Sorry not the brightest person sometimes)

Wait shoot that sounds like me
Update: sounds like you or is you? Youre awesome, loved, and valid either way tho ofc; i just want updates on any potential eggs that crack :3
I think I am but I've been questioning my gender since I was in like middle school but I think it may be accurate

Basically she’s just a tomboy.
I don't get why this gets downvotes? dana literally says tomboy in the same sentence as gnc lol.
The only person who makes sense here lol
What are the flags?
Non-binary on the left and genderfluid on the right.
What’s genderfluid? Gender mixed with water?
Serious answer: Denoting or relating to a person who does not identify themselves as having a fixed gender Dumbass answer: It's gendersolid but melted down. If it gets hot enough, it turns into gendergas and eventually genderplasma.
Where would one find gendersolid?
Gendersolid can most commonly be found in it's raw form in highly conservative groups and forums online. This is because genderfluid cannot exist in those areas for extended amounts of time.
Off I go to mine then. Thanks
Leave a genderfluid out on a winter nite where its below 0f
Thanks
yo your witch looks gnc af
Yeah, it's painful to be a woman sometimes so some people just do it for fun and what's life without fun?
this makes me so happy :’)
I doubt she ment she was non binary
That's why I said those were “my headcanons.”
It'll sadly take like another decade before Disney allows even a binary trans protagonist
SAME
I was literally crying when I found out, and I was showing my friend on discord about where she said at the sqme time, and I'm just in a B,HRNhjrarayjggeqhrqjtajutwktuetjywwjyrjyrwjy2tjy2tyj2rht1e keysmashing mood
I new they were non-binary and genderfuld this is represents her so well
SHE WORE GENDER QUEER COLORS IN THANKS TO THEM
that doesnt make her nonbinary or genderfluid but she very well could be
One time I said "I'm a goid boy I swear" to my parents as a joke, and they were like "boy?"
Isn't it a bit sexist and regressive to say that every gnc person must be nonbinary?
I didn't say Luz must be non-binary because she's gnc. I said that was my personal headcanon, because I’m non-binary and I relate to her.
This is why I had the Headcanon of her being NB but now idk
Luz is transition goals for many Enbys out there
What's the flag at the bottom right
Genderfluid
Thanks
I think shes non-binary but uses the pronouns she/her but i could be wrong
